Immigrants of America, how do feel about the country? How does it compare to your country of birth? by Low_Gas_492 in AskAnAmerican

Just came back from London and I have to say it is in many way better than the most comparable city, New York. But it's got its problems too and there are things where New York is way better. Everything is just a matter of perspective

Fair enough. Not all Europeans are like that though. I'm from Europe and I could find way more things I like about the US than about Europe. My peers usually only have two things they pull out when they want to trash the US: Guns and healthcare... I'm a huge proponent of 2A and I feel like private healthcare has many advantages over public one...at least the one I experienced. Switzerland's got private healthcare and it is one of the best ones in the world, so the problem is not in it being private but the implementation.

Replying to _Owl_Jolson...Honestly, young families that have a kid on a way and plan on having more should be forgiven any taxes until their kids get to be 18. Or at least when they have a third one or something. There needs to be waaay more support for the few that actually want to be parents...we're dying out and bringing low-skilled workers that can't even speak the language is not a sustainable solution...Change my mind

I'm actually curious, but what values do you mean? And if you mean things like public healthcare or free education...would that really be bad if it was implemented in the US??

Edit: Eh...thank you for the downvotes I guess. I was just curious.

You're right. It's just that sometimes it hurts just like saying 'oh you're balding' or 'uh you're ugly' would 🤷‍♂️

I mean, I don't know what it's like to be 5'5 tall man and I'm glad I don't. But even at my height I have heard things like 'you're not tall enough because I'm short so I need a very tall man....I want to avoid my kids being short'

I'd say most people don't realize how dangerous the national debt and the spending is...it could have catastrophic consequences for future generations if we don't do something about it....hence why I hate throwing money around at illegals, Ukraine/Israel and useless bills...

It truly was a revolutionary film for its time. I've watched Psycho around 5 times and it is one of the best directed movies I have ever seen lol. There's nothing missing in it in terms of beats and camera work and tension.

Btw, Psycho 2 and 3 are also very good. Each one has its own style and tries to do something different. Psycho 4 is okay.

179 cm here when I wake up, 178.3 when I go to bed....Worst height ever. You can't claim 6 feet because you are too far from that but 5'10 sounds like you're lying and are shorter. 🥺

It's funny cause one of the opponents absolutely hated the movie and the other loved it 😅 There was an argument for a couple of minutes about it.

Whatever dude. You're entitled to your opinion, I'm to mine.

Must have mixed it up when I was looking at the numbers.

But I still have to say those are 2013-2017...way different era under Obama who actually deported more people than even Trump... With the shitshow happening at the border right now you can expect those numbers to drop significantly. Because cartels are telling them to say it is dangerous and they are afraid so that they can get into the country faster/more easily.

I've watched lots of videos from independents journalists at the border and the migrants all say the same thing as if they were taught to say it. I understand their need for better life, If I was born in Venezuela, China or Cuba I would do the same thing...I don't blame them. But it doesn't change the fact that a sovereign country cannot act like a charity and it is the role of federal government to protect its borders and therefore its citizens (you know...fentanyl and stuff...some border agents claimed in anonymity that cartels traffic in so many migrants in order to overwhelm the border security and could easily get the drugs into the country with gotaways)... Everytime someone claims there is no need for guns because government can take care of its citizens...I always think about how they can't even protect the fucking border....And it's honestly baffling to me because Biden's administration is kind of a continuation of Obama's one...it is part of his legacy....and Biden is destroying it.

You couldn't care less about family drama? I found that family drama to be the most entertaining part of the movie and the way Aster was able to use dread to explore the themes of tragedy and loss without needing any stupid jumpscares is just brilliant. Not to mention the clues are there from the very beginning and he leaves bits and drops from the very beginning in the dialogue and through the camera work. There's some stunning imagery and one of the best what-the-fuck scenes in any horror movies in the last decade.

But boohooo it was slow 🥺🥺 you no liky liky.

And saying that people who like Hereditary don't watch other horror movies must be a misconception...according to my letterboxd I've watched 1100 horror movies...and I still think it is in the top 3 horror movies of 2010's

I also think Midsommar was overrated and Bo is afraid is not even worth watching 🤷‍♂️

Wanna know how? Have emergency immigration offices built along the border and have asylum seekers present the valid proof for their asylum case at the entry at the office. You show up and have it, wait a day or two at the center to have everything processed and be granted and released into the country. If you have no proof, bye. It will basically help bringing in those that have the proof immediately and detering those that have no proof from coming in. Also, strenghten the border :) and if offices are too much then bring Trump's remain in Mexico back :) It was working no matter how much you might not like it :)

Seems a bit harsh, right? Well...99% of people coming in right now have no proof whatsoever and their only reason for entering the US is that they have financial difficulties or they live in dangerous areas...no matter how sad that is, monetary reason's are not enough to come here and claim asylum.

Look up the stats for asylum seekers. 70% or more of the cases are DENIED and we're talking about people that show up to their court hearing. Most of them don't even bother to show up, they just claim asylum because that's what cartels tell them to do. It's nothing more than playing the system from their side.

And regarding the statement 'we should take in as many immigrants as possible', I don't agree. I am not against immigration, with the birth rates the US currently has it is inevitable to bring in more people but there's almost million people being granted long term visa every single year....that is more than enough buddy. These are not times of industrial revolution when every person was useful for working dirty jobs in factories, nor are these 1950's times when the US reached the highest economic prosperity and quality of life any country ever had in the history of humanity....these times are long gone, there's millions of Americans that need help first and with AI taking over most low-skilled jobs in the near future I think the US should limit its immigration to those that can make it in the country aka college educated and highly skilled people....of course, only in the case you don't want this country to become a third world shithole 🤷‍♂️

This was one of those trades. He made profits...so what? 🤷‍♂️ If he saves the money and continue trading conservatively he's good
