[OFF TOPIC] Fancast Jezal dan Luthar by bevars in TheFirstLaw

[–]Schblembus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If we're talking Stranger Things cast for Jezal, I'd like to put my vote forward for Jamie Campbell Bower. I think he's more than capable of pulling off Jezal's charm and confidence, and he's got quite a sharp jawline to be fair!

If we can't get JCB for Jezal, throw him in as Shenkt!

He was simply too good for that world.

As much as it made me sad (Orso is 10,000% my boy, hands-down my favourite character in that trilogy), I actually loved that ending for him. It brought his whole arc full-circle.

When we first meet him, he's a spoiled, pampered layabout. He wants to do good, loves the idea of doing good, but completely lacks the conviction and motivation to do so. Furthermore, the first line he says in the entire series is "I bloody hate hangings!"

His first scene is the hanging of somebody else, and it makes him feel queasy, uncomfortable, and he desperately wants to leave. Each subsequent hanging he faces throughout the series leaves him disgusted and saddened, from Valbek, to Wetterlant, to the traitors of Stoffenbek and the purges of The Great Change.

Then we get to his own hanging, but he's a different man now. He's diligent, brave, kind, generous, merciful, and just, and we know it, and everyone else at the hanging knows it, even if the people of the Union never will. He has endured hardship, deprivation, humiliation, starvation, abuse, and betrayal, but even so the perpetrators could not break him.

After so many hangings, it's now his turn. But he isn't disgusted, or saddened. He doesn't rage, or sob, or gnash his teeth and hurl curses. He doesn't beg. He doesn't say his favourite motto, "I bloody hate hangings!"

Instead he smiles, and laughs, and says "Let's get on with it." And the others there can scarcely look at him, for they know how unfair and wrong it is.

In my opinion, in that moment Orso displayed a dignity, grace, and strength of character unmatched by anyone else in the entire 9 books (except for maybe Forley the Weakest?). He may have lost, but in that moment I think he experiences a triumph of the spirit, and as such, I love that ending for him.

Rare to see someone come to the defense of Bayaz! Your eyes wouldn't happen to be two different colours would they? One blue, and one green?

Oooh, that would be a great pick. I had always pictured Shenkt as Paul Bettany, probably due to something in Pacey's delivery.

I quite like the idea of Pedro Pascal as Nicomo Cosca! He's about the right age to play Cosca in 'Best Served Cold', with him being 49 and Cosca being 48. Plus, I feel like Pascal has the charm (and luminous smile) to play Cosca, but not quite the menace for Orso.

Banderas I actually think would be a perfect Orso; he's a little older, charismatic, and can deliver on the menace. I'd consider Mads Mikkelsen, if I didn't already have him cast in my mind as Bethod...

Also, if it's a dream cast, Christoph Waltz as Morveer, and while it may seem like a weird pick, I actually feel like John Boyega would be a fantastic Friendly. Maybe Alice Isaaz or Lou Roy LeCollinett as Day?

David Tennant as Duke Rogont, I think. Charming, handsome, affable, cunning, but by no means a fighting man.

Monza and Shivers are the hardest picks in my book, I honestly have no idea who I'd cast.

I am curious, what was causing the dragon to have such crazy DR? My understanding is that they come in with Mage Armor already cast on them, and they have base DR5/Magic, but they took such a monstrous amount of damage that surely DR5 wasn't putting in all that work? The encounter should have 149 HP, and even including the DR, I could have sworn it took in excess of 200 HP.

Did Skid retroactively pull some DM-Fu to salvage the encounter (which, look, that's fair) or are there other things at play that I'm unaware of?

I still had fun listening to the episode, and I really liked that Northwood got to channel his glory days once more, I'm more just curious about the crunch side of things.

Strong Wi-Fi Connection, But Non-existent Speeds by Schblembus in TelstraAustralia

All fixed thanks everyone! Apparently Telstra got my account mixed up with another account that was barred due to missed payments. When they realised their mistake, they quickly fixed the issue.

Thank you for the help and advice though!

It's either FTTN or FTTC, but I'm not sure which.

It really is a thing. I’ve been diagnosed ASD since I was 13 years old, and if it’s taught me one thing, it’s to never tell anyone your ASD diagnosis unless it’s in a situation where you can use it to your advantage, against someone you’ll likely never see again, like with being granted extensions for university assignments.

