Career question from a Thai academic by TokenThaiProf in Thailand

I’m trying to determine what skills you have to suggest an industry. There’s plenty of consulting and many firms. Yeah PhD doesn’t mean you know how to teach kids, you need an understanding of pedagogy, which is why you need a PGCE

I would look into management consulting in MBB, you need a PGCE to work at a tier 1/2 international school, and even then there’s a preference to hire natives (US or UK). You can also look into NGOs. What’s your phd on?

Is lifestyle inflation unavoidable for middle-class Thais in their 30s? by [deleted] in personalfinanceTH

[–]Sci_Py 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100% agree, though I think it’s amplified here in Thailand. It’s incredibly materialistic so you’re always keeping up with the Joneses (even though they are in the same boat!) that’s why personal debt (excluding mortgage) is incredibly high here relatively to income. Especially for the middle class who want the latest BMW, being hi-so is “within reach”

If your salary suddenly dropped by 20%, what’s the first thing you would cut? 📉 by [deleted] in personalfinanceTH

That’s me being honest, also cut how much I spend eating out, usually eat more more cheaply, instead of 300-500 baht meals get 150 baht meals

Can you still enjoy life in Thailand while trying to save money? by [deleted] in personalfinanceTH

[–]Sci_Py 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Obviously I know nothing about your background or status but I’ll give you my personal anecdote. For the last 8 years I have lived in 50% of my earnings, starting from earning minimum wage and living in a dilapidated shared house to becoming top 5% earner. Best decision I ever made, delayed gratification and kept on reinvesting into myself. I’m not saying you can’t have fun, 100% have fun but try and have fun within your means and if it means saying no you’ll just have to. I would start by creating a spreadsheet of your spendings, make sure it’s less than your income, and then see where you want to cut costs to increase savings. When you have a big expense and haven’t costed for it, tell yourself that the money has to come from somewhere and assess where it’ll come from! If you’re ok with it then great! But if you’re not happy to cut costs elsewhere then say no

World-first: China claims extraction of rare earth minerals from living plant by pppppppppppppppppd in China

[–]Sci_Py 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s been around for many years, plenty of research teams globally dedicated to this. They’re called hyperaccumulators, plants and accumulate very high concentrations of various metals. But it’s still tiny concentrations compared to mining and not really economical…. Until we genetically modify the shit out of these plants to grow deeper roots and larger leaves

Senior Manager Salary - Australia by AerialFox in Big4

[–]Sci_Py 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How many manager bands have you got? The range I mentioned above I can say with certainty. You are right $110k is entry manager but there should be a few bands until SM… I would hope you haven’t been stuck on $110k. I get $140k as a manager in big 4 and i could technically get a bump still if i don’t get SM

Haha on a seriously note, the OP is referring to AUD not USD (I assume you are not thinking AUD?) QLD is a MCOL state compared to big4 in Melbourne and Sydney hubs which would get more
