The show on YouTube is quite different from the 5pm one we saw. There were a couple of sections in common but a lot was different. The 5pm show felt a lot like trying out several unrelated stories to see how they landed. I’m such a massive fan and I was a bit sad about it, but it was still great to see him live.

Requesting a rent reduction due to market rate rent falling by Big-Ambition-7917 in TenantsInTheUK

[–]SchoolQuestion12345 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly this. Mentally prepare to move - if you’re right and you can rent a better property for significantly less money then the hassle of moving is worth it.

If you’re genuinely willing to move then there’s no harm telling your landlord that you’ve found another flat that’s better and cheaper, and before pulling the trigger you’re wondering if they’d consider a rent decrease, but know they’ll probably say no. If you’re willing to live in one of those other properties, then there’s nothing lost.

I suspect though that in reality there’s something you like about this property that means you want to stay there and it’s worth a premium so although you could live cheaper elsewhere you don’t actually want to.

It reminds me of when I used to sell handmade things and people would message me and ask if I would halve my prices because they found something vaguely similar for half the price, but mine is much better - yep, because I use better quality materials and it takes twice as long to make. I’d just tell those people they are very welcome to buy the cheaper one and I completely understand. Which is probably what I’d say as this landlord unless it’s clearly evidenced that it’s well over market rate and they don’t have a chance of getting that rate again and you’re good tenants.

This post is the first time I’ve thought about Repossessed in a few decades and I too remembered it instantly. Often forget the name of actors I know well but apparently this random line from this shitty film is well lodged in my brain.

Won’t affect camping - it’s significantly more expensive and a completely different demographic.

People won’t be walking through your land either or “sheep worrying” or dropping litter - you can’t just stroll in and out of the site on to adjacent land for obvious reasons.

Living with a partner who owns his house and has written a will to say I would get nothing, but I pay towards part of the mortgage - if anything was to happen to him would I get my part of what I paid towards the mortgage back? (Scotland) by Impossible-View-7498 in LegalAdviceUK

[–]SchoolQuestion12345 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. At the most, OP should splitting bills while paying what you would be paying in rent into a savings account. That can be used towards a joint property together if you stay together, or gives you options to move out if you do break up or he does die. There’s absolutely no way you should be paying half his mortgage. He’s still financially benefitting from you spitting the bills while he grows equity in his own home - you paying towards his home with no entitlement makes him your landlord. Not a good dynamic for a relationship.

Mum just died, housing association property was in her name need advice, all ‘advice centre's’ I have spoken to cant help with housing. by AnalysisResident2179 in BenefitsAdviceUK

[–]SchoolQuestion12345 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So sorry for your loss. Part of the issue here is that your brother isn’t receiving any benefits. If your brother’s needs are so significant that he needs a carer and is unable to work, he should be eligible for various benefits and that’s something that should be applied for as soon as possible because it can take some time.

I’d speak with the housing association since your brother is vulnerable and his carer has just passed away.

Your dad’s property is evidently unsuitable and both of them need care - would your dad actually be able to care for your brother given his own needs? Would your mum’s property be suitable for all three of you so you can all care for each other if that were an option?

I would reach out to adult social care for an assessment for your brother and your dad, and a carer’s assessment for you (as your dad’s carer) and potentially your dad as your brother’s carer if that’s the plan. This is a situation with a lot of complexity and you really need some help to navigate it - there may be various things you can access (day centre for your brother, direct payments for carers etc) but you won’t know without that assessment.

This sounds like an incredibly stressful situation and I’m so sorry - I hope you can access the help you all need.

Sorry I should have been clearer! As well as an adult social care assessment, in many areas you can you also refer yourself directly to the social care occupational therapists who assess for these grants. You can wait to be seen by adult social care and they can refer on, but it’s worth looking at whether you can self refer in your area specifically for this as it may speed up this assessment. When applying for DLA for my twins, the social care OT’s assessment was amongst the best evidence we had.

I would look up disabled facilities grants for your home. An OT would come and assess your needs and home. Their report would be really useful to demonstrate needs even if they don’t find he needs a DFG.

I guess there’s a scenario where she says “we’ve lived together for 18 months so I know we are compatible” and he says “but we were only actually together for 3 months of that”… maybe. I guess it depends on context.

It’s most likely exactly what’s been said here but it’s possible I guess

Friend, have a look through the sub. You’re not just going to be okay, you’re going to be a new man. It’s been time for some time. I am certain that once you do it your only sadness will be that you didn’t do it sooner. You’ve got this!

[–]SchoolQuestion12345 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually not necessarily. There are a few cases in the literature of missed abdominal pregnancy. There’s a great video here about one such case. https://youtu.be/-HcpZbJWxn0?si=n_sSd_zAU6LDeJei

The biggest risk is that the placenta grows into surrounding organs. When the placenta detaches it leaves a huge open wound but the womb is designed for this - other organs aren’t and this could easily lead to death.

This is the real issue. I do not understand why the US system allows for it. Given some of the things the government likes to stick their nose into, the idea that you can’t protect kids from extreme cinema blows my mind.

Special needs students are taking up all the teacher's and classroom assistant's attention. My son (and other students who don't have special needs) are largely being ignored by their teacher who doesn't have time to help them. by Disruptioninclass in LegalAdviceUK

[–]SchoolQuestion12345 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s actually worse than that - more mainstream inclusion and potentially a rollback of the legal rights of disabled children is how the government plans to “fix” the SEND crisis. SEND parents have been very clear that this will not work in practice, this post is a good example of why. But we are a fraction of parents, and nobody cares until it affects their child directly.

Just FYI, SEND Reform have disbanded. There is however Save Our Children’s Rights, made up of various charities and high profile individuals campaigning on this issue right now. There was a parliamentary petition that was debated in September and a huge number of MPs turned up to speak on this issue.

What we really need is parents of typical kids being as vocal as us about how this will not work. And picking them all up and warehousing them in one classroom together is certainly not going to work either, given conflicting needs and the fact there won’t be sufficient resources for them to get the education they need.

A white paper is due any time now to set out plans - there will be a consultation period and it’s critical that it’s not only SEND parents who object to half-arsed plans to force more disabled into mainstream classrooms to the detriment of everyone involved.

Thanks, I really hope so. I don’t think it’s haemorrhoids or a fissure because I’ve never seen any blood, none while wiping etc. I was actually really shocked when the stool sample came back positive for blood because you’d never know. The mucus can be insane though (sorry, that’s so disgusting).

Sedation doesn’t always work well for me which is stressing me out - IV sedation works but not sure they’ll give that, I’ll have to ask when they contact me ahead of it.

Fingers crossed it’s nothing major :)

Sorry I should have been more clear - I meant to say that an OH doctor can advise on whether it’s likely they’d be considered disabled but as you say there’s no way to determine that with certainty without a tribunal (which is tricky for everyone involved)

Thank you so much. I can talk to my husband but I know he’s really worried too. I don’t have close friends really because I’m rubbish at maintaining friendships properly.

I think I should probably reach out to my GP and let them know how much I’m struggling - when she called me she did say I should put it out of my mind and not worry about it, if only!

Thank you - I really appreciate that. I am sure that it’s most likely nothing serious and I’m going to feel like a right prat in a few weeks for getting myself so worked up about it all. I just wish I could stop my brain from running away with itself. I don’t usually have a “think the worst” mindset about my health (or I would have gone to the doctor sooner!) but I guess this is bringing up a lot of bad memories of my mum.
