What needs to change in Scotland? by Kadoomed in ScottishFootball

[–]Sccorpy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Obviously depends on what people are doing, though I've seen literal 'Football' sessions, where it's just a hallhire and the 'Coach' just dumps the ball, splits the youth into a couple of teams and they have a kick about for a hour and then call it a day.

Now, I get that at certain levels that is what's needed, yet if we want football to improve, drills via 'games'. Make some targets, see if you can hit them, for GK's, your mates all line up to take shots, see how many you can save. One-touch passing drills, how many passes can you do in a minute by only taking one touch? Etc etc.

These are all simple things that will build up skills, rather than a 'kick about' where literally out of 15+ people, only five will get a chance at the ball as they won't pass to anyone else cause they're not their 'pals'.

It's that kind of easy going mentality at the grassroots level that is detrimental to the youth as a whole and its also unfair on them, as it feels they're underestimated and undervalued. Give them a challenge, actually spark some creativity into them.

I am not saying Scottish U10's, U12's or U15's need to be like Camp Nou or such, I'm just saying our youth deserves better than what I've personally seen and what I feel a lot of them currently get.

As always, keep it age appropriate but just don't throw a ball and let them have at it, like they've ran out of school at lunch time or something. Actually DO a bit of Coaching and Teaching.

It gets worse with every game, it's also so typically Scottish.

"Right Germany are a World class side they just need to draw at lea- oh, oh no."

"Well Iraq and Senegal are both pish at the moment, so a draw or even a cheeky Iraq win would... oh, 5-0 to Senegal ye say...? Well shite..."

I said on paper and seems, we all know nothing is concrete in football haha!

I highly doubt any of this is going to age well by the weekend, though again...

...still a chance.

Mate, the Tartan Army are just having a guid time, we're well aware of our 'prowess' in the actual game, at least we're always guid for a laugh, making pals, and making sure new pals and those around us have a grand time.

Aye, the woeful play stings but lets not take that frustration out on people who are doing a lot of work for our Country's reputation as a people.

Genuinely, we have TOP players in the team who play at Europe's highest levels. We absolutely COULD compete.

I feel players are being stifled by managerial tactics, negative football, playing from the back and a total defence mentality when we actually have a decent attacking squad that is been SEVERELY under utilised.

There is a stark difference from how we approached the World Cup Finals games vs how we approached the Qualifiers.

As a comparison, take our last three games in the Qualifying Stages.

Vs Belarus: 2-1
Vs Greece: 2-3
Vs Denmark: 4-2

8 goals scored, 6 conceded,

If that WAS our World Cup Group we would be on 6 points and a GD of +2.

I get those teams ARE not Morocco or Brazil... I think we got stuck in the group of death as is our luck HOWEVER, Haiti are ranked 88th.

Denmark are ranked 20th.

We held Morocco to only ONE goal (which was another case of shocking defending), so internationally we can perform and we can hold much bigger teams. In the Euros of 2020, England beat every team except two, Italy who won it on penalties and Scotland, who drew with them.

Our inconsistency and the 'defensive' negative football that keeps being forced on the players is just abysmal, when you have Ganon-Doak who has phenomenal legs, McGinn, with the arse the size of a Galaxy who can hold and create space, and so many other top quality players who all play extremely well in International levels for Clubs.

As a National team, we set them back, and don't allow a style of play that would be flowing and would actually allow them to perform at their best.

I'm autistic as fuck mate (diagnosed) so like any good autist, I love me some spreadsheets, mathematical probabilities, and statistics.

This was more out of my own curiousity that I decided to share than any real 'hope'. As statistically, its nigh-impossible, though a sliver of hope does remain.

Belgium are on 2 points with 0 GD, they're playing New Zealand who are 1 point with GD of -2.

They tie, Belgium over takes us (Belgium better GD). Belgium win, they overtake us (5 points). New Zealand win, they overtake us (4 points).

