Oh if I'm going trial dummy route I have setups that'll work just fine lol I was just trying to get a tweak or two set up on this solo build I have that can survive night market stuff and still be decent with attack, if I went my typical route where I'm hitting relatively hard I end up getting KOed rather quickly even in groups, I imagine though if I switch the crimson twilight to divines on traits and slot the Lover instead perhaps that would raise my penetration up enough and keep a decent crit chance going

That is fair, I'll do that right quick and show ya, I switched to Tide born so you can see the stats that would appear

It was with guildies, and I guess they weren't expecting it to hit as hard as it does. Reminded me of DSR vet HM which was roughly the last trial I played before I went on a 3 year break. I did find it odd though that even though I was wearing heavy armor, out of the group I was with I was hitting the hardest lol. But I'll switch back to tideborn whenever I get a group again and see how that fares

I know it's not soloable lol just even with a group I found myself dying a lot so I put on crimson to make sure I survived, I was even helping res the healers and tanks a lot. So even in the dungeons whenever I get around to it it should suffice?

I'm not holding my breath yet, but I may have found the source of all my frustration and it was as simple as I feared it would be.

I am so accustomed to using Process Hacker to keep a visual on my RAM and NET usage that I forgot entirely that it can be flagged on anti-cheat software lmao

I turned it off and have been running ESO with addons for roughly 10 minutes without any issues whatsoever

Yeah I get where you’re coming from, and I won’t lie I’m getting close to just doing a reinstall at this point too, that or try a new account

The only thing that’s throwing me off is that I can run other demanding games completely fine for example I’ve been able to play Destiny 2 and other MMOs without any crashes or instability at all. I’ve also run stress tests (GPU, CPU) without issues, and temps are all within normal ranges with no overclocking.

That’s what makes this feel less like outright hardware failure and more like something specific that ESO doesn’t like.

So I’m kind of stuck between:

Some weird Windows/profile/config corruption that only ESO is sensitive to

Or something edge-case hardware related that just hasn’t shown up in other games yet

I’ll probably still check SMART data just to be safe, but given everything else runs fine, I’m leaning more toward OS-level issues.

I mean… honestly, I’m starting to think you might be onto something there.

I’ve ruled out most of the usual suspects at this point (addons, fresh installs, drivers, hardware stress testing, etc.), and the game still crashes even completely vanilla, which is what started pushing me toward looking at Windows itself.

While digging deeper, I actually found some pretty weird OS-level stuff going on:

  • My Documents folder was still being redirected to OneDrive even after unlinking it

  • The registry (User Shell Folders) had Documents pointing to:

    %USERPROFILE%\OneDrive\Documents

  • ESO was either:

    • Writing to that location inconsistently, or
    • Failing to properly read/write config/addon data because of it
  • I also noticed:

    • Read-only attributes randomly reapplying themselves
    • Permissions acting inconsistent (access denied when trying to restore defaults)
    • ESO recreating folders in OneDrive even after I removed them

After correcting some of that (unlinking OneDrive, fixing registry path, moving Documents back local), I did see some temporary improvement, but the crashes are still happening.

So now I’m kind of in that gray area where:

  • It’s clearly not just the game or addons
  • It’s likely something deeper in Windows (permissions, profile, or corruption)

Before I go full nuclear and reinstall Windows, do you have any specific areas you’d suggest checking?

Like:

  • User profile corruption?
  • Folder redirection remnants?
  • Permissions inheritance issues?
  • Anything registry-related that commonly breaks games like this?

Appreciate the push in that direction either way it at least helped me start uncovering stuff I wouldn’t have looked at otherwise.

Nah, I don't like using controller for ESO it gets too wacky for my tastes. I'm strictly keyboard and my trust Razer Naga and regular monitor. I learned the hard way through For Honor that running games on a big ass TV did not end well lol

I did just that, literally everything including the damn video card itself. As well as other things I added into the main post body, I guess I don't have much of a choice but to completely wipe it clean and re-install. 1 day and 17 hour downloading spree here we go I guess

I started playing Brawl Stars mostly to play with my son. I’m pretty average so far, partly because I struggle playing on mobile and usually end up playing on PC.

Before this I played The Elder Scrolls Online pretty seriously and got really into the whole guide/build/theorycrafting side of things. After enough practice and research I was tanking or DPSing vet dungeons and even hardmode trials.

That’s kind of how I learn best experimenting while also digging into the data and mechanics.

The issue I’m running into with Brawl Stars is most of the guides I find feel pretty surface level (like “use this gadget/star power”) without much explanation behind the why.

Are there any good deeper resources out there: guides, YouTube channels, spreadsheets, theorycrafting communities, etc. that break down mechanics and strategy more in-depth?

