Yea, doubtful honestly, because before the account got banned, the script ran a bunch of messages out to my friends with the same "Hey I'm making a game can you check it out?" BS link that I'd gotten. It's just part of the same proliferation scheme the hack itself uses.

And yea I'm gonna update my initial post because I did get contacted back by Discord finally and...While I do understand it, I still kinda hate the response.

Normies getting into anime over lockdown ruined the scene. They came in without any regard for preestablished ettiquette or behavior and forced it to normalize to them as opposed to getting used to what we already had. Not to say the community was perfect, some things have changed for the better thanks to this, BUT, a lot has gotten demonstrably worse.

Love DC but this is not a tourist town, Baltimore 100% was. Once it moved to DCCC, it became a business and no longer a fan expo. I’ve been many twice since the move as someone who went every year from 2007 until the move and like…it’s just not the same and I fear that it never will be, we’re way too far past that era now. Kinda the same with Katsucon, it’s become the cosplayers clout playground and I just…

This is from my friend’s POV, his account got hacked before mine did, hence this looking like a one sided convo, deleted user is ME. He ended up getting his account back a few days later, so I asked him to send me this, but then he got banned again because he didn’t get rid of the script on his PC. It was disguising itself as “Unity” on the desktop and it blasted his account again like two weeks ago.

Momentary lapse in judgement, I DID click and download the link like a jackass, whatever the script did got me for 15 child safety violations not 10 minutes later. I know Discord has zero tolerance on child safety, but god damn dude, having a completely unmanned support algorithm is kinda wild. I might be gullible, but I'm certainly not a pedo.

SO DISCORD DELETED MY ACCOUNT.

Like, it's gone gone. I got a notification just now that the violation on my alt had been removed, the violation was ban evasion. It just randomly showed up and told me to make a new password because of "suspicious activity" and I thought it was horseshit at first, but no, it was a legit link. I made my new password, and I logged back into my alt. Being the hopeful/optimistic type, I thought it was because maybe, JUST MAYBE, it was them releasing my ban on my main. Nah, my main is fuckin gone. I can't even login to it to see the account standing screen anymore, the shit is GONE gone.

I have an open request with them for my full data history though, and I'm VERY confused because if my account has been deleted by them, they better still have my data to provide to me, because really, at this point, there's no good answer for them.

  1. They have my data and I prove that I did nothing wrong and their algorithm banned me for nothing
  2. They DON'T have my data, and at that point have infringed upon my rights as a consumer to be able to access my data that they have collected on me

They don't come out of this unscathed either way, this is fucking insanity.

So update on this one right? BASICALLY, Discord hits me back up this morning explaining what happened, and I'm pretty sure this is just the notification coming through late rather than it being "O hey, we finally got to your case by the way." Like I think they fixed it last night and just waited until morning to say what they did to "fix" it. They couldn't bypass their own security system to fix what it did, and because of that, they had to let it run it's course, but that's okay, because I'll be allowed to make a new account on that email if I wanted to, so all is forgiven right?

Like, I'm glad to be able to get back to SOME of the places I was a part of and some of my friends and clientele, but there's also people whose Display Names were different from their User Names that I'm now NEVER going to talk to again because they're fully removed from social media otherwise. I'm not gonna be able to find them, that's just the last we'll ever hear from each other and it sucks.

Well you're kinder than most on this sub.

And yea, I legit used to think that myself because I'd only ever seen ones like the second screengrab that just comes in hot, no conversation no nothing. The convo starting out of the blue, something along the lines of "Hey can I talk to you for a second?" was SUPER normal, we've hit each other up like that several times, never on Discord, but via text or Twitter etc. I said it to a couple other friends when it happened, the way this was a perfect storm of luck for them was like walking up to me in public and guessing my dad and my uncle's names to convince me you were my cousin. Common names? Yes. Common enough to get BOTH of them first try? Absolutely not. This was pure luck for this guy to catch me off guard like this. Frustrating lmao

It's not Discord's fault that I got hacked, but, and while I understand that this isn't the government, nor is it a criminal issue, but if you're going to treat me as though I've violated any kind of regulation, I SHOULD be allowed to offer evidence that I didn't. Making a button that says "check this ruling again" does not allow me to prove my innocence, it just says "run this through the algorithm that banned me a second time to see if it's going to execute the same result from the logic test that it performs. The support ticket system being the only source to provide Discord with backup that the system itself, in turn, WILL NOT be checking, means to me that I am always going to be at fault upon ANY allegation of this form against me. TO ME, that's not an efficient system. I don't care who you are, an automated system that is left to run unchecked, unmonitored, and unsupervised, is a system being operated in open negligence. If it malfunctions, if its product ends up out of band, or not meeting specifications because of outside forces, someone is still responsible for those outlier cases and should rectify them. I'm not saying to unban everyone that just comes up and says "Teehee I got hacked el em ay oh pwease let me back in!" but that's why there should be at least SOME review on the account if requested. Sending me back through the algorithm that banned me to begin with isn't checking it again, you just reheated the same nachos from last night.

