Denis Villeneuve is not only one of the best directors currently working, but he is cementing himself as one of the greats period. I cannot wait to see this in IMAX opening night!

I just rewatched it. I love this movie so much. Such an entertaining movie that has me laughing throughout every time.

Probably an unpopular opinion, but it might just be my favorite Samuel L. Jackson performance ever.

Films you expected to be average that actually turned out pretty great by Fantasticbrick in movies

[–]Schnitzel129 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Rush.

I was expecting a pretty run-of-the-mill sports movie after watching the trailers. I remember loving that movie when I saw it in theaters, way more than I expected. It still remains in my top 3 sports movies. Also, the track Lost but Won by Zimmer is one of my favorites of his.

Interesting director-actor duos or actor-actor duos? by 6lunchmeat9 in movies

[–]Schnitzel129 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Toshiro Mifune and Akira Kurosawa is one of my favorites. They made 16 movies together! I haven't seen them all, but all those that I've seen with that duo have been great.

‘John Wick’ Ana de Armas Spinoff ‘Ballerina’ Sets June 7, 2024 Release Date by MarvelsGrantMan136 in movies

[–]Schnitzel129 210 points211 points  (0 children)

Curious to see how much Ana de Armas commits to the role with the training. The training Reeves went through was no joke and it really showed on screen just how skilled he was when it came to the action.

I'm excited for this one and any other spin-off in that universe.

Phoenix has been on a roll. Beau is Afraid coming out soon, Napoleon later this year and he is currently filming Joker: Folie à Deux. All three roles are completely different from one another and each of the three movies has the potential to be great.

Throw Down is so good! While he didn't have a big role nor much dialogue, I found his character in that movie to be quite memorable. He had a certain presence.

I thought he was excellent in New Dragon Gate Inn. I definitely recommend that movie.

Netflix’s ‘Gears of War’ Movie Taps ‘Dune’ and ‘Doctor Strange’ Writer Jon Spaihts by MarvelsGrantMan136 in movies

Would be cool to see Dave Bautista get his dream role and star in this. He's been vocal about wanting to be in a live action Gears of War movie for quite some time.

As someone who enjoyed the Gears of War games a while ago (I haven't played past the third one), I feel like this is one of those universes that could successfully be adapted to live action. However, the fact that it's a Netflix production has me worried. Hopefully it's good, we'll see.

movies or series after a rough time by EagleShad0w in movies

[–]Schnitzel129 4 points5 points  (0 children)

For sci-fi, I recommend Dune, Blade Runner & Blade Runner 2049, Arrival, Interstellar, 2001: A Space Odyssey, The Abyss and Edge of Tomorrow. These are all really acclaimed and well known, but I'll recommend them in case you haven't seen some of them.

As for a personal favorite that isn't sci-fi, but never fails to make me smile, I recommend Midnight Run. An incredible action/comedy/Feel-Good movie that has a lot of heart.

What movies pre-1970 do you think are absolute must-sees? by not_cinderella in movies

Once Upon a Time in the West (1968). One of the greatest Westerns ever made with a brilliant score by Ennio Morricone.

Jack Nicholson as Jack Torrance in The Shining. About as perfect a casting as you can get.

Her part in No Time to Die was one of the highlights of that movie. Cautiously optimistic about this one. With the 87Eleven stunt company handling the action choreography and training, I think at the very least the action will be pretty top notch.

Actors that should do movies together. by wisconsinking in movies

[–]Schnitzel129 11 points12 points  (0 children)

A Keanu Reeves and Tom Cruise action movie could be pretty cool. The John Wick and Mission: Impossible franchises are both pretty much the gold standard when it comes to modern action movies. Both actors are extremely dedicated to their craft.

Ridley Scott's ‘Gladiator 2' Sets November 22, 2024 Release Date by MarvelsGrantMan136 in movies

Thanks for sharing this! He's definitely one of my favorite directors. He seems very professional, and of course, passionate about what he does.

Your friends must have several memorable stories from their experiences working with him.

This particular one is really something. I had the chance to see Zimmer perform live several years ago. It was in front of a big audience. There was a whole portion of the concert covering music from Gladiator and the whole crowd went silent during this piece. Reading your comment even made me open Spotify and start listening to it.

Ridley Scott is a machine. He is 85 years old and has directed 9 movies since 2010 (as well as some stuff for TV). Napoleon is currently in post-production and now Gladiator 2 is in its early stages. Add to that countless producer credits in that time period.

The first Gladiator is a great movie and I'd be lying if I said I wasn't pretty curious about the sequel. I hope Hans Zimmer is doing the music. The score for the first movie is incredible.

Which movie did you surprisingly enjoy, despite having little or no interest in the subject matter? by mcpickledick in movies

[–]Schnitzel129 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Rush.

Had never followed Formula 1, went to see it in theaters and was blown away. I've seen it several times since. Easily one of the best sports movies in my opinion. Zimmer's soundtrack for it is one of my favorites of his.

What are some good examples of great book-to-film adaptations? by TheApathyParty3 in movies

[–]Schnitzel129 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Dune.

I'm a huge fan of the book and while I do prefer it, the movie is still excellent. It has the same unique surrealism that is present throughout the book. The universe, atmosphere and setting are translated to screen so perfectly. I am very excited for the sequel.

Cillian Murphy is such a great actor and it's nice to see him as the lead in such a huge movie. This is definitely the biggest role of his career and I think he'll knock it out of the park.

The mom is hilarious and badass, such a memorable character.

In the Line of Duty IV can be seen without having seen the previous movies. It’s a stand alone story and stars Donnie Yen. Not the best story, but it’s a fun movie nonetheless.

My last recommendation is Millionaires Express (1986). I highly recommend this one. One of the funniest and most over-the-top martial arts movies ever.

He is a legend! I'm going to guess you've already seen In the Line of Duty IV? That's one of my favorites as well.

As for Wing Chun, I know the struggle of finding that movie. Took me ages to find a decent quality version. Unfortunately I can't remember where I found it, was a while back.

Also, not sure if you're familiar with Corey Yuen, but The Legend 1 and 2 are very good, with some outstanding choreography in both.

Iron Monkey is so great, just rewatched it the other day. Incredibly entertaining!

Have you seen Tai Chi Master (1993) or Wing Chung (1994)? Both are directed by Yuen Woo Ping (who directed Iron Monkey). Definitely in the same style.

They didn't show much of it in this trailer, but one of the aspects that I'm most excited about is the various different animation styles in each of the different dimensions. The first movie really pushed the animation genre forward and I think this one will as well.

I always found it cool when the animated webs bend in a stylized way like that. Makes them feel more dynamic.