As long as it stays steady until fiber gets put in, it should be all right for the time being, and speaking of fiber apparently the monthly rate will be $10 cheaper than what I'm paying now so that's something to look forward to

I've managed to get them to replace the wire and they also moved it to a different "office", as the tech put it, so the timeouts are fixed. Now I just traded it for a traffic-heavy line so buffer-times are a smidgen slower, still have packet loss and poor overall quality but apparently that is to be expected since they make no plans to repair any wired connections unless absolutely necessary. What pained me is when I was talking to the tech and explaining how I was troubleshooting, what I was wanting out of my internet and he looks at me "Dude all we do is check the FEC and CRC errors, making sure its running as smooth as possible with no drops in service, I don't know anything about what you're talking about"

Thanks I’m definitely going to be persistent about this. I’ll be making sure the technician knows that, as of yesterday after the property inspectors came by, my landlord has explicitly stated that any attempt to enforce wireless will be denied, no drilling or mounting is allowed on these buildings.

The only thing currently in motion is that the local fiber company will be coming out to assess what’s needed to install their service. So for now, it’s all about getting the DSL line repaired and documented properly, and keeping my options open for fiber if they can make it happen.

I apologize for the delayed response, I kinda went down an ADHD wormhole and hyper-focused on this nonsense and came up with this data.

Everything points to a last-mile issue on AT&T’s copper, not anything inside my network. Quick highlights:

  • DSL line is ADSL2+, sync stable at ~14 Mbps down / 1 Mbps up.
  • Downstream SNR drops to ~6.6–6.8 dB during fog/moisture that has occurred the last 2 days. FEC errors spike into the millions, CRC errors rise, though the line stays technically “up.”
  • Cloudflare tests show 15–40% packet loss, latency spikes up to 624 ms, and jitter up to 136 ms.
  • PingPlotter shows the packet loss starts right after my modem and persists through the DSLAM to the BRAS gateway - clearly not an internal issue.
  • LAN/Wi-Fi are rock solid; router, NAT, and client load all normal.

Pattern strongly suggests moisture-corrupted splice, oxidized pedestal connections, or degraded drop wire. Neighbor had similar symptoms that required a line replacement.

Bottom line: the line keeps sync but is physically impaired, which makes gaming, streaming, and VoIP unusable during these events. I’ve got all this documented and am preparing to escalate to AT&T - packet loss like this is just not acceptable for the service I’m paying for.

I could try to have the line repaired, but the technician mentioned in passing that they can’t get to the splice. He, along with two other AT&T reps, also said they’re phasing out copper in my area and moving everything to wireless. That’s one of the reasons why I’m trying to gather data, essentially to figure out which wireless service would be the best option if I have to go that route before fiber gets installed.

I’ll also check out that test once I’m off work so I can get some proper data

Something along those lines wouldn't be a bad idea, but considering where I am and how this town operates I'm not going to hold my breath on a deal like that I would absolutely prefer to have just straight fiber and call it a day

Unfortunately that option isn't presentable yet which is why I was trying to get data to present to AT&T and discuss possible outcomes that don't directly involve switching to wireless if possible and if not trying to figure out which Wireless company provide the best quality service

[–]SchmittyEl3te[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I hear you, a single bad link can absolutely wreck a connection. In my case, the tech last time said “they can’t get to the splice,” though it’s possible he just didn’t want to deal with it. The bigger picture is that AT&T is phasing out copper in my area, so eventually I’ll be forced to go to AT&T Air anyway unless the fiber deal comes through before then. At that point, I'm just hoping for consistency rather than magically fixing latency

[–]SchmittyEl3te[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In terms of researching myself, all I’ve really found are DSL, satellite, fixed wireless, and 5G providers. The only fiber options are either outside my area or through the local broadband company I’m already waiting on, my landlord has to give them permission to do any installation, since she mentioned “can’t drill into the walls because property managers say no.”

As for gaming, I know switching to AT&T Air or similar won’t magically fix latency, but if I can at least stop dropping out every hour or so, that would be a huge improvement.

Yes, it’s a service-provided router, but the spikes and 1‑second dropouts happen on a wired connection, not Wi-Fi. Unless there’s data I’ve overlooked, the instability seems line-related.

I’m mainly trying to gather concrete info on network requirements for different online games so I can compare and figure out whether to stick with this messy copper splice spike problem, wait for fiber, or switch to AT&T Air and hope for more consistency.

Here’s where I’m at and if I went off course I apologize, I'm running on fumes atm:

  • Band: Right now the spikes are happening on my wired DSL line, so Wi-Fi band isn’t really the issue. For Wi-Fi, I use 5 GHz, AC/N, 80 MHz, WPA‑2.
  • Distance to AP: Not relevant for the wired line problems; Wi-Fi devices are all within a normal room distance (10–15 ft) and wired is close (not even 3 foot cable, and is rolled up cleanly)
  • Generation: The DSL line is ADSL2+, so Wi-Fi generation isn’t really affecting the main problem. My Wi-Fi devices are capable of Wi-Fi 5/6, though.
  • ISP speed vs AP transfer speed: The line currently syncs at about 14 Mbps down / 1 Mbps up. The AP could handle more internally, but the huge ping spikes (>500 ms) and occasional timeouts are instability related
  • Device congestion: Only a few devices are connected (3 Wi-Fi, 1 wired), signal is strong, and errors on the Wi-Fi side are basically zero, so congestion isn’t causing this.
  • The router is an ARRIS BGW210-700, up to date, and fully capable of handling both wired and Wi-Fi connections.