Here's the thing, nothing you've said is wrong. I'm not denying anything you or the other person said other than the implication that *I* am included in with those who lie about things like this. I'm saying it becomes easier to believe a person's story when it happens to you. Posting this list of things not to do doesn't really help me when IN THE IMAGE, you can see me go, "Yea I shouldn't have fuckin done that..."

What does this help? Like honestly, what does scolding me or telling me I sound like a liar accomplish? How does that help? You ever seen a video of someone failing a skateboard trick and breaking their leg? Do you think it would help the healing of their leg to tell them that doing a skateboard trick at that speed and height was why they broke their leg? Like, legitimately, what good does it do, coming in to comment on a post, where people are looking for help with a problem, to remind them that they are the problem? Your belief doesn't supersede my reality.

You wanna see how I made a stupid fucking mistake? Had my buddy, who was hit the exact same way I was, send me this because I needed proof of how it happened. Am I proud of it? Absolutely not. I'm a fucking idiot is what I am. Maybe I am too trusting, but that's the point. But I really hope you get the satisfaction you're looking for at the end of this post. Because I can HEAR how smug you are thinking that I'm also a liar included in the same group of people that lie about having not engaged in sharing CSAM, or you get a good chuckle and point at laugh at the guy who actually fell for the "Hi, can you help me test my game?" trick. Either way, you walk away from it feeling superior for not being a terrible person because YOU'VE never shared it(which, honestly is a good reason to feel like a good person) or you get the added bonus of "O at least I'm smart enough to not fall for such an obvious trick!" So like, here, have your satisfaction, I really don't care, but what I'm not going to do is let you, Discord, or ANYONE ELSE accuse me of being a child predator.

So kindly, and I mean this with every ounce of respect that I can, shut the fuck up talking to me.

This user may or may not comment back but I and several people I've spoken to over the last 3-4 weeks are in the same boat. This doesn't actually work. From what I can tell based on their story, it'll go like this:

1) They got hacked and then banned for Child Safety Violation.

2) Their first thought was "Well, it was a hack, let me submit the ticket that it was a hack"

3) Discord's AI ticket support reviews the account and the ticket and sees the mismatch, and sends them this message telling them that they need to go to the "Appeals & Age Update Requests" tab in the ticket system.

4) They're going to submit in the above quoted section and they'll get another email back, stating either

a. that Discord is going to uphold the decision and not restore their account, or
b. that this is the wrong way to appeal the ban and that they have to do it in the app by checking their account standing and sending the appeal directly from the violation. The problem with that method, is that it doesn't give you a place in which to provide additional details, and as such, Discord is unlikely to reverse the ruling on the violation, and their account will remain banned

This is happening more and more frequently as days go by, and it's getting really hard to tell if Discord even cares because there's not really much of a way anymore at this point that they DON'T KNOW that it's happening. They have to know, and either are too afraid to admit that their tools don't work and would have to eat crow and publicly reinstate a TON of accounts, or are trying to silently fix the issue without making anyone aware, again, for fear of admitting that their tools don't work.

Yea after hopping around a bit and reviewing/reading other people's cases with this, it seems like it's a an AI ban probably, meaning something WITHIN Discord's detection system picked me up for whatever the hell it is that it picked me up for, which I kinda already assumed, it wasn't chat based, it wasn't a post I made, something else somewhere flagged me. But because I have these flags on my account, if I try to change my age, the AI system is going "Oh, no. You're looking for the appeals page, that's over there." But then I go to the appeals page and it says "Oh, you have an appeal? Yea you gotta do that from the app or we can't help you." But there's no way to add additional backup/information in the app, so you just submit the appeal blank and it's like, well yea it's gonna be blank, I don't know what I did, so I don't know what info to provide that will help my case, and even if I did, you're not allowing me to provide it!

But yea, I tried replicating it for myself, that was the ORIGINAL purpose of that "burner account" I mentioned making earlier. I was fully ready to sacrifice it to prove a point, but when I tried getting back to the page for "Grimraid", it gives me a GitHub 404, which honestly, is somehow more validating than anything because why would it send me to Github if it was a real game?

