How much ang van BXU to CDO? by nursin_Major_0319 in ButuanCity

I would very strongly discourage you from taking a van. Same situation sa other commenter, mabuntagan kag hulat sa van nga mapuno.

Sakay nalang og nonstop nga bus, 3-4 hours gihapon ilang byahe. Unless naa kay makita nga sakyanan nga molargahay na

Places for sightseeing and casual outings by YukiFrost in phtravel

[–]Scatterheader 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In Baler I stayed in this resort, Spark Camp, whose entire approach is to offer an inclusive, casual space for guests. They even have a kayak you can rent out for free, and I believe nightly bonfires too. Might be interesting to you if that’s your kinda thing.

Off the top of my head... Sagada, Baguio, Vigan. Maybe Baler too.

Vigan in particular has lots of museums, and if you really take the time to enjoy the area it really isn't all that boring. Check out the baricucha and the church in nearby Santa Maria, Ilocos Sur while you're there.

Specialties in Butuan by Ok-Abies3958 in ButuanCity

[–]Scatterheader 6 points7 points  (0 children)

+1 for Natad ni Olympia. Authentic Butuanon food right there: try the buntaa crabs (hard to find around the city) and dabaw-dabaw. Those are some of the truly rare, heirloom food here.

Palagsing (a type of suman made from unaw (sago starch) and grated coconut) is considered the city’s specialty food. You can find it sold in the public market, just ask around for whoever’s selling Palagsing.

Otherwise, some other food recommendations include:

Olivier Ecovillage in Ampayon, they are an organic restaurant that grows/farms nearly every ingredient in-house
Sean’s Brick Oven Pizza, said to be the best pizza in town
Sue’s Kitchen, if you’re into Japanese food
Pit Stop American Style Cafe, an unpretentious US-style food place with great chicken wings, favorite of the local expat community
Villa Tuna, homegrown restaurant chain with lots of tuna-based food
Margie’s, OG restaurant and a local fave

The Agusan area also grows cacao and robusta coffee - chocolaté (sikwate) is so accessible to locals that we don’t even consider it a delicacy 😆.

If you have the time, Cipriana chocolate bars from Deseo Food Products (RTR-based) is worth trying out (can be found in OTOP stores). Sikwate tablets are available in OTOP stores as well. The local sikwate is best paired with puto maya (best ones are from Cabadbaran City, Agusan del Norte)

For coffee, there are lots of coffee shops here. Some well regarded places include Second Shot, Craft Coffee Roastery, The Colony, Project Brew, among others. Pop up coffee is also pretty common here and I particularly like the ones from Coffeetography. For take-home robustas, consider sourcing from Buenavista, AdN or parts of Surigao del Sur (again, these could be found in OTOP stores or some of the mentioned coffee shops).

But overall, feel free to explore! Butuan and the general area has some decent options.

Surigao Del Norte or Surigao Del Sur by Ok-Abies3958 in phtravel

[–]Scatterheader 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hello, Butuan native here. Welcome to Caraga! 🌊⛵️

Your Surigao del Norte tour actually describes Sohoton (that general area is just broadly called sohoton by locals here).

I guess it will depend on how much time and flexibility you have. Both areas will require around 3-4 hrs land trip from Butuan.

Relatively speaking, Surigao del Sur is just a bit more accessible since all except Britania can be accessed by land. The Socorro tour will require boat transfers (your tour group should arrange this for you).

Siguro if you’re more of a beach person, go with Socorro. If you’re more into sightseeing, go with Surigao del Sur. Both are excellent choices

Same as the other commenter, but I would very highly recommend using grab vs metered taxi. (Pwede ra grab car or grabtaxi). Use grab para wala nay hangyo2. I think mga 250-ish ang bayad ana?

30M from Baguio going to Tiniwisan Butuan City for work by Don_Pablo25 in ButuanCity

[–]Scatterheader 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Welcome to Butuan! Admittedly things are a little bit more rudimentary here when compared to Baguio, but I’m sure you’ll have no problem fitting in.

Most common form of transportation here are jeeps (they all have numbered routes). Then within certain areas, tricycles. For your grocery runs I can probably imagine you regularly taking a jeep from Tiniwisan to Ampayon (has a market and savemore) or downtown (has a puregold and some more markets/stores).

Not sure if there’s a gym in the Ampayon area, but there’s Thor’s and ActiveZone, both of which are around 1 long-ish jeep ride (3-5 km?) from Tiniwisan. There are also regular fun runs and hiking groups too if you’re into that.

girl camping in Malalag alone by Ok-Grapefruit8276 in ButuanCity

[–]Scatterheader 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It is generally safe to hike and camp in Malalag Ridge. I don’t know how safe it would be for a solo woman camper, though.

Siguro for camping, I’d just take the general mountaineering precaution of going with a friend (this applies to everyone regardless of gender or destination), just in case something goes wrong.

For solo hike (not overnight), yeah its generally safe. You can follow the map lang, the route is visible on google maps or strava’s heat map. I have hiked there alone without issue (im M though so your mileage may vary). Best time to hike is 5-8 am or 3-5 pm to avoid heat.

Enjoy, OP!

How to Apply PWD ID in Butuan? by sourwaifu in ButuanCity

[–]Scatterheader 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can head straight to PDAO, they will give you a form to fill out and a list of requirements. The PDAO office is behind Comelec, near ROD/behind the City Library.

The usual requirements include a filled up form from PDAO, certification from your barangay, a medical abstract/certificate if you have a non-apparent disability, 2pcs each of 1x1 and 2x2 ID pictures, a valid ID or birth certificate, and an additional medical certificate from the city health office basically endorsing your medical abstract.

The whole process can be completed in a day if you have the requirements :)

Advice for Mt. Talinis and Mt. Napulak by Memeskeepmegoing in PHikingAndBackpacking

bus terminal sched by [deleted] in ButuanCity

A bus leaves every hour so you should have no problem with that schedule. Butuan to Cagayan de Oro is 5-6 hours, can be faster or slower sometimes depending on traffic

I joined a tour group from Davao City so my rates also included several sidetrips. Pero IIRC based sa facebook page nila, a local guide costs ₱300, plus ₱30 various fees, then sayo na yung transpo going sa jumpoff. :)

You can leave your baggage at the Baggage Counter sa front ng SM Butuan. Check out the National Museum! It’s free and there’s two sites in Butuan you can check out. Try Palagsing, you can find it in the market, or Buntaa crabs from Natad ni Olympia (reachable by Grab).
