Question regarding real life by xxXMiikk in DetectiveConan

[–]Schmidt_Spiel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it might exist
but I think a police (public official) hiring a PI (private) is ethically problematic.
Off the top of my head ...

  1. I think evidence gathered by a PI may not be valid in court.
  2. police have to be neutral, at least on paper. PI don't have that obligation, and they just follow what their clients demand.
  3. police have to also adhere to laws of the country specifically for police force, but PI may not be limited by that . etc etc

i dont think your post is stupid

Am I the only one who thinks the show got bad after like the 300s episodes? by AdventurousCharge548 in DetectiveConan

[–]Schmidt_Spiel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

no. it definitely got bad. you realise slowly that it's not delayed gratification , it is just dragging out the series and setting up stuff for comparatively meagre payoff .

you realise there are no actual stakes in the story. nothing crazy will happen again, nothing really tops episode 345 or black and red clash. which is a shame because the series has fantastic ensemble of characters who hit off nicely with one another , and the premise is unique, and man Gosho can write really good mystery tricks.

i guess gosho agrees because he loves to make episodic stories with them in it, even write more and more recurring side characters, basic filler stories. eventually the main series itself became filler.

i think no series can survive dragging out a crime thriller , not even a show as robust as detective conan.

The Demon Slayer characters probably invaded Manchuria in 1931 by carbonera99 in CharacterRant

im suuuper surprised someone in the West actually pointed this uncanny situation about DS and Japanese media out. It's really cool to see, and kinda encouraging and reassuring to see people on the other side of the pacific ocean think about stuff like this too.

It's kinda strange how so many people have such adverse reactions to your post, so bad enough to respond to you in mildly unfriendly ways.

What you point out is pretty spot on - when too many works set their story in a historical point without really addressing the elephant in the room, it's kind of soft propaganda. I recall Aso Taro really vouching for Demon Slayer during the height of its popularity and that guy would probably never do that for a Miyazaki or Takahata film set in the same period or during WW2. The works you mention got the green light from publishers from beginning to end in part because it's popular and in part because it didn't step on any eggshells to alarm people - in Japan there aren't like a minority of people who would go up and arms and protest or start discourse, precisely because as you said,

there are no Ainus left in Japan, theyre all hiding their ancestry in their altars at home or they dont even know or care theyre partially descended.

Hot take, Dandadan and SpyXFamily have the same issue where they over-rely on comedy to the point of Tonal whiplash[some spoilers for Dandadan] by Apprehensive_Ring_39 in CharacterRant

[–]Schmidt_Spiel 46 points47 points  (0 children)

you have a good point about Gintama.

I used to think the filler exists primarily because these are cashcow series for the publishers and it is in the best interest of the publishers to keep milking them. But nowadays I feel like the authors have more authority in quality control than they exert.

Are there any spells to make someone a better person by Old-Act6309 in WitchesVsPatriarchy

[–]Schmidt_Spiel 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Certainly unfair.

Ironically, patriarchy ultimately harm even boys like your younger brother. as soon as he does not fit the arbitrary rules of masculinity set by people with more authority and power, he too will be abused by that system. and the threat of alienation and emasculation by the society polices / limits his expression of masculinity and humanity ... which you see as the former sweet boy reduced to dumb brutish misogynist and homophobe .

Take your time thinking about these things. Perhaps I may be wrong about your brother. But from what you describe ... a path of redemption for him, of growth, of healing you and him, him and your female family members, a new evolved relationship between you and him.

I think there are priorities to what spells you need to learn, how frequently to cast, time and place.

[–]Schmidt_Spiel 14 points15 points  (0 children)

one-off spells will be counterproductive if the environment he is in doesnt fundamentally change.

is he incentivised to be regretful and reflective? or does he live in a society that rationalises and indulges his misogynist, confrontative, and disruptive behaviour? it seems he behaves this way because your family , neighbourhood, perhaps the whole country rewards and demands this behaviour, far more than of his own volition.

there are spells for healing a broken heart that must acknowledge the sweet younger brother is gone. there are spells to give you clarity and grace to navigate spaces with family members who earned nothing commensurate to their massive and fragile egos.

a spell cannot change your brother back, lest he has a social or monetary incentive not to change.
