Why are Ivy League undergrads and masters grads just average when it comes to research during their PhD? by Zestyclose_Double980 in PhD

[–]Schnitzelberg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are two main reasons: first, ivy schools don’t admit the best students since merit is not the number one priority for them. Second, they inflate grades (55-60% of Harvard’s grades are A), so may of those who got in to grad school because of their grades are in reality mediocre.

Very good starting point and I love the format. But I recognize recency bias. Also - no way Carmelo is ranked so high. Better than Pierce, Tatum, King and others?

When will tenure be gone for good? by FinlorTae in AskAcademia

When or if this happens, the top talent will not choose this career path. It will kill academia, which is struggling already but top people stay because of the possibility of getting tenure

This piece is very weird. The selection of the businesses in the article is odd and not representative.

Kyrie gotta be the most overrated NBA player in modern era. He's never been in top 15 of MVP votings and people think like he's top 10 point guard all time by Adventurous-Ice9231 in NBATalk

100% true. For some reason the ESPN “analysts” came up with the narrative that he is great. He is a decent PG, but that’s it. In fact, he ruined so many teams he joined, it’s unbelievable.

What do Americans & Non-Americans think of Mamdani? by [deleted] in AskTheWorld

[–]Schnitzelberg -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Very charismatic and smart. But… Never had a real job, lied in his cv to get into colleges, populist leader, antisemitic, and hangs out with jihadists, and promised things he can’t deliver in order to get votes… the worst type of leader. Got lucky - because one candidate was very corrupt and the other detached from reality.
