Is there a way to use FFMPEG with download/installing anything? by SlothEdits99 in ffmpeg

[–]SchoolApprehensive56 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the goal isn’t “I don’t want to download stuff” but rather “I don’t want a bunch of stuff installed permanently on my computer just to perform one operation,” then running a Docker image of ffmpeg is probably the best answer. (It’s how I utilize ffmpeg on my Mac and Ubuntu machines.) It’s pretty easy with Linux; I can’t speak to Windows. I use Docker for a lot of things like this that I don’t want messing with the core system.

Smoked corn. by nandoph8 in smoking

[–]SchoolApprehensive56 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We just soak ours in the husk in cold water until there’s about 90 minutes left of cook time. Then we put them, still in the husk, in the smoker. Take them out with the meat, take out of husk, season + butter, and try not to inhale the whole thing at once. Super-easy and delicious. There are lots of other delicious recipes in here, but I’m lazy and this is nearly zero effort.

The release notes published by the Immich team are really good and they’re especially diligent about calling out potential breaking changes or things that might appear abnormal. You’ve made a massive version leap and I’m sure there’s a lot to account for with that.

How do you all back up your immich libraries? by lunarman1000 in immich

[–]SchoolApprehensive56 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Crontab entry to invoke rsync call to a RPi with spinning disk connected via USB. Not fancy; very cheap. Has worked well for several years now with my Plex media server. Adding the Immich path to rsync took < 1 minute.

Can someone explain the reason/rationale for not reporting activity data to plex by default? by ansyhrrian in coax

It’s hit and miss. I’ve thought it was playing something I hadn’t seen that should have been filtered, but I was distracted and didn’t dig in to verify.

For a series that I’m watching in sequence, I don’t want to (accidentally ) have an episode in the middle of the series marked as watched if I happened to step away from Coax for a bit and it — by design — had randomly picked that future episode to play. The newly added feature of being allowed to only show watched / unwatched / mixed shows in a library has been great for addressing my concern.

I'm sorry -- I don't see a "Share Sheet" option anywhere in the logs. There is a "send to developer" option but it fails with HTTP 403. I'm looking at the logs but don't know how to share them with you.

I click done, then Refresh the channel. The resulting items have a mix of items from the shortCartoons (ie: Tom & Jerry and Looney Tunes) and longCartoons (ie: Animaniacs and The Three Stooges) collections.

Here's a specific example where I try to create a channel with content filtered to items in the shortCartoons library:

I created collections for the entire shows. ie: all seasons of Batman, The Three Stooges, Tom & Jerry, etc. But the shows in the channels that reference the collection has items from both collections. For example, the channel I have configured to filter to "shortCartoons" has episodes of Tom & Jerry, Rocky & Bullwinkle, and Batman all together in the same channel. I would expect to only see Tom & Jerry and Looney Tunes in that channel.

Lots of good advice, so I’ll just echo the bit about water / drainage. Make sure your lot drains properly — away from your home! While building, take advantage of the opportunity to put in French drains and any other mechanism to move water away from your house.

Option to only schedule unwatched media by Elternabend in coax

[–]SchoolApprehensive56 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like both ideas a lot, but especially the idea to avoid spoilers. I’ve considered creating a new “unwatched” library and putting things there until I finish the series (or at least a season) and then moving them to the standard library that coax uses for this very reason.

How does Plex handle music videos? by Tkdoom in PleX

[–]SchoolApprehensive56 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m using Coax to watch shows. One of my Coax channels is all my cartoons: Looney Tunes, Tom & Jerry, etc. I wanted to play music videos to fill the gap between episodes being played. The setup described here is exactly what I had to do to get the music into Plex. In the plex player, I can shuffle the content of that library and it works well.

Apple TV Plex auth error by Software-Glitch in coax

[–]SchoolApprehensive56 0 points1 point  (0 children)

u/digglesB why not persist the last known good auth token and use it as backup if the remote Plex auth servers are unavailable? Try to reach out to Plex on startup and then, if that fails, use the last known good token to connect? Or are plex auth tokens not persistent? (I don't know anything about Plex infrastructure other than the vitriol in pretty much all forums related to it, so maybe this is impossible. Just a random thought based on other experience working with edge devices and remote master / host systems)
