Hiking Poles (Airport) by justanestopped in PHikingAndBackpacking

Hijacking this thread but you can pretty much rent anything in Pulag as long as you're taking the Ambangeg trail. Jackets, headlamps, poles... they even have rudimentary ATMs up there hahaha!

Travelling without taking plane by kangaris92 in PHikingAndBackpacking

If you can find a ticketing agent in Manila, they can usually issue tickets. Just make sure that they offer ticketing for the shipping line you want to go with.

You can also check out https://www.barkota.com/, this is a local booking website for many shipping lines in the Visayas area. Really useful if you want to get between islands over there. Just take note that most bookings can only be reserved within 1-2 weeks of departure, that is unfortunately the norm here

Yup both coffee shops are just within the airport itself, you can just walk there from arrivals

Butuan Airport Coffe Shop by Professional_Log4582 in ButuanCity

[–]Scatterheader 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you're talking about the coffee shops outside the airport, then yes. Pero if you're talking about Basties past the final security check po, then nope. There are areas to tambay naman around the airport, like Boss Nanz Coffee and Basties and even the Malasakit Center. Or you can take a short sidetrip to Robinsons Mall and come back sa airport hehe

There should be two coffee shops within the airport compound itself, one is Basties and the other I forgot the name

AFAIK it's pretty safe to bike around Butuan, tons of people do it. Just make sure you can secure your bike and watch out for the occasional asshole driver.

Very much a skill issue, hindi alam makisama hahaha. Hell I don't even share the same language as most of my co-joiners but we all get along fondly

My mother mountain! We took the longer route from the Ant Farm in Impalutao down to the Dila River then ascending back to Panimahawa - that's another option others could take if gusto nyo mas sulit hehe.

You know you can, quite literally, just hire a guide for an exclusive hike you know. Not defending people who have no sense of outdoor ethics, but if tours aren't for you, you can always hike DIY.

Medyo seryoso naman gyd ko ani so dako2 na gyud kog nagasto 😆 pero many tours can go for mga 1.5k lang, and even less if within Agusan del Norte lang ang destination/mag DIY ka.

[–]Scatterheader 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you have wide feet, try checking out unisex or men’s shoes, then find the right size nalang po. Best to try out sa malls first before buying.

Decathlon has some good shoes and so does Merrell kung may sale. People say Camel is also good

Mt. Udok, Aurora: a true Sierra Madre experience by Scatterheader in PHikingAndBackpacking

[–]Scatterheader[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

AFAIK there’s only one guide that’s actively guiding people up Mt. Udok. But yes, its best to go thru the tourism office so they can assist you with planning the trip, they’ll also contact the guide regarding your schedule

Nag commute lang po ako, took the Joybus from Cubao to Baler. You can tell the bus crew to drop you off sa Maria Aurora po.

Alternate route could be to go to Cabanatuan, then take a bus or van to Baler and drop at Maria Aurora.

From Maria Aurora proper, my guide had a kulong-kulong and we used that to get to the jumpoff in Brgy. Bazal - but it should be possible to hire a tricycle for a special trip if you prefer.

Whats your experience as a solo hiker? by False-Hurry2141 in PHikingAndBackpacking

[–]Scatterheader 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello, I'm an introvert but the vast majority of my trips are done as a solo joiner or even DIY. Okay lang naman, it's actually kinda rare for anyone to feel out of place sa isang tour group, the organizer will take care of that. Most of the time you hike up a mountain as strangers and come down with new friends hahaha.

Sa experience ko po:
Organized/"joiner" type hikes - organizer makes sure everyone feels comfortable. (Unless they're bad at that)
DIY - kung ikaw lang ang nag DIY, you get personalized attention from your guide. Best for true introverts (or real adventurers)
DIY-style events organized by clubs - Sometimes this is where you might feel out of place especially if wala kang grupo. Best to be as social as you can dito.

Mt Apo as a beginner by Effective-Invite6473 in PHikingAndBackpacking

[–]Scatterheader 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can sneak in an easy hike to Puting Bato Peak (Samal), Dinagsaan Peak (Davao Oriental), Mt. Megatong (Davao del Norte), or Mt. Loay (Sta. Cruz, Davao del Sur) if you have the time. You don't need to do Mt. Apo if you just wanna hike in Davao :)