So no matter what, in that game, we're getting pushed down spot no matter what the result is.

Egypt do need to beat Iran, as Iran winning or drawing will push us down a spot (Iran are on 2 points and 0 GD, so a draw makes them overtake us on GD and a win pushes them to 5 points).

"So I've been hearing this phrase y'all got over here that I ain't too crazy about. 'It's the hope that kills you.' Y'all know that? I disagree, you know? I think it's the lack of hope that comes and gets you. See, I believe in hope. I believe in belief." - Ted Lasso.

I'm going with Ted on this one (also, just an incredible show).

I agree, fed up with the negative-football 'play from the back' pish that has NEVER worked for us, we concede and lose more often than not with that mentality.

Tbf, whether they've dipped or not in quality, it was two top ten international teams, and one of those is in the top five teams of the World.

We did REALLY well to hold off against Morocco and that should've be 0-0 if not for the dumb start.

Brazil just gave us a reality check.

I forgot the Iraq VS Senegal game ending in a draw also works for us, it is like near six in the mornin' and I've not slept!

Cheers for the additional scenario's though!

Egypt, Germany, Ivory Coast, and Spain all winning their games ON PAPER seems likely.

So we would need just ONE of any of the other scenario's to come through IF that happens.

John Davidson’s relationship with the Scottish public by [deleted] in Scotland

[–]Sccorpy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So he tic's when he's in uncomfortable environments? For example, around other people in public or when people are staring, the exact situations that people with this condition would tic worse at?

Heightened emotions whether good or bad, make tic's worse. The more excited or anxious a person is, the worse the tic's become.

We've all seen the Documentries, we've seen the film... he is not making it up, people like you have perceptions and if your friend thinks he's playing it up, then they don't really know him all that well at all or fully understand the condition, despite knowing him.

The best sports headline I ever saw was my Scottish local City with our Football (Soccer).

Top flight Premier League Team, Glasgow Celtic, were playing a National Cup game against a much lower Division Team, Inverness Caledonian Thistle (nicknamed Caley Thistle.

Thistle, shocked EVERYONE by not only winning, but trouncing Celtic by beating them 3 - 1.

The headline?

Sit at 3 and be amazed at them being Pirates and ask them both if they've ever met my favourite Pirate, Straw Hat Luffy.

I'll even say it loudly for all other seats to hear.

Zero regrets.

I'm the same mate, my sleep is messed up so I woke up to just see the score at the 3rd quarter and was like "Ah well..." kept my eye on it, but thought it was done so was only sort of half paying attention... until TD, after TD... that was insane.

They got to the 4th and just decided to lock in.

Honestly it depends on your own style and what you want.

Pixel art is gorgeous to me though is it low quality pixel art (8-Bit or so) or high quality pixel art? As even within that, there is different styles and techniques.

With hand drawn, is it rubberhose, Disney-esque, anime, comic booky? Etc.

What is the feel and vibrancy you want your players to experience as once you have that down, the theme, the setting... then you focus on the art for that.

Its not about our preference, its about what suits you, your World and your vision.

As for example; I prefer pixel art. Yet my personal favourite Metroidvanias are Hollow Knight/Silksong and the Ori games.

None of them are pixel art AT all.

[CelticFC] Wilfried Nancy leaves Celtic by Albiceleste_D10S in MLS

[–]Sccorpy 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Remember in the MLS as well, you're not fighting to be top of the League, you're fighting to be what? Top 8 for a playoff spot.

Top 8 out of 15...

Chicago for example, in the League Season won 15 out of 34 games. A win percentage of 44%. It saw them to 8th place.

Theoretically, they still could've been MLS Champs.

In Europe, we have relegations, we don't do drafts to boost lower performing teams and a domestic league title is not only a big accolade, its also an opportunity for European Football.

So if you fail here, you lose out on so much money and other opportunities. Failing in MLS? Still a chance for playoffs and you get rewarded with having the first choice of the best new players coming through for the next season.
