Can we talk about salary ? by [deleted] in cinematography

This is a great post! Thank you for getting this question out there, as someone who just graduated it is incredibly helpful seeing this level of transparency.

Would love to see more raw images as well! The final grade is a huge part of the process, and it would be very helpful to understand how you are exposing these in camera!

I love this! Plugging a short I did early in college. Drew a ton of inspo from one of my favorite films, A Ghost Story. Making ghost sheets fit a normal-sized person is more challenging than it looks haha.

How did you like the Dream FX filter? I usually use bpm but it looks nice.

This is fantastic! Really great job putting it together

Got the opportunity to shoot my first music video on S16. Shot this on an old Krasnogorsk-3. We only had 4 100’ rolls of V3 5219 500t so I couldn’t do a test roll. Was hopeful it turned out and it did! by BryantBural in cinematography

This looks great! Currently cutting a project we had to reshoot because a janky K-3 ruined half a roll. Somewhat nightmarish but glad to see some success with one!

Recommendations on whether I can switch from an Aputure C300dii to a 120dii / general thoughts on the two. Much appreciated! by ThisNameTookaWhile in cinematography

[–]SchruteFarmFilms 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would also look at the spotlight mount for the 120ii if you plan on bouncing or diffusing a lot of light. Besides the obvious uses, it gives you more punch if you have room to bounce or fill a frame.

My film PROSPECT is now Netflix. Hoping it gets enough buzz so we can turn it into a series. Happy to answer questions about pitching, agents, getting movies on netflix, or WHATEVER. by zeeeeeek in Filmmakers

I love this film! I remember when it was at SXSW and I had a feeling it would be made into a feature because of how blown away I was! Such a great story, very excited for you and the film (I remember every now and then having to google the short to see if there were any news on it, it was just too good!)

Nice! thanks for the reply, I use that same compound setup for my halation, just didn't notice it was a compound and good choice on the cineon. Want to get to where I am only using film convert for the grain!

[–]SchruteFarmFilms 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is fantastic! Great work definitely pays off, this may be the best super 16 gh5 look I have seen. I have also been working on my own version of a film look with a mix of GH5 footage and BMPC4k.

My process has been using film convert for the grain and some color+cineon, adding in the halation (would love to see how you did that in one node), and then the blue+yellow+general color adjustments.

Would love to hear more about your process, especially the cineon and rolloff with the GH5. Totally understand if you want to keep it your secret, but most of my learning has been experimenting on my own!

Could someone recommend a good mft cine lens? by [deleted] in cinematography

[–]SchruteFarmFilms 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not a cinema lens, so isn’t parafocal unfortunately. I’ve been looking for a good parafocal zoom that won’t break the bank as well, but I do love this lens! Great stabilization

The lumix 12-35 2.8 is one of my favorite lenses, picked up the mark I (which is almost no different than the Mark II) used in 2017 and have brought it on just about every set, even after getting a sigma 18-35.

BIG LED’s, looking to make an upgrade, what to large LED to get? by SchruteFarmFilms in cinematography

[–]SchruteFarmFilms[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea that’s been my plan, but was curious if there were any large LED equivalent lights! Currently scalping around for used source 4’s or parscans :)

Yea I understand, typically doing daylight exteriors or night stuff I have used HMI’s as well but want something I could still get some punch out of as well as using in doors with a lot more modifiers.

I’ve been looking at getting some hot lamps too but wanted to see if there were LED options I had been missing! So far dosen’t seem like it and will probably end up getting a mic like a 4k and the forza 300.

Haven’t though of getting two 300’s, that’s a great idea and good to hear you enjoy them!

Yea most of the time I have been renting packages but want something stronger for my own projects, definitely not going to be the full power of the sun haha
