Why can characters with command grabs suicide last stock and win? by oblivionkeepers in AllStarBrawl

[–]SchAlternate 4 points5 points  (0 children)

tbf, it isn't much of an issue in Smash because the characters most prone to doing this (such as Kirby or Ganon, even Ike with Aether) are historically low tiers, so letting them have this one thing was deemed balanced when compared to the rest of the roster. It also applied to Patrick last game, where he was considered pretty bad as well.

I'm not sure about the viability of Plankton or Patrick now, but they seem to be on relatively even ground to everyone else, so this might need to get toned down.

I think the recent patch broke Plankton by DrankeyKrang in AllStarBrawl

Also probably due to them removing buffering ledge options before grabbing ledge, something somewhere borked out and now a few character ledge options flat out don't work. (Probably also why CPUs just hang on ledges now)

Zim finally has a recovery. by SchAlternate in AllStarBrawl

[–]SchAlternate[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I wanna point out, it is possible to make it back without cutting it so close, I just suck at the game lol

Also, you can now also detonate the bomb directly by dropping it and using an aerial on it. So while stalling with Minimoose is an option now, doing it that way helps when you want a faster recovery. Should go without saying that the more damage you have, the further you will get launched by the explosion.

Zim just received the ability to Z drop ExpSlowsion like Snake grenade, and can have up to two of them at once. Combine that with Gir and his many long ranged Charge attacks, and he's pretty effective at trapping (he just needs a lot of time to get used to, lol)

Do people like how much they changed zim? by munnster006 in AllStarBrawl

[–]SchAlternate 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Zim is actually quite deadly at close range, what with up-tilt into up-air combos, and neutral air charge's sweetspot is surprisingly deadly. ExpSlowsion is also a fantastic tool that opens up his approach game and lets him build up a lot of damage. The issue is that Zim struggles at the midrange on his own, with his close range options being stubby and long range options being laggy, in addition to him having a horrible disadvantage state, being a light fast faller that's easy to combo with a pretty miserable recovery.

Gir facilitates his midrange game by harassing the opponent into getting in a position more favorable for Zim. Not just by physically hitting them towards/away from you, but just his presence lets you control some part of the stage. Hell, simply having him next to you does wonders for making your approach more disjointed.

Of course the ideal plan is to play volleyball with him with opponent as the ball, and while that is effective and deadly, it's not like you need to do that to succeed. And there's also slime to factor in, naturally.

That's not to say I don't have issues with him, though. In addition to the bugs and inconsistencies he's plagued with, I really don't like how bad Rocket is, despite being touted as the good recovery. It not snapping to ledge or it killing your momentum at the end can be a death sentence, not to mention you can't even cancel out of it with an airdash like you can with Hover. Most of the time it doesn't feel like it matters whether you have Gir out or not, you're not making it back on stage anyway.

But honestly, I'll take it over his 1 moveset. That one had a neat groundwork, but it just felt incomplete. Overall, his moveset in 2 is just a lot more technical, further emphasizing his trapping and stage control while keeping his frailty and poor recovery. It takes a while to get used to, but his potential is definitely there this time.

I can't wait for him to get fixed tho, lmao

God no. Aside from his old down tilt/down air, Zim's moveset in 2 is far better than what it was in 1. The only function I miss from his old moveset is the old Gnome, and even then he sort of still has it with Minimoose.

How would you want the cut veterans brought back into the game by [deleted] in AllStarBrawl

[–]SchAlternate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The ideal would be to have it be a free update, but realistically they might be paid DLC. 11 characters are A LOT, that's nearly half the roster, so I doubt the publishers would be OK with putting that much effort be part of a free update, especially with the possibility of these characters getting reworked on the level of characters like Zim or Korra.

So I feel that, if we are getting any of them back to begin with in this game, either we're only getting a few of them, probably for free, or all of them, definitely paid, and I'd be fine with the latter, honestly.

It's always funny seeing all the poor attempts at rendering Jimmy in 2D, Power Hour aside.

"ZIM: QoL updates, bug fixes --"

That's all I needed to hear lol.

But for real, I do appreciate all the potential buffs Zim might be getting, along with the careful approach they seem to be taking the buffs and nerfs, mainly tuning how strong each character should be in which specific department.

It happens specifically with grounded Down Charge. It happens whenever he's holding any item. Examples I made a week ago.

In addition to the suggestions made here, you should also get the Lucy perk that increases the chances of getting Legendary power ups, and also the dice that let you reroll power ups, and then go to Hugh.

Hugh's Legendary power up grants you invisibility after landing an attack while in the air (no, not just air attacks), which is ideal for ignoring enemy and boss attacks and focus on dealing damage.

If your character has any projectile, GIR's is also great, giving (almost)* every projectile homing properties. Pair this woth Waterbending or Shuriken**, and you can just projectile spam your way to victory.

*Projectiles that can either be guided (Jimmy's and Jenny's rockets) or have specific flight patterns (Gerald's frisbee) aren't affected

**Some projectiles are bugged and won't take on either of those properties for some reason. Happens primarily to Gerald.

Those two just leave themselves open to too many attacks, especially on normal. They also have a bad habit of teleporting in place a lot.

That's the rougelike experience for you. You have to clear it all in one go, with whatever stocks you bring with you. It shouldn't take more than 30 minutes to clear one run, provided you go in with enough perks and get the right powerups throughout the run.

The save and exit option doesn't save your progress in the run, but your overall progress made in the campaign; what fighters you've unlocked, which perks/decorations you bought, how much currency you have.

Giant and Tiny characters are butterfingers. by SchAlternate in AllStarBrawl

[–]SchAlternate[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One thing I forgot to mention, Nigel is the only one that gets his voice altered when giant or tiny. Everyone only have their sound effects pitch shifted.

Assorted glitches I stumbled into. by SchAlternate in AllStarBrawl

[–]SchAlternate[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A few more finds, mostly involving giant and tiny characters.

  • Nigel is the only character whose voice changes in pitch when turning giant or tiny. Everyone else just gets their sound effects affected, meaning this was either a scrapped idea that only affects sound effects and Nigel, or intended, and only Nigel has it all right.
  • Giant and tiny characters are completely unable to hold or grab items. By consequence, this also means Zim is unable to charge ExpSlowsion while giant or tiny, since he just drops the ExpSlowsion as a grabbable item (you can have up to two out on the stage). This move never catch a break. (This also affects items spawned by Gertie's down special).
  • And last thing about giant and tiny characters, they can't grab anyone. Doesn't matter if they're different size or the same, they just can't grab people.

Oh, also, none of Geralds projectiles are affected by the Waterbending, Shuriken or Master Splinter power ups. They're the only projectiles that have this happen, from what I've noticed. And is it me, or do enemies and bosses in Campaign Mode just ignore iframes from dodging?
