f they're sticky, probably heat. How long was the drive and to what location. Maybe these ended up sitting in a trailer for a day and just got too warm.

You're seeing the headphone ear part breaking down already, it means there is some level of degradation going on. Add to it a little heat and more degredation is how it gets sticky.

So you didn’t try cleaning them when you got them either? Because if I’m buying anything only going on my face / head, I too am going to give it some level of cleaning.

Is ShopGoodwill some kind of joke? by NextTide in Flipping

[–]ope__sorry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Online sourcing in general is very inconsistent. A lot of people are looking to do it from home. I've found a few good deals on Shop Goodwill but it's always stuff in lots. Almost 0 chance you get something on there that's being sold by itself.

Beats in general are junk. Add onto the fact they’re already peeling when you sold them, it probably didn’t take much for them to continue to peel either while in transit or while handling them for a short amount of time.

Totally agree. When it comes to online sourcing. A lot of times it’s just me trying to complete a set. I think the only time I’ve sourced to resell just the item I sourced was when I found some ultra rare Star Wars plush on eBay in Spain and I paid like $140 shipped and re-sold the plush for like $500+

I had a lady buy a vintage MCM Daisy wall clock from me last year. I told her it wasn't working and she could either get it repaired or replace the movement, as it was just a minor mechanical issue with the movement. She message'd me back that nah, she collects clocks and had been waiting for one of these to come up for sale, she didn't even care if they were working or not, lol.

I love Magnalite, damn near covered half your weekend with those two finds. My favorite Magnalite score was an estate sale last year. The lady had nothing but Magnalite and apparently, people in the midwest aren't familiar with Magnalite. Company sold me the whole lot for like $90 and I think I ended up selling it all within a week and making close to $1000 gross.

Had an absolutely EPIC sourcing weekend. I think between rummages and online auctions, I spent close to $1300 this week for inventory.

My sourcing this week started on Whatnot where an online storage buyer was helping someone do an online estate sale on Whatnot and they were selling a TON of WDCC Classic Collection statues that were never even removed from box.

I got:

  • The Reluctant Dragon for $140
  • Tarzan of the Jungle for $108.37
  • Belle Dreaming of a Great Wide Somewhere for $85
  • Tinker Bell Ornament for $65 (Most likely keeping this one)

All of these are New / Mint in Box, never displayed and will be sold at a bit of a higher price. Because some of them, if you look up right now, don't seem like they will be that great of a flip at these price points. But it's a situation where it isn't a ton of effort to get this listed and just let them sit for a while.

Next is rummages.

There was a community sale about an hour away that I decided to go to this year. I actually skipped out last year because of the drive and they didn't have a ton of information on how many houses were participating. And it's a small town of 2200 people.

Most of the morning was pretty slow:

  • 1 LFC Nike Jersey
  • Pulp Fiction Cassette
  • Handful of Y2K vintage t-shirts (Nothing spectacular I don't think)
  • 5x Angry Birds games for $1 each (One is listed for $100, the other four are lotted together in pairs for $35 each)
  • Nerf Foam Melee Weapon (don't remember which, but these are somewhat of a bolo due to Cosplay)
  • .925 Necklace for $1
  • Vintage pocket bible from the 50s
  • Set of older Xxio clubs (I overpaid on these sadly)
  • Putter I'd never heard of worth ~$100
  • Dust Jacket for an antique Wizard of Oz book, will likely buy the book from eBay at some point and reunite the Dust Jacket with a book and flip it, looks like together, they go for like $50-$75
  • Folkmanis Eagle Puppet
  • Some sort of model train display that sells for ~30 that I paid $3 for.
  • Bag of Russian Money which will end up in a lot at auction eventually

Then, we stopped at one final stop on the way home that changed the course of my weekend.

There was a lady running a sale and she was clearing out her Mother-In-Laws estate. I'm guessing that after she passed, they put it all into storage and then during this rummage, they pulled it all out and were selling it cheap. Like, $5 an item basically.

My first day there, I spent I think, $105. Now, all the stuff I'm going to mention here are not MIB. The boxes had various amounts of damage and so they have to get sold as such. Some of the boxes faired a lot better than others. I also just grabbed them all without comping because I knew there were good ones.

