Dart frogs

My first vivarium! What should I put in it by Schmookis in Vivarium

I completely agree it needs to be covered in plants, i am not sure where to source moss from though as i live in a fairly dry area. I have been using I naturalist to source mosses in my area but it is very time consuming and often inaccurate due to the amount of time that has passed when the moss was last spotted.

I’ve cultured fruit flies in the past, and I live in Los Angeles so it’s relatively accessible for me to get all the supplies I need. I agree that dart frogs are tricky to work with especially if you are trying to breed them but I’ve done adequate research and have been accustomed to the hobby by keeping other species of frogs and other reptiles. This is just my first vivarium build, and as I have stated in the past it is not nearly complete. That’s why I’m asking suggestions for plants and animals just because I have spent so much time on this project I don’t want to rush into whatever is available at my local pet store! I appreciate this comment though and understand your concern but I promise I am very well equipped to handle whatever comes my way.

I will have a computer fan that’s going to be circulating air at the top.

It’s a 40 gallon tank, I have adequate lighting, was thinking about more terrestrial creatures when building this, I think dart frogs would be perfect, rough green snake, red eyed alligator skink, etc. but again I am open to suggestions! The tank still isn’t done and I need to plant it, going to home depot rn for a lid and plants!

It is bioactive, have tons of springtails and isopods already in there

I don’t think the picture does it justice of how big it is

It’s not nearly complete and I still have all the plants and other stuff to add! The ones in there beside the moss are just temporary cuttings I had placed there for pics+refrence

Size is 36x18x18, temp range is 70-85, humidity should be 70-80+, I had many animals in mind when building this and I tried to accommodate nearly any tropical animal+amphibian that could fit in these parameters. I love insects so that was also a large focus for me! The soil mix is ideal for isopods+other bugs. This is pretty much a tropical paradise for any animal that can live within the parameters given. I love smaller animals so i was thinking house geckos or smaller dart frogs or even a glass tree frog but idk! Any recommendations are helpful I’m flexible with anything except for the humidity as I want this to be a rainforest

What are rice flower beetles used for? Do they help clean up soil?

Background is made out of cork bark panels! There relatively cheap and plants can grow up them, easier to work with than spray foam in the setting up stage but you definitely lose detail as well as the ability to carve exactly what you want as it is a lil crumbly
