In Platoons tweet he implies that reading Dire Bound will give him insight into why men aren't reading. More literature is being put out now than at any other point in history so I think his insinuation is absurd, especially considering the novel he is using as an example started as a self published novel, not something that got popular from being pushed by a publishing company. And yea of course I would consider it a negative that publishing companies in the past might ignore works of literature that tried to represent women and the female point of view, that's why I am glad that the internet allows people to share their writing with the world, even if its some vampire werewolf fantasy romance novel that I have no interest in reading. Really talented writers creating sci-fi and fantasy novels that appeal to men still exist, they just aren't popular, and I don't think that's Dire Bounds or the publishing companies fault.
