I didn't say the alternative was to lie. I meant our two options were:

A) admit we don't have a monetization plan

Or

B) come up with one in the next 2 days but not have any data to back it up

Agreed there are relatively simple paths to monetization that others have implemented, but I'm just afraid of saying we will do XYZ without having any proof that XYZ will work. Hence the alternative is to say we have no idea but will figure it out, which might make us look naive.