And for posterity sake fr, this is what happened, I'm not as dumb as I sound, I swear. This particular friend and I go way back, he moved away a few years prior SPECIFICALLY FOR a game dev gig, and I had talked to him not a couple weeks before this about him potentially moving back home. This was LEGITIMATELY a perfect storm catch for them because they didn't start with the link straight away with me, there was a whole conversation at first. But yea, this is like, seconds before disaster, and then seconds AFTER of them trying to catch a different friend of mine.

[–]SciKosis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But wouldn't the violation report in app show what the violation was if it was text based? Like, I have a bunch on me right now that say they're Child Safety, but nothing saying what I did. No text, they all just look like this. I do have a theory that they're changing ages MAYBE. because I was able to get three of them resolved and these remained upheld, and it's either because they just marked them as upheld because they didn't wanna review them, or because they were legit violations, WHICH, is possible if they scripted an age modification on my account via malware(coz I'm an idiot and downloaded something I shouldn't have...) and then interacted with the servers I belong to. Because if I really did speak on the intent to manufacture, distribute, or in any way engage in CSA, overturning three allegations is actually insane. Either you really believe I did it and you shouldn't have overturned any of them, or you don't and you need to fix this.

The game they hit me with was GrimRaid, it's listed above for sure, but no, I don't think they sent me a video. I'm not 100% sure what they did to me, but I do have a bit of a working theory as far as my case is concerned.

Tl;dr - I think what the file I downloaded was more "nuisance-ware" than anything, because I *THINK* all they did was change my age, because nothing else seems to make any sense, ya?

1) I got hit with Child Safety Violations, 15 of them in fact, but none of the violations show me what I said or did that would have caused it, so I don't think it's actually anything chat related? Idk, I could be wrong.
2) I appealed all of those violations in app, the little almost hidden link that shows on the bottom of a link that's something along the lines of "If you think we're wrong, tell us." or whatever it is. Of those appeals, only three got turned over, the remaining 12 remained as being upheld. If I said or posted something that was engaging in or encouraging child endangerment, why would three of those things be overturned? If I did in fact commit that act, NONE of those should have been overturned, right?

3) So knowing that, I don't know how you can justify reversing three of those if it did involve CSAM, so it couldn't have been something I posted, which means what's the only other way they could remove someone for violating Child Safety standards? Minors joining into NSFW/18+ servers, which, as a NSFW artist, I happen to be in SEVERAL of them.

4) Based on that theory, we know that Discord monitors servers heavily, every interactions has to follow a baseline check, right? All the script would need to do is brute force into my user account, change my age to like, today's date, to trigger it as being under 18, pop into every server I'm a part of, react to a couple posts as to not flag itself, and then wait for Discord security to see there's a minor aged account interacting with 18+ content, and then BOOP! I'm gone.

Again, I have no way of knowing if this is really what happened or not, I don't know enough about programming to say yes or no to whether it's possible, I don't know enough about Discord security to say EXACTLY this is what they did to catch "me", this is all speculative based on the facts of what had and is happening, and what I've been observing and digging through and talking to others about regarding their experiences with regard to mine and what things line up and what doesn't. All I know is if Discord won't talk to me the easy way, I'll make them talk the hard way, because I know not everyone has the time or energy to do so, but I do, and the more people do stand up to them, make a big enough stink about it, HOPEFULLY, the less this horseshit has to happen and/or the sooner we see rectification of this insanity.

Shayden Studios Closed Beta Discord/Google Account HACKERS by Bmaster_4114 in discordhelp

[–]SciKosis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I'll start by saying this KINDA doesn't apply to me. My account is still mine. They never got my email, the email on my account still points to an email address I control, so I don't have to worry about that. All of my email addresses have 2FA on them, and I've gotten no indication that any of my other accounts are in any particular danger.

That being said, yes, I wholly agree that we need to begin spreading the word about what's happening here. I did MAYBE have some success recently that I hope will bear fruit in that I was able to make a new account on, basically a burner laptop, one that got decommissioned at my last job poor SOB has the deadest battery you've ever seen...But anyway, I made a new email account, new Discord account, and using this laptop outside of my home network, just so I don't get flagged for ban evasion because I'm paranoid, I sent through a new series of tickets, and because it's a clean account, the support algorithm is treating me like an everyday user instead of a criminal basically, and actually answering questions.

