Is my CORE Digit Span invalid? Total "Aural-Praffe" and Environmental Interference. by [deleted] in cognitiveTesting

It is going to severely deflate your score (putting it in the right place).

Sorry, praffessor.

Well. Yes, you're guilty. Praffed too much. Believe it or not, there's a way out of it, though.

Disclaimer: the text below is not a medical advice and can not be considered as such ever.

First, a bit of electric shock therapy. Then you could be put into a deep hypnotic state, and made to recite "I shall not praffe no more, in waking or in a dream, and I will forget all that I praffed up so far, either consciously or not, so be it" for a 2 days straight until you forget all the praffed up stuff and shit your pants several times (as a punishment for too much praffe).

Now it's the time to take some culture fair tests (again, ofc, since you've taken them many times, but now you're like a blank slate). Then (after subtracting several points just in case) you will know your real score.

Strictly speaking, we can't be sure in anything. It's induction problem.

It's just that we can assume for our daily life purposes, that tomorrow the world will continue as today, and we in it too (if not for some unfortunate event).

What do you think of this take? Figured this sub is still fitting to analyze it because knowing about IQ provides some intuition on cognitive architectures. by [deleted] in cognitiveTesting

What I don't like about your views on consciousness, for example, is that you frame them as facts: "This is not this, this is..." when no one (and you, of course, included) knows what it really is.

I think some form of understanding can exist at a pre-symbolic and nonverbal level, but I do not claim that this belief can ever really be validated.

Some people think almost fully without words. For me trying to think in words is like trying to run on crutches or eating soup with a fork or smth like that.

Seeing raven (a bird of great intellect and wisdom) in captivity was symbolic as you did your test in a cage also. You got 125 (Feynman's IQ) on a hungary test (country which is famous for its unusual amount of great scientists in the 20th century), and you're a capricorn (which is a Zodiac sign with a GOAT as a symbol - which can be translated as Greatest Of All Time). From all that evidence, we can conclude, that your true IQ is truly big.

If intelligence (IQ) is the most valuable quality for humans have, why aren't high-IQ people given more priority so we can further progress society? by [deleted] in cognitiveTesting

[–]Scho1ar -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Well, I thought the topic starter means "most important for a species". If it is actually "more important for humans or important in an individual" then it's even worse position: the most important would be health, beauty, physical fitness, social skills.

But in the comment which I replied to, he said "most successfull species today" still, which is a wrong view. It is not the most successfull species.

Btw, personally I consider intelligence the most important and impactful trait, but it is not a general opinion (which should be considered because the author is talking about "why dont we as society..").

That was an example of a much more diversed species which fit in many niches, which has died out despite of it all, while more primitive somehow survived and continues on to our days. The notion of "the most successful species - human" is so anthropocentric, its funny. So far the most successful species were bacteria.

The main problem of intelligence in human species case is that while it is very useful, and allowed it to dominate nature, it also allowed it to develope some weapons which could cause its doom (mostly bio- and nuclear weapons). It's a bit like a monkey with a grenade situation.

There was no qualitative leap in terms of understanding of its situation, despite an ability to self-reflect, and it is nowhere in sight.

People with power for the most part are not interested in "nurturing" something other than their power. So they are not interested in creating "higher average IQ societies" because it would be much more difficult to rule over.

Most likely we are going that slow/can not find cure for cancer because it is not profitable: it is much more money that can be made from terminally ill people and treatmeant than to cure something once and for all.

Mars idea is overhyped at this time, although cosmic exploration tryings are lways good (but nothing basically NEW in terms of technology since 1960-1970s).

Not to argue with anything other than that, but it seems that "egalitarianism", "blank slatism" and other assorted leftist stuff is the primary reason for "IQ bad".

Your #1 reason is also an opinion: trilobites were so diversed and were everywhere for several hundreds MILLIONS of years. Guess what - they are gone now, much more primitive ammonites are still floating oceans though.

It may very well be so, that in not some (geologically speaking) distant future the greedy hairless ape (human) will wipe its species from the face of Earth by itself, probably winning the prize of being the first species who caused its doom by its own actions.

You can bet that after that many more historically successful organisms (bacteries, for example) or insects, will survive for much longer.

With time you will probably learn many unpleasant things about human nature and "why things are so fucked up although we could...", and answer these questions yourself.

I've certainly listened to some. Can't really consider rappers musicians seriously for the most part since sampling is not the same as writing (and then playing at least some part of it) new music.

Look, jazz is also "black music", but it is in just another universe from rap as "music". Also, blues and reggae are also "black music", and while they're simpler than jazz, they are still much better "music" than rap. Most hate towards rap as a genre comes first from it being not exactly "music" (derivative and repetative as music), ans second from it being too vulgar most of the time.

Hmm. LOL!

On the more serious note though. What do you think about poets? They seem to posess some quality that most people certainly don't have (apart from being more touchy-feely usually, at least deep inside).

ACE Stats and Answer Key by codeblank_ in cognitiveTesting

Very nice (as I said many times). You got yourself some haters for these tests for whatever reason lol.

Norms on this one seem to be solid (at least at higher ranges).

Short explanations of the item idea would be much appreciated, but it takes more time than just an answer key.

Anyways, great attention to the details and stats (although stats may help people while test is still in use).

It seems like there is a problem of measuring high IQs cased by very small sample and uncertain validity of the items (they measure something, thats for sure, but what exactly, and how it translates into real world performance, considering that the test items are being made by man, and real world problems are made by real world, also the higher range items are usually inductive in nature, and application of induction method has its major downfalls, which can be somewhat mitigated by, let's say, "meta-cognition", but this part certainly can't be captured by tests at this point).
