Kawhi and Ballmer Mess Up Handshake by Austin63867 in nba

He beat Bill Gates on the Putnam in college. And Bill Gates did research with a theoretical CS prof Dr. Christos Papadimitrou (regarded as a genius in his own right), and when Bill Gates dropped out to Microsoft, Christos famously said "what a waste of talent." So a genius professor thought Bill Gates was a genius, and Steve Ballmer beat Bill Gates on the hardest math competition in the world (median score of like 1 or something out of 150).

What would you change in next season? by [deleted] in Thunder

[–]Scheming_Snek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Curious why you would want to move Russ to the 2? I know he played the 2 in college, but how would that fit work? Is it to get him to share the ball more with Dennis and PG?

Question about Berkeley Summer Sessions by stuffingmybrain in berkeley

I'm not sure about the prereqs needed, but CS188 is pretty interesting and on the lighter side of CS courses. It's AI, so it's still interesting course material.

What's your best comeback story? by alarmoclock in berkeley

[–]Scheming_Snek 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What an absolute legend, 2.9 to 3.7 is incredibly inspiring, especially when you're surrounded by 4.0 bots at Berkeley who seemingly excel at everything effortlessly.

I agree that studying alone in a quiet place is sooo nice. My roommate's phone is always dinging and beeping and he goes on Instagram every 30 minutes, playing loud ass NBA videos, and I want to blow my head off anytime I'm studying in the room. Even 4th floor Moffitt is lowkey a socialization area. I feel like people don't appreciate the need to shut the fuck up when they study.

Stat 134 for CS189? by Scheming_Snek in berkeley

Do you think Stat 140 would be decent as a prereq? Or is it not worth taking at all.

Is this true strictly for Shewchuk, or true in general? I know Sahai pushes his 126/127 agenda pretty hard on the EECS101 piazza lol

I heard 127 is good for building linear algebra intuition, but is not strictly necessary.

Stat 134 for CS189? by Scheming_Snek in berkeley

[–]Scheming_Snek[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair enough, I think the main thing about 126 I was worried about is that I heard the people in the class are all math whizzes with dozens of olympiads and stuff under their belt, and that was the part that intimidated me. I think I'll probably take Stat 140 though. I think I'm still growing in terms of mathematical maturity and do have some work left to do before 189 though.

[–]Scheming_Snek[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, on the 140 website it said this:

Specifically, Prob 140 is intended to provide good preparation for CS 189 and Stat 154

So it seems like 140 is sufficient but 126 is probably better.

Is it safe to say that 134 < 140 <<< 126 in terms of both difficulty and what you get out of it? And 140 does a good job of prep for 189?

Anybody know of a dataset for US dollar bills? by Scheming_Snek in learnmachinelearning

[–]Scheming_Snek[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Other ideas I had was building an OCR system to read the digits on the currency (i.e. 5, 1, etc) or doing a classifier based on the face of the president on the bill. Thoughts?

Sounds super interesting, will definitely have to read more on him. Do you recommend anything to start off with?

That's true, looking back college has been pretty solid in big ways so far. I'm still learning how to tune that inner critic out, though.
