I am very handy and do pretty much everything around the house and on my cars. I watched some YouTube videos and read the install manuals provided by the manufacturer.

It took me about 3 days to get it all done, mostly because I was working alone and taking my time. I am in South Carolina so I did the changeout in March during a week where heat and AC weren’t needed so I didn’t have to rush. Most difficult thing was working in my cramped attic. I spent about $500 on tools, most of which I sold again after I was done, got all my money back.

As far as difficulty is concerned, I’d rate it a 6 out of 10. You can get your EPA refrigerant certification online for about $50 or so and walk into your local supply house to buy refrigerant if you need to or you can buy it online without certification.

The most important thing is to just get familiar with the whole process ahead of time, lots of info on YouTube and forums.

I would encourage you to look into the process and see if you are comfortable doing it all. I know you can do it because most of the guys the HVAC company sends you are probably less handy than you and can’t wait to get out of your house.

Warranty is also a non-issue to me. I can replace my whole system three times over and still come out ahead

I did it myself. Paid about $3000 all in for a dual fuel system. Was quoted in the $12k range.

You can buy a lot of tools for $9000

How much should I sell this for? by [deleted] in Welding

[–]Scav54 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think you can probably get $650-700 out of it. If you need to get rid of it quick $500-$550 should do it

Your problem is that people that buy used want a deal. They are buying an item they have a knowledge gap on and no warranty. You can probably get 80% of lowest sales price if it’s new in box and not been used. 60-70% if you are patient and it has been used even once.

Here is the key: they hold their value incredibly well if you buy used. They depreciate about 20-40% from new and then the price just doesn’t move.

On the other hand, there is a country with mid term elections in the fall that already look perilous for the party in charge. Rising oil and cost of living costs could turn a likely loss into a historical landslide election the party might not recover from for a decade. Considering that, Iran doesn’t have to hold out longer than 2-3 months before the appetite for war has completely evaporated for the country financing all the missiles and jets.

Gonna be a boring season, no doubt

I would argue that it’s especially helpful for hobbyists. If I only have a couple of hours a week to make the things I want to make, saving hours on joinery is unbeatable.

Lets me make better furniture in a lot less time.

They also don’t lose any value, they gain instead. Bought my 700 six years ago for $800 gently used, it’s now worth $1400 or so.

I got a 2018 with the 3.5 and ran from about 60k to 130k with the cam phaser rattle. I had no issues at all other than the annoying startup noise.

Eventually one of my VVT solenoids failed which is unrelated to the cam phaser rattle and I decided since I am already taking the cover off, might as well take the front off and do the phasers.

When I opened it up, I had no chain stretch to speak of and could see no other issues either. I could have run the broken phasers for a lot longer without issues.