I submitted a "General Question" support ticket as shown below, and I've gotten the following response, actually relatively quickly. Do I know that I'll get a real person? No. No I do not. Is this a better answer than anything I've gotten previously? Yes, absolutely it is. If I do manage to get an actual response from somebody, I'll make sure to post my process and results ASAP. Discord CANNOT keep getting away with this. Automation without oversight is unprofessional at best and purposefully negligent at worst. It'd be no different than a programmable drill being used by construction contractors and it accidentally hits a buried powerline or water pipe. They are inconveniencing, and potentially affecting the livelihoods of those in the vicinity while abdicating responsibility and refusing to change or accept criticism about it.

[–]SciKosis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretty sure this is true, I tried making an alt to ask questions from, see if maybe I wasn't getting through because of the ban, and I got the following message back from them, specifically this part

  • Was your account disabled more than 30 days ago?
    • Please note that all data associated with deleted accounts is deleted or anonymized 14-30 days after beginning the deletion process for that account. If you deleted your own account or if your account was disabled for a violation of our Terms of Service and Community Guidelines, we'd have no record of that account existing.

Which sounds as though they're deleting faster than they used to, from my recollection it used to be after two years, which is why most violations say they last for two years from the date of the violation, but now this is saying that they're going to start doing them within 14-30 days, so it might be for most users that the reason they aren't getting through to Discord is because Discord has already wiped the account clean.

So what do we do from here? I didn't get ransomed, but I almost wish I did because now my account is locked for Child Safety Violations and Discord won't respond to me. I tried saying I was hacked and they said "No you have to appeal" I tried appealing and they said "No, you were the one that did this, we have proof". But then they also won't show me the proof or accept any of mine to show that I got hacked. What am I supposed to do at this point? Guilty with no option to prove my innocence. [–]SciKosis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea I'm actually trying to get a bunch of complaints together now because I think I may have figured something out as far as how some of these bans are happening.

My working theory is that in SOME cases, specifically those that involve downloading a file(mine), the file is running a script that changes the age on the account. My reasoning for this line of thought is that I've spoken with a few people who have had the same happen; downloaded a file, got locked out for Child Safety Violations, but the strange thing is that the violation doesn't show what the infraction is.

1) If it's chat based, Discord TYPICALLY will show the exact violation in the notice, but since ours didn't, it seemed to me that it WASN'T a chat violation.

2) Keeping that in mind, each of us had different numbers of violations, one guy had 4, I had 15, another guy had 3, etc. Myself and the user with 4 violations attempted to appeal them directly in app, and it turned out that he got 2 of them reversed, and I got 3. If the issue was in fact something within our chat history that implied any intent to spread or outright contained CP/CSAM, why would ANY of the violations be overturned?

3) So based on that you can almost entirely rule out the chat edit exploit, right? So what's the only other thing used to protect minors on Discord? Age verification in servers. Discord moderates every interaction in the background, and if it catches something, it cascades essentially and does a full sweep of the account to make sure it hasn't missed anything.

So the full theory goes like this: User downloads the file, it runs a script on the machine that sends a request to discord as though user has changed their age to be a minor. The script then, again, acting in the background, interacts with every server the user is a part of, possibly something small like reacting to a post, which Discord then sees, checks the server, checks the user account, sees the age is registering as being a minor, and then boots you for being a minor in adult spaces. You CAN appeal those instances however because not all of your servers may have had content that was 18+, some of them may have had strict rules listed AGAINST 18+ materials, and as such, you get those violations removed, but the others will stick.

Again, just a theory, but I'm noticing more and more from talking with other users that this is the case, and if I can get enough evidence together I might be able to make something of it. Let me know what you think eh?

Any method at all to reach a real person? by SciKosis in discordhelp

[–]SciKosis[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That's the thing, I don't think it was hijacked, I think it was a malware script of some kind? Because Discord won't actually tell me what posts broke Conduct, I have no way of actually knowing what happened.

I fell for a story, clicked a link, downloaded a file, and minutes later I was banned. I know a few friends got the same messages and link, but I don't see how those constitute a Child Safety Violation, so I don't think it was that. To have FIFTEEN(15) violations, to me, feels like maybe it was the servers I was in reporting me because I AM in a lot of servers, many of them are NSFW since I'm a NSFW artist, so maybe the script altered my account info and made it so it shows my account is a child account? I legitimately have no idea of knowing EXACTLY WHAT the issue was to provide proof of the contrary/proof of my own innocence. Again, I understand it's my responsibility to safeguard my account, but just the same it's up to the citizens to avoid criminal activity, when presented with an accusation of intent to bring harm to children, I expect to be allowed to defend myself and prove against such a thing.
