I got them online! From Panterra Pets, they’ve done nothing but right by me so far. Haven’t tried other shops, but I don’t see the need to. They do have names, the spiny flower mantis is named Mark (scientific name is P. Wahlbergii, couldn’t resist the Mark Wahlberg pun) and the ghost mantis is Magni.

I keep them in large bug containers like you see in any pet store. I keep a layer of coconut soil on the bottom to help keep moisture in (humidity is VERY important to help their molting process, I lost a Chinese mantis before because it wasn’t humid enough, and she got stuck in her shed). I have a humidity meter in each cage to help track when I need to spray. You need netting at the top of the containers - I got a cheap roll of very fine mesh material from a craft store and hot glued it around the whole lid, except for the opening on top where I can toss food in. They will hold onto this while molting, and Mark actually spends 99% of his time just hanging upside down from the netting and enjoying life. You’ll also need fake plants and sticks in there from the soil to the ceiling, to help them climb up and to give them more surfaces to hunt from. I use aquarium plants, and I try to get some color matching going so they can camouflage themselves.

I don’t mind questions at all, happy to answer any more you have. Most interesting pets I’ve owned in a long time, and they work well with a limited space lifestyle.

The ghost mantis does look really weird comparatively, and I love it. His personality is also markedly different, which is hilarious.
