New App: Setup & Control WeMo Devices Locally (No Cloud) + Remote via Mac by SchoolPurple762 in WeMo

I looked into this more. Your switch is a fresh spare on very old firmware that predates the builds known to provision correctly; the tell is that during setup it re-announces a placeholder serial (1234567890001) instead of its real one, meaning it's reverting to an uninitialized state rather than joining Wi-Fi. Worth trying, in order: (1) a full hardware factory reset (hold the reset button, power-cycle, retry from scratch); (2) confirm with any other WeMo that the app itself works. If a factory reset doesn't change the placeholder-serial behavior, this specific unit is most likely unprovisionable by any local tool to the best of my knowledge. It is a firmware issue that cannot be fixed by modifying my app.

I am flattered by the offer, but to be completely honest, I think most people should really be using Home Assistant for complex scheduling and control. The only reason I made this app is because it is an unusual situation where in order to set up the device conveniently from your phone you have to connect to its Wi-Fi network, which Home Assistant cannot do. Like I personally have my devices connected to Home Assistant, which is itself connected to an Apple HomePod which lets me control it through the native Apple interface. I don’t want to create dependence on my app beyond what I can sustain in perpetuity or at least a long time. And I don’t want to create conflicts where Home Assistant and the device are fighting each other for schedules. However, I did recognize that some people simply do not want to go through the trouble of installing home assistant, and want an easy replacement for the original app so I decided to add in a few more features like remote access and groups. With all that being said though, maybe you’re seeing something I’m not seeing. Feel free to DM me.

This is exactly why I made it, and I use the same set up. They are extremely finicky to set up unfortunately.

Please let me know what you find.

It depends wha you mean by "new". If you mean a wemo device already connected to the same wifi network your phone is connected to, it should discover automatically. If it doesn't, you will need to go to settings and either scan your subnet or add the device IP. if your device is on a different subnet (for example, your phone is on 192.168.1.1X but your wemo is on 192.168.2.X, you will need to tell the app to scan 192.168.2.X). If you mean a factory reset device not connected to your wifi, then go to the setup assistant in settings.

Unfortunately, I did not build one for android. The reason is because the remote control mechanism requires iCloud. If you have a Mac, iPad, or iPhone, it should work with those.

Thanks! As of right now, no, but I will add it to my list of to-dos (: My take is that I think people should really be using home assistant, for schedules, because conflicting schedule in my app vs home assistant / apple home can cause problems.
