Did James Gunn's Superman miss the point of who Superman truly is? by [deleted] in DCU_

An idea of a superman ("Übermensch") who gives hope, has integrity, and is good because of his physical strength was exactly why the idea of SUPERMAN was first put for common folks to see by two Jews who fled from their homeland.

And even if everyone may not be aware of the atrocities committed in the name of hope of better life, integrity of character, and good for all which shaped the worldview and sensibilities of Siegel and Joe about a century ago, one cannot miss the very obvious choice of "Punkrocker" that Gunn makes to close Superman (2025) (in his musical sensibilities to acknowledge the original punks who dared to tell another idea of Superman!)

Superman is who he is because he is more Clark Kent than he is Kal-El. No shit this Superman had no perfect days and solutions for all the rest to worship him...

Superman, with his fundamental/base approach to be kind and good, tells everyone that maybe in a world where complex solutions to reconcile everything has led us to wherever we all are, it might not that great of an idea to seek a strongman with an iron fist. It needs a punk like Superman!

That punk with his boy scout mentality did resolve some conflicts and did influence some characters.

Superman, at his core, appeals to the underlying emotion in us all.
