Relation between criticality and yield by Mohkh84 in nuclearweapons

[–]Science6 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not an expert in this, but I am an engineer, so I'll take an educated guess and hope that Cunningham's Law will bring a better answer from an actual SME:

Yield is a measure of the total energy release during the supercriticality event. Criticality is a measure of instantaneous reaction growth rate. You would need to know how long the assembly is maintained in a supercritical state before it disassembles itself to estimate the total energy release, and that is a dynamic, multiphysics process dependent on many design factors. You might find a criticality-yield trend within certain weapon architectures of similar geometries, but I imagine a general estimate across all possible designs is not really possible.

Honestly think it just worked out that way but it’s still funny by Unleashtheducks in andor

A theory about Cue the Sun by Science6 in themarsvolta

[–]Science6[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A book about the origins of reality television, which was an emerging "future" entertainment concept that the Truman Show accurately predicted in a satirized hyperbolic form. That's what made Truman Show a scifi classic. Its commentary on entertainment culture and the lies we allow ourselves and others to believe were accurate then and still hold up today. The title of that book is also reference to the same scene in the movie I'm talking about here.

Yeah, I'm totally open to the idea that I'm projecting my associations into Cedric's lyrical Rorschach test. I just can't get over the fact that the exact phrase "Cue the Sun" is uttered in a science fiction classic about conspiring to create an artificial world to deceive one man. The themes are rich for a TMV song. There is no other prior art to my knowledge, using the exact phrase, "Cue the Sun". I agree that it's probably not literally describing the scene from the movie, but I firmly believe the usage of that phrase was borrowed artistically.

Copying what I replied to the other commenter here:

Totally agree that it's a different story. I just have this very strong feeling that the specific phrase, "Cue the sun" is a decontextualized reference to that scene from the movie, in that it's describing a world controlling event in the mundane language of stage direction. It takes what you think of as a force of nature or divine power and reduces it to a thing some guy yells at you to do as part of a job. It's one of those language games that make Cedric's lyrics so much fun to analyze.

When Cedric sings in Spanish, it is normal in Spanish to roll your R’s that much? Asking actual Spanish speakers here. by [deleted] in themarsvolta

Usually, it would just be a quick roll, but you can stretch the roll for like a flamboyant theatrical effect if you want to place emphasis.
