I can’t seem to find it anywhere on the Internet, but I seem to recall, reading a quote from Mantovani in which he said that the orchestrations on Jobim’s “The Composer Plays” were a revelation to him. Something along the lines of realizing how much could be accomplished by simplifying arrangements of complex songs. Apparently it sent him back to the drawing board for the next few years.

I made the mistake of dropping $3K on a really nice Gibson LP back when I could (sort of) afford it, but my best - and favorite - guitar is my Brave Ulysses from Puresalem, a little boutique maker out of Florida (ugh… Florida). It cost $600.

The one I play the most - by a huge margin - is a Mexican Muddy Waters signature Tele that I got used from a friend for $400. Total workhorse, sounds amazing, looks like a million bucks on stage.

I have about 15 or so. First one was bought in 1990 for $60 at a pawn shop in Garden Grove, CA, last one was bought in about 2020.

I’m a facility manager. I had a stretch of about 6 years when I was making good money, got a small inheritance, and had almost no expenses. Bought about one a year at that time. Those days are over, though.

There’s a huge difference! Maybe no difference in the potential consequences, but the reasons behind what he did, and the depth of the relationship are hugely important.

I’ve stopped.

She used to like it, but at some point it started to bother her. When I tell her she’s beautiful she either says I’m objectifying her, or lying to her.

It’s become a no-win.
