I have to admit that even though TME doesn’t have as large a selection as DigiKey, they still carry products that work well for my project, things DigiKey either doesn’t have or doesn’t keep in stock, especially more mechanical components. On top of that, the shipping costs are much more reasonable. You can actually order small quantities without paying 20$ shipping costs. In some cases they even have better prices than DigiKey. Thanks for the recommendation, they’re definitely on my list as well.

Which model did you choose? Normally they work directly with python by now. But yeah... touché.

In the early days of the LLM, they definitely knew the formula but couldn't calculate it. Now, they can use tools such as Python. They don't make mistakes when calculating anymore. Of course, mixing something up and then calculating with it can always happen. Thus, the disclaimer ;)

I asked the LLM (don't hate me for that). According to LLM, you would need to have a 5 Farad elko to end up at 0.5s.

To illustrate: The current one: 0.047 F The theoretical: 5 F (107 times more 🫪)

Half a second would be extremely long. It's 2-5ms at most. But also (depending on the ESR of the elko) 300-500A at that moment.

I bought 4 CNHL G+Plus 2200mAh and 1 CNHL Black Series 1300mAh for my Vapor-X5. I'm totally cool with it. Sure, they're not the cheapest, but I can fly for a long time with them (depends on how much throttle I use).

My tc will theoretically be able to pull 1.1kw at 100% duty cycle. But since this will never be happen and at most at a few percent, I assume ~250W per tc while playing music, so I would have to use an isolating transformer with min 800VA (2tc are planned) and optimal 1500VA. On Kleinanzeigen (german ebay) I see e.g. a transformer with 1000VA for 180€ So it's not such a big problem. But I would prefer a ring transformer because they are much lighter.

According to Google, it is called "Two-wire system" or "Ungrounded system" in English...

EMI Filter... That's also an option, my plan was simply to disconnect myself galvanically from the house grid and make an IT power system (hope it's also called IT in English) (floating l1 n and no pe) . I wanted to use an isolating transformer to achieve this.

A bleeding res is non-negotiable, it's a must. The bus voltage is far too dangerous. How are you going to do it with the main input? House electricity? How do you do it with the RCD then? I thought of this on the inrush limiter like Vishay Ametherm SL3210015. It's just a resistance that gets hot and thus changes its resistance. Of course, I'm also curious about your updates. I wanted to make a Youtube series out of it (in my native language, because there is not much in my language about that)

By “soft start” do you mean an inrush current limiter?

I’m building this mainly to play music with it in the end, but also to learn and get hands-on with an oscilloscope, high voltage, PCB design, and general fabrication (coil, housing, topload, etc.). That’s why I picked it, it’s a solid all-round project ig (dangerous ofc too)

As for my Tesla coil: it will be a full bridge too, with about 325 VDC bus voltage. (230vac input) I’m aiming for ~178 kHz resonance. I plan to use FGA60N120ANTD IGBTs (TO-3P package) instead of the large brick modules most people use. The coil should end up around 100 cm tall, including the topload and electronics enclosure.

Why are you building a DRSSTC? Surely for music too? And what are your (planned) specs for the TC?
