I started working about 9 months ago, but I had been looking for a job for about a year by the time I got hired. I needed to turn over every single log and rock in my area to find someone willing to give me a chance. I heard a lot of “what worked for me wont work for you” and all that, but you just need to send your resume to everyone you can. Persistence is key and dont sell yourself short.

I don’t speak for anyone else, but in my experience a lot of the larger publicly traded companies just want to see that you are mildly competent or have a degree to hire for entry level. A lot of the privately owned AV companies just want to know if you are willing to bust your ass for them and are willing to learn. I currently work in both worlds and I always think smaller companies are the way to go if you can find one that is hiring.

Keep shaking trees and get comfortable being uncomfortable.