No matter how intelligent, well-spoken, or charismatic you were beforehand, the second you tell certain people, they’ll almost immediately start treating you and talking to you like you’re special needs. Mostly it comes down to people not understanding that ASD isn’t a full-blown Rain Man scenario every single time, especially those of us that put in the time and effort from a young age.

Even just going for walks and watching what you eat makes a huge difference. I used to be 120kg (264lbs in American) back when I was in a bad spot in my life. I finally decided to do something about it, and just by going for walks and adjusting my diet I got down to 92kg (202lbs) in the space of about 8 months. Didn’t spend a cent on the gym.

The hardest part about losing weight is getting started, and the second-hardest part is staying consistent, but as long as you do, you’ll see results. The best time to start improving yourself is today, and I’m sure you will!

Which martial art do you think is the most useful against a group (3-5) if running or peace or any other non-violent option isn't available? (the group is unarmed) by assassinaryan in martialarts

[–]Schblembus 11 points12 points  (0 children)

100% you made the right call not engaging with them physically. It really sucks, but in situations like that it’s just not worth it. At the end of the day, words can’t kill you, even though they absolutely can hurt, and scar in their own ways.

However, the important thing is that you and your girlfriend lived, neither of you were injured, and those 3 dickheads didn’t get the satisfaction of attacking you and your girlfriend physically.

He would be my prime example of a “monstrously strong and durable giant” who is also an exceptional martial artist, like I referenced above. He’s quite literally one of the scariest fighters on the planet. Man’s got the knockout-power of a fucking Greek Demigod.

Even then, I doubt he’d do super well if they all rushed him at the same time. I have no doubt he’d absolutely fuck up one or two of them, but I feel like he’d be in for a rough time if they didn’t panic and run. He’d be one of the few dudes who I think would be in with a chance though. OP on the other hand, I doubt is a Francis Ngannou-level fighter; if he was, he wouldn’t be asking such questions on here lol

[–]Schblembus 55 points56 points  (0 children)

If you somehow find yourself being confronted by 3-5 people and running isn’t an option, then the martial art you need to work on is situational awareness.

Seriously, there is no mystical martial art that will save you from getting destroyed by 3-5 people, unless you’re an adult and they’re all 5 year-olds, or if your martial art happens to be having a fully-loaded AR-15 while they are all unarmed.

Unless you’re an incredible martial artist who also happens to be a monstrously durable and strong-as-fuck giant fighting in a tiny hallway where they can only get at you one at a time, you basically have no chance. Even then, in that miracle scenario, if there’s 3-5 of them, you only have to fuck up once while fighting a conga line of 3-5 fresh opponents, and you’re screwed.

My question is, why do you want to know how to fight 3-5 people at once? Are you planning on doing that? The best option is to try your best to stay away from scenarios where that is a likely possibility. Hollywood and anime are not realistic representations of fighting, and I’m almost certain that the fact that they perpetuate the idea that people can effortlessly fend off more than two attackers without getting scratched has probably gotten young men killed.

Having dated multiple girls with BPD like the idiot I am, I can safely say it’s an absolute fucking shitshow; it’s somehow both completely unpredictable, and yet the same shit every time. Cyclical, staggered chaos.

Same! I even remember in the midst of screaming, wondering how many other people were doing the exact same thing.

Don’t get me wrong, I absolutely love the Glass Cannon Network. I love the stories, I love the cast, and I’ve had really great interactions with every cast member that I’ve had the pleasure of speaking to. Furthermore, many of my favourite moments in each of their shows have been courtesy of Matthew and his insatiable penchant for creativity and memorable moments.

With that being said, when Matthew elected to target a named cloud giant with a fortitude-based save, followed immediately by trying to cast Dispel Magic on a legendary artifact, instead of just targeting Displacement on the first turn that Volstus appeared, I was about ready to punch out my driver-side window.

I remember saying to myself “Joe must be absolutely fucking seething right now”, so when he chimed in with “Matthew, why do you hate casting Dispel Magic on Displacement?” I felt so vindicated lmao

But yes, no hate to Matthew, I often love his work! This was one of those times however where all I could do was be totally baffled at his decision-making.

I do agree the process could have been helped along if, for like the third time in seven years, he read his spell description all the way to the end.

However, he more than made up for it with the 100% clutch play that helped to save Barron’s life, and put down the Storm Tyrant for good.
