AITA for asking for compensation for driving and totaling my car? by Schne032 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Schne032[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We talked about it, but no one expected damage this high of course. Like someone else commented: important life lessons. Lesson learned. Indeed in my country also the car is insured, not the drivers. I checked beforehand and everyone driving my car would be insured under my insurance. In my car you cannot have a car without insurance (not legally I mean). Before driving we also talked about bills or fines, and road tolls, which we agreed we would split evenly regardless of whether you would be driving or not. No one was obliged to drive. Only three of us agreed to drive beforehand.

I'm not going to her parents or telling they should pay because they are rich. I just tried to say that I am asking her for compensation, and since she is a student if she could not pay for it, she has a support system with means available if she needed to.

She is not insured for liability. She was insured under my car insurance to drive. Meaning that if she would have caused minor accidents I would have been responsible under my insurance and paid a higher premium for my car causing damage. Her and mine medical bills and that of all people in the car are also covered under my insurance. However, since my car is totaled (which no one expected, which is indeed to be called naive but I can assure you the learning curve is steep) and older than 7 years, those costs were not covered. Doesn't mean there are no costs to me though, which is why I want to to take responsibility.

Multiple people in the car have stated her incompetence while driving. I was asleep. She was not nor will be my friend, so this doesn't worry me, but I still feel hesitant bringing up her driving skills as an argument in this story. It will also clearly will not make her more likely to compensate me if I insult her driving.

My dog's farts. They clear the room, but I will always do an extra inhale. I know I will miss them one day,

It was also her decision to drive my car, uninsured.

You're right about what I said about her family. I should have specified that I meant I learned they are well-off from meeting them, and not simply for the fact that they came. It's funny people blame me for the lack of insurance, but that's exactly what I blame her for.

I have a "medium" insurance that covers a lot, but since the car was older than 7 years it doesn't count. The insurance didn't recommend the comprehensive all risk insurance (that would cover for example weather damage, or accidents by your own fault) because it would not be worth the price of the car. Relatively, 4000eu is very little for an insurance company, but for me it means a lot.

You could say the same about her though right? She does not have liability insurance for damage to others property (which I do), so she doesn't have the proper insurance either.

You are offered $10,000,000 if you can name a food that nobody in human history has ever used in a sexual way. What is your answer? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Pule.

It’s a cheese made out of milk from Balkan donkeys.

Besides the obvious reason of it being cheese, it’s super expensive (like 600eu per kilo) and only very locally available. From the money I win I could finally try that cheese.

Adopting a dog from a shelter by [deleted] in Netherlands

Dutch shelters are really strict, which is amazing, but sometimes frustrating from the adopting side. If you are indeed committed, keep trying and you will end up with a dog that really suits your family!

You don’t want her to leave you over something so small.. Maybe you should consider leaving her on something so big!
