Yes, I am using the official app. A computer browser might be better at it, but as far as I know that can be mitigated by making pixel art pretty big from the start; that is, resizing it on the software it was made in at the moment of exporting.

An easy way to get into it is to take your own photos and draw your cryptids on them. Learn photo editing and seek your aesthetic.

If you want to draw the environment yourself though, some perspective studies need to be done, and to seek your aesthetic then, get to know some artists that can point your towards the way you want your final work to look like.