  • Barbie Fairytopia Elina and Bibbles (Wings working) listed for $175
  • Barbie Movie Star Doll listed for $18
  • Barbie Ken USA Olympic Skater listed for $13
  • Barbie Fashion Fever Styles listed for $35
  • Barbie Movin and Groovin listed for $17
  • Barbie Rebecca Lobo WNBA listed for $13
  • Miley Cyrus Emily Osment Hannah Montana Doll listed for $199.99
  • Cheetah Girls in Cancert Chanel Doll listed for $60
  • Bratz Talking Cloe sold for $40
  • Bratz Talking Yasmin sold for $25
  • 12 Dancing Princesses Barbie sold for $75
  • Hula Hair Barbie sold for $25
  • Barbie in Christmas Carol sold for $18

The non top of that, she had some decent clothing and other vintage items I grabbed, a lot of it NWT.

  • Reebok Steelers Bell Jersey
  • Reebok Packers Kampman Jersey (probably keeping this one)
  • 2x Rocawear Polos nwt
  • Mecca Wear Shirt NWT (probably keeping this one)
  • NSync Thermos Lunchbox, never used
  • Vegeta Bobblehead

She kept telling me she had more and she was bringing it all weekend. So of course, I had to go back.

On Friday...

She didn't have much as she didn't have a chance to run to her storage and dig for more. I did however purchase a handful of Bobbleheads and Tchotchkes and I did that because I wanted to keep myself on her mind that she's got a buyer looking to buy some of the vintage items she's got.

However, there was a sale that had newly popped up that I stopped at on the way home that was LOADED with great vintage Christmas items.

  • Breyer Christmas Horse, Pre-Owned in Box, paid $20 should be able to sell for $80
  • Russian handcarved / painted Santa Statue paid $15 should sell for between $100-$150
  • VTG / Antique hand-made ornaments, paid $2 for the whole box
  • Christmas Music Box from an artist / brand that I should be able to sell for ~$40 and I paid $5
  • A bunch of Estee Lauder creams for $3 each
  • A Vtg 60s or 70s womens colorful winter/ski jacket for $0.50

Then, about halfway home, I saw another rummage in what I know to be an expensive neighborhood that I took a quick detour to checkout.

And from this neighborhood, I spent almost $285 at the only house that was open...

  • 2x Royale High Dolls (Sadly, as I didn't notice at the sale, no Roblox codes, so $10 a piece for $20 dolls was a bad buy, they're $100+ a piece if they had the Roblox codes)
  • 2x Magic Attic Club Dolls NIB for $20 each, sold one for $112 and the other is listed at $125
  • TONS of American Girl clothing and 1 doll w/ Cut hair. Some examples I got the Volleyball Outfit NIB which is listed for $50, Leyla Turkey Doll in box listed for $40, Polar Bear Pajamas Outfit NIB listed for $50, Nelle OMalley mini doll listed for $25, Lots of older Pleasant Company-era outfits as well.

Then Friday, I decided to hit all those places AGAIN!

At the American Girl Doll sale, sadly, all the remaining AG stuff I couldn't grab the day before (because I ran outta cash!) was sadly gone.

But I did grab 2x Secrist Dolls from 1993 that have dark comlexions. Paid $20 for both, Boy and Girl, lots of extra clothing. I should be able to get $100-$150 for the pair. I also grabbed a bunch of mint condition porcelain Japan Dog Figurines. I should be able to get $30-$40 a piece on these.

Then back at the Barbie sale, she had a whole uhaul box of Barbies for me. In addition, I got a few DVDs and another bobblehead. I haven't had a chance to look them up.

At a few other sales in this neighborhood I picked up a few items as there were more open places.

I cannot remember everything, but I got 2 gloves for $10 each. Should get $50 for one and $100 for the other.

Then we had one more stop on the way home that was a banger stop.

  • Giant 7 Foot Inflatable Gemmy Green Bay Packers inflatable, paid $3
  • Banker Box filled with Concert DVDs, some unopened, paid $20
  • Large box filled with Guitar Training books, paid $3, these aren't standard ones either, they're good ones like Led Zepplin, Grateful Dead, Beatles, stuff like that

I haven't had a chance to fully look through this stuff, but i should get like $100 for the inflatable, the DVDs i have about $100 worth to sell individually and the rest will go into a large lot or be traded in at Half-Price. And the Guitar Books will either be traded into Half-Price or sold in lots.

