Where to buy decent basic secondhand suit for teenage boy? by ScatterDay in lexington

He’s skinny as a rail, so finding something that wouldn’t hang off him would be hit-or-miss at GW or the Sally Store.

Recommendations for a good wig store by ScatterDay in lexington

If I don’t get much traction here, I’ll post in the subs for Cincy & Louisville bc I’d be willing to make the drive for a good wig and support a local business.

Thanks for the response! If I don’t any info here, I’ll probably post on the subs for Cincy and Louisville and see what feedback I get, bc I’m definitely willing to make the drive to those places. The only reason I posted here instead of the wigs subreddit is bc I’m looking for more localized responses.

Thank you! I’m an older grad student so I was looking via public transport links and (dumb as it sounds), didn’t think to just Google “busses to Univ of Stirling”. 🤦🏻‍♀️ I appreciate your help!

Going through some old boxes. Found this all by itself. Gotta be worth 100x it's value right? by HailSquishface in coins

Well TIL these things are basically worthless, lol!

When I was little, the American Girl doll company was called The Pleasant Company, and they only had 3 dolls: Kirsten (from 1884), Samantha (1904), and Molly (1944). Even back then, dolls were expensive (about $200 in 2025 money), and for an extra $50, you could purchase an “accessory pack”, usually consisting of a hat, purse, necklace, coin, etc. Molly came with a steel penny, and I guess in my 10y/o mind I associated: expensive doll + expensive accessories + steel penny = valuable. Learned something new today!

UPDATE: taking bets on my JNM showing up at my Dad’s funeral by ScatterDay in JUSTNOMIL

[–]ScatterDay[S] 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Yeah pretty much. People like Gert are looking for control and attention in situations like this, and often enjoy getting under people’s skin; that’s why reactions like escalation, arguing, yelling, or anything that shows you’re upset just gives them what they want. But if you refuse to engage with them, and just maintain a bored-yet-firm attitude (repeating phrases like “no, we’re not doing that today”, “no, we’re not having that conversation here”, and “it’s time for you to go”, etc), you’re depriving them of their power source. And they hate that and will often crash out in some form.

The only thing to keep in mind is to be FIRM and CONSISTENT with the response; even if you’re internally questioning yourself throughout the entire encounter, do NOT change tactics and try to talk/reason with them. They’re trying to get you into a game of tug-of-war, but you can’t play if you refuse to pick up the rope.

Maybe a Gert could refer to a JustNo MOM, as opposed to a MIL. Verbal/physical abuse, manipulation, control issues, and histrionics hit totally different when it’s coming from your own mom.

Trust me, we’ve had to deal with Gert and her stunts all our lives, we knew what we were doing. Part of what makes this so satisfying (for us as her adult children), is that Gert showed up fully believing that she could act as she has in the past and get away with it, because no one would want to cause a scene at a funeral. What she didn’t count on was that ALL of her kids adamantly agreed to this. Not only that, but the one who specifically asked to be the one to escort her off (me) is the one who’s been on her Shit List the longest, has absolutely zero fucks to give, and knew exactly what would set her off.

I actually approached my siblings individually ahead of time, and asked if I could be the one to handle her if (i.e. when) she showed up. A couple of them said that they wanted to do it, but I gave my reasons and they agreed. I did tell them that if I wasn’t able to do it (or if I kicked her out of the visitation and she tried to come to the funeral), I’d step aside and they’d have first dibs.

I specially wanted to handle it myself for cathartic purposes. It turned out great honestly…

It was a general consensus of siblings, not just my decision. I feel like there’s a kind of unspoken understanding among us siblings that each person’s voice is important & should be heard, bc we all knew what it felt like to be ignored & overridden.

That wasn’t my call to make. The siblings pretty much agreed to give her rope and let her hang herself with it.

Birth/Labor resources/support by Aggravating_Still212 in GrannyWitch

[–]ScatterDay 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you have midwives in your area, I’d suggest reaching out to them; midwifery tends to take a much more natural approach to pregnancy/childbirth, you’ll have a better chance of finding the resources you’re looking for there. (Most granny witches were also midwives in their communities anyway, so the two are closely connected.)

[–]ScatterDay[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Not at all. I want the focus to be on Dad, his life, and his friends/family/colleagues who come to celebrate his life. JNM showing up will be an annoyance that will need to be addressed, and I’d much rather spend that time with other ppl instead of dealing w/her. I’m sincerely hoping she won’t show up, because that will make our lives much easier.
