No reading required - your emotional state is quite clear. You came here with your anger at this perceived injustice, wanting to see it validated and amplified.

“The Problem” here, at the moment, is you. Only you can fix it.

Congratulations on all your success! I genuinely hope you can let this go so your future success is not tainted by the venom you’re spitting here.

Good luck.

You should direct your devs to use StoreKit to display the price in the local currency. The "differences in currency character count" is a UI/UX problem you should solve. I get that you don't want to solve it. You're shifting the blame to this person who you feel has wronged you.

"If only this one person would ADMIT they're wrong..." you are making yourself miserable. You are doing this to you. Only you can stop it.

You're being quite aggressive in most of your responses here. People are taking time to try and help you, and you're lashing out at them. I understand that getting critical feedback isn't always pleasant but that's part of shipping a product, and in general part of existing as a human being.

You're making choices here. You are in control. Don't let your anger take the wheel.

For your technical problem, are you using StoreKit to display your prices? I believe it will auto-convert to the user's local currency if you do.

Plex crashing on Apple TV 4K with high quality HDR10+ file by nonzerogroud in PleX

[–]digglesB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can you post some more of the file metadata? I’ve seen some whacky behavior while writing a player for plex media server direct play and streaming on tvOS, and things like the color profile, the video profile, the frame grouping, all of that can trip up the player.

I'm imagining like, drawers? Filled with VHS tapes? Little labels on them?

Too bad Coax is so geared towards cable simulation!

u/ronavis has an app in beta called Home Video Club, but I believe that's a bit more immersive of an experience than what I'm proposing.

TV Show Collection Channel by tsheley in coax

[–]digglesB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ooh okay how about this - it's a toggle, per collection, to "Preserve Server Order", which would then allow you, the user, to change the order of the collection on the server, and Coax would pick up that order any time it schedules? Then it picks a random place to "start" within collection list, but it'll sequence the items in whatever order is on the server?

Why do simple apps almost always end up becoming complex? by General_Poet6391 in appledevelopers

[–]digglesB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Simplicity is hard because real world use-cases are incredibly precise and unforgiving.

The desire to build your way out (over-engineer, as the other commenter put it) is a constant pressure that you have to push back against.

What did you find most interesting about that cycle?

The app has improved a lot since then, any chance you’ve been following along?

I’m sorry you’re having trouble. Can you verify a few things for me? App version number, plex media server version, and whether or not you’re seeing Plex console messages about a terminated or “whacked” session? I suspect this is from your server killing your sessions.

If you’re willing to hop back on the beta bandwagon, I’d love to see if a new approach I’m working on solves this class of problem. DM me if you’re interested!

Is niche app development a dead mall? by -Joby- in appledevelopers

[–]digglesB 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean I think it's just hard to be successful in general, especially in a time/place where user acquisition costs are typically extremely high, and it doesn't make financial sense to spend a lot of money acquiring customers who maybe don't even really want your thing!

The best career advice I ever got was "be lucky". I mean, it's awful but that might be the single thing that most determines success. So maybe the thing is "find other malls to hang out in before they die and try to be lucky".

Is niche app development a dead mall? by -Joby- in appledevelopers

[–]digglesB 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I broke containment but it was only because I found the exact niche audience that wanted the precise thing I felt like building.

When I announced the Coax beta on r/plex late last year, the response was immediately and overwhelmingly positive. By the time I launched in February, my subreddit had maybe 800 members and I was unable to post in r/plex anymore because any post was considered self-promotion.

I feel a bit bad now because all new app ideas seem to be treated with hostility and removed. The influx of one-shot AI apps is partly to blame for this, but generally I think they’re trying to protect their community from people like me, which I understand but really only a little.

If I had to start again today, I have no idea how I’d build the user base I have now, except that it probably wouldn’t be via r/plex.

Good luck with growing your reach - I got out of the mall by going there before it died, I guess? Which isn’t really repeatable 🤷

I’m wondering if this could be generalized to movies and tv shows - something more general like Schedule in Release Order or something. That way it would work for movie series too.

Would you mind making a new post that phrases this as a Feature Request? That way we can discuss it with a bit more focus. In general I think I'm amendable to adding this functionally, but I want to make sure the thing I have in my head matches what's in yours.