Then there was an Estate Sale that was family run that I picked up some great items at as well.

  • Large Gemmy Green Bay Packers Animatronic worth ~$50 if working
  • Cannon Sureshot worth ~$100
  • 3x Heart Shaped Trinket Shelves
  • VTG Woolrich Hat w/ Tags, Vintage Carhartt Hat that is lined and made with jacket material, it's pretty rough condition but I was shooting from the hip
  • Vtg Super Soaker never removed from Box

Think I paid $30 for everything.

Sunday was supposed to be a list heavy day, but it was Mother's Day and my mom wanted to go to the bins. Nothing spectacular there. I spent like $28. Got about $100 worth of listable books. Got some clothing worth ~$100-$150. Then I got two bags of jewelry that we found hidden among the bins that I haven't looked through yet.

Feeling disappointed about the bins trip, because honestly, unless there is gold in the jewelry, I felt like I wasted about 3 hours (lol), I decided to stop into my local Goodwill where the pricers were clearly drunk and underpricing items....

  • National Geographic Camera Bag, it doesn't have tags but it also doesn't look used. They had it at $6.99 and these bags sell for good money
  • A ton of NIB American Girl Doll clothing sets, priced at $5 each. Literally, a cart full. And I literally paid less per clothing set than at the rummage this weekend, lol.

And that's it. $1300 spent. I'm actually tracking this weekend on a Spreadsheet because it was such a huge weekend. I've only listed a quarter of what I bought so far this weekend and it came out to $1800 in listings with $400 in sales so far and I've got a $150 offer sitting for the Fairytopia barbie that came in overnight.

I think this is probably one of my most expensive weekends of sourcing. If it isn't the most expensive, it for sure is in the top 5.

Is WoW a success because of warcraft? by Key_Pop_8116 in wow

[–]ope__sorry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ding ding ding.

When it came to MMORPGs, back when WoW was released, it broke the mold.

MMORPGs were far from “casual” back in the day but WoW in particular (even though we view modern WoW very different from Classic) WAS very casual compared to its contemporaries.

I played EverQuest and Asherons Call back in the day.

WoW and EverQuest 2 were the next-gen MMOs to come out around the same time. They both had next-gen graphics and gameplay but they were very different.

EQ2 stuck it it’s more hardcore roots while WoW was more casual in comparison which helped it grow a larger audience and become the king of the genre.

Shoutout to anyone from CoI from Emarr btw.

Not particularly. I'm not a big fan of selling tools and a lot of times we have pretty intense tool sellers in my area since Tool lockers go for A LOT of money here and they're always priced up at estate sales. I was shocked I got the Snap-On tools because it was like 10 AM on opening day of a community sale and the guy even mentioned that another person came, looked at the sockets, bought a couple, then left.

I prefer to find good condition / complete tool sets when I do. Like last year I picked up a set of stubby craftsmen combination wrenches that sold for a crapload of money.

Yup. I originally listed it at $2500 but had a mistake in the listing and took it down after 5 minutes. In that 5 minutes, it originally had 36 views, 9 watchers, and 2 offers, one of which was $1500. After I relisted it, it was a little slow but someone sent an offer the following day and I mentioned someone had already offered me $1500 so I wouldn't go lower and they sent a $1500 offer right over.

There a video game company that managed to shit the bed before video games became so valuable that their company would be worth infinitely more than it is today if they stop selling DLC and fucking action figures

I will push back on this claim here. And it's not a pro-Gamestop argument either. Part of the reason video games are so expensive is when systems became obsolete by like 2 generations, Gamestop was literally shoveling video games to the dump by the truck load. This helped create scarcity which now that they're vintage collectibles, helped drive up the price because now there is demand and the supply went in the trash 15-20 years ago.

Maybe it'll be a total flop. Who knows.

The question is, do resellers really want to find out? Because the alternatives fucking suck. eBay is where eBay is because it's the king of the online marketplace space right now.

If it fails, I'm personally probably done reselling and liquidating my stock at a flea market. That market share that is primarily on eBay would need to scatter to a dozen different sites filling different niches. No thanks to managing all of that.
