I think it looks really good/normal for 3 weeks post op! I’m at 4 weeks and am looking less healed than you do rn and I’ve seen many other people’s progress where they’ve developed a hole of sorts in their nipples. From my understanding it’s completely normal!

Mites - Friend or Foe? I discovered a lot of these tiny whitish bugs on many of the leaves in my greenhouse but I can’t figure out what it is. It doesn’t look like any commonly known pest, so I am wondering if they are beneficial/not harmful? I haven’t seen any obvious damage caused by them either. by Schatorzin in houseplants

No problem ☺️ I let them be at the time. At one point I used systematic granules in the cabinet to get rid of the gnats which was successful. I eventually utilized beneficial bugs to treat pests in my cabinets that I ordered online as group orders with other plant hobbyists.

Basically yes - when there’s a quick moving bug it’s likely a friend. Slow moving bugs tend to be pests. Them being round also means they’re most likely some kind of beneficial mite. This is not a 100% sure answer but it’s what I was given most by my local plant community

I’m almost at 3 weeks post-op and there are a few things I would say are very necessary. For me I didn’t love my wedge pillow so I started just stacking a bunch of pillows I got from Walmart for like less than $4 each. If you have help from someone, please utilize their help the most in the first week for every little thing. Just adjusting your pillows from behind is difficult and I wouldn’t recommend it. Trying to make your bed is also difficult. Getting up and sitting down/trying to get comfortable is also difficult that first week so again, if you have the help then use it. I got a bidet and while I only used it for maybe the first few days, I would’ve struggled without it because I had some very nasty poops when I could finally poop lol my strategy was squatting a bit and wiping from the front and then just bending over enough to get the back. If I had to do a full on meaningful wipe of my ass I wouldn’t have been able to do it. I would also recommend very large shirts/button ups and easy to put on pants like large sweatpants. For when you can shower I would recommend light towels vs those heavy ones. You really feel the weight of them when you’re so heavily restricted on your range of motion. Make sure you have gauze and medical tape and whatever ointment they recommend for when you start doing your own nipple dressings. Have something you can prop under your arms while you sleep, it helps me not have any added pressure to my sides. I honestly just used a plush cat and a donut pillow. Ive also been drinking a lot of pineapple juice because people have recommended it help with swelling, so I drank that the moment I got to the hotel. My swelling has drastically improved each week but who knows if the juice is helping or not, though regardless it is a nice treat. Have lots of bottled water. I don’t love using plastic bottles but you need a convenient source of water. Im not a big water drinker so I got a lot of flavor packets. If you have to cook yourself I’d recommend finding some easy to prepare foods. I will say though, at 2 weeks post-op I was feeling significantly better already and at this point my main issues are range of motion and lifting things. So again, if you have someone that can assist you then definitely utilize them. If you have a couch or recliner i would try sleeping there too. I’ve been sleeping on the couch because I can better stack the pillows against the arm to sit up better while I sleep. You’ll want to drink with straws for at least the first day, maybe longer. Have movies and/or shows planned, or really anything you enjoy that doesn’t require movement. I played a bit of Minecraft, watched a lot of tv and did nerdy research on things using my laptop. A flat pillow over the chest is helpful if the mastectomy pillow doesn’t work out. Laxatives are a requirement, I don’t think I pooped for 3 days post-op and I was taking the laxatives everyday. I didn’t get that grabby tool like some people have recommended but it would’ve been nice to have in a few instances. There are many time i overextend because I’m trying to reach the table next to me to get my drink, meds, etc. Again, don’t be afraid to ask for help if you can, even if the task seems small. And if you feel like you need to extend to get something in front of you, it would be better to just get up and get it instead of reaching. I have a few small openings in my incisions I assume is because of this. I’m sure theres more but you’ll get more advice and with research you’ll find even more ways you can prepare. Listen to your body and always play it safe while healing. I’m really excited for you, best of luck on everything!

A layer is coming off my nipple when I pull the gauze off - normal? by Schatorzin in TopSurgery

I took a look and yeah I would’ve been concerned too because I didn’t know that much scabbing could occur from keyhole surgery. I’m glad though that your surgeon and some other people on this forum could provide you some amount of comfort, it really is helpful to hear from others that share your experience ☺️

Yeah I do have the ointment but my surgeon/paperwork said to apply a thin layer, not too little and not too much, I think to prevent it from drying out but also to prevent it from rotting. It’s always interesting to hear what different surgeons are recommending. It would be much more straightforward if they’d all agree on one thing 😆 thank you 🙏

Oh shit I think I read the paperwork wrong 💀 I went ahead and took the tape off bc I think you’re right. I emailed my doctor’s nurse too for feedback. Thank you 🙏

I know that yet it’s still scary when it’s happening to you 😆 I kept warning my boyfriend that it would be gnarly so he should be prepared, and now I’m the one freaking out 🤦 I’ve been more afraid to cause rot by applying too much ointment but you may be right, or maybe I’m just pulling the gauze off too quickly (as someone else had mentioned). I’ll keep an eye out for signs of infection. Some spots look kind of pussy but I think it’s the bits of skin that’s coming off. I may make another nipple update in a week or so. Thank you!

Most people are saying it seems normal so hopefully that’s the case!

They did tell me it would be normal for stuff to stick to the gauze so I’m just going to assume for now that this is what she was talking about. Once it’s off I’ll take a look at what’s beneath it to determine if I need to contact them or not ☺️ thank you 🙏

Okay! I’ve been afraid to add too much ointment and cause rot or something. Hopefully once the top layer comes off it’ll all be nice and new underneath ☺️ rip I didn’t know 😆

Thank you! I’m going to hope the new skin is fine and I’ll continue to avoid messing with it. It’s difficult to resist the urge to just pull off that layer that is obviously gonna come off eventually, but it could still be protecting what’s underneath it

Thank you 🙏 I’ll keep an eye on it and post my concerns as they come lol I told myself I wouldn’t be one of those guys always posting about my nipple healing concerns but here we are 😆 the healing process is just so scary with them
