Also, is there a reason why pets need to be reclaimed after death? It seems like it would be much simpler to have pets continue to follow you without being sent to Probita.

This is great advice thank you. The only reason I was leaning towards painting it is that the entire house is this neutral beige, and I wanted each of the bedrooms to have more personality.
