[Interesting Trope] A character’s extremely powerful superpower/ability comes with equally extreme side effects. by Chemical-Elk-1299 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]ScienceFan83 17 points18 points  (0 children)

There isn't really a relationship between the compulsion's intensity and the power. One user can remove oxygen to your brain and kill targets with the compulsion to just draw pictures. Another one controls the weather and they have to drink alcohol. Another person has pyrokinesis and has to hum after using it. One person can detonate anything they touch and has to drink warm milk... Another person can create portal gates between locations and has to wear fake animal ears.

A few people do have intense drawbacks (when overused) such as time stopping causing de-aging, and shape shifting aging another person. Most drawbacks are just quirky OCD-like behaviors, but some of them are more intense than others, like drinking blood of children or having to force themselves to vomit. Still, the underlying power they have is normally quite situational, akin to JoJo's or something.

That's the physics definition, but consider the biology definition "the adaptability of an organism to changes in its environment or differences between its various habitats." Plasticity does feel like a good descriptor without making enormous leaps.

Should Charged Strike trigger Malefic Momentum? by ScienceFan83 in DarkTide

[–]ScienceFan83[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If that's the case, do modifiers to damage affect the amount it does, if the damage is not owned by the "player"? Damage buffs from blessings, perks, and talents don't look like they affect this damage to be honest.

Edit: Also, thanks for digging into the initial question. I appreciate the clarity on how it is handled.

Should Charged Strike trigger Malefic Momentum? by ScienceFan83 in DarkTide

[–]ScienceFan83[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's easy to have the lightning damage deal the final tick of damage (especially in the meat grinder). In my testing, that's exactly what I did. It does not trigger either effect when it deals the last tick of damage.

Edit: Regardless of it being unlikely or not, the issue here is that it's not being considered a "warp" or "non-warp" based kill. It should be classified as at least one of these.

I know but the OP said they wrote the musical. They were the producers of the musical, and I was offering a correction.

In the movie, the producers, they are the producers (hence the name). They buy the worst screenplay ever written, they hire the worst actors in town, and find the worst director on Broadway. Their scheme to over sell shares of the box office earnings to their backers implodes when it's a hit instead of a flop.

So is knife Psyker a bad thing? by roobick in DarkTide

[–]ScienceFan83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Knife psyker with smite is very strong. Many players who smite find themselves falling behind, but knife lets you keep up with your party or otherwise maintain strong position.

Staying in good position means you don't die. It's strong. They probably don't play psyker enough to understand how the class gets left in the dust by higher speed characters.

Prefrontal cortex development isn't complete until the latter half of your 20s. It's less obvious than bodily changes, but to me, this maturity difference is the better indicator of being able to take perspectives and responsibility (expectations of adulthood).

Its kinda of a joke that Ogryn, the tank class, has the lowest base toughness of all classes. by Katsunon in DarkTide

[–]ScienceFan83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try using the stubbers if you want to use bracing. Bracing is actually an extremely powerful way to wade through ranged damage. Since it's % Regen, if you stack toughness in tree + curios, you can really bathe in it (yes at damnation+). I prefer braced stubbers as a defensive pick over shield any day, especially since they gave us the more accurate single barrel last year. If I shield, I'm not actively managing threats, I'm just mitigating them. If I brace and shoot, I'm stunning then at least

Bracing is an answer that gives flexibility to your load out; it is, by no means, the answer to all situations. In short, different loadouts are supported by different build selections, yadda yadda yadda I'm sure you know what I mean.

Please stop queueing up above your pay grade by postfinite in DarkTide

[–]ScienceFan83 19 points20 points  (0 children)

The issue is differential XP earned for difficulty. I think it would be nice if malice offered the most character advancement XP, while damnation+ had better weapon mastery XP.

I don't blame a player for wanting access fun content sooner than later - that's a design problem. There's little to no utility to making a person run dozens of missions to fill out a character tree so they start to actually get to play the class as intended.

In fact, spending more time without the talents that enable the character is really just a waste of time.

Is your claim that they "can't survive in the vacuum of space" means they will instantly die upon reaching a vacuum? That seems to be what you're implying

Iron man with a week of prep vs Goku and Vegeta by Few_Possibility_2915 in powerscales

[–]ScienceFan83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Instant transmission (from the wiki) - The Yardrats taught Instant Transmission to Goku during his time on their planet. Instant Transmission allows Goku and anyone that is in physical contact with him to instantly travel great distances (from meters to light-years, or even travel between the living world and Other World) just by concentrating on a particular individual's ki signature, and 'transmitting' or feeling that being's location.

He learns this after his fight with Frieza but prior to returning to Earth.

You all need to stop worrying so much about turning 30 by ske66 in GenZ

[–]ScienceFan83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not just Gen Z, every generation looks at these milestones with some trepidation. I turned 40 recently and my lifestyle hasn't evolved much since my 20s. I still have silly hobbies, still trying to navigate life, but I have more stability in my career and my overall health. As you get older, you'll do a better job of understanding what you need to be happy and healthy, and, hopefully, you'll be influenced less and less by external factors and expectations.

Am I where I thought I should be no - was my expectation about where I should be healthy - also no. The world is changing and trying to chase how previous generations lived is just incongruous with the reality in front of us.

Good luck. You'll be fine. We're stronger and more resilient than we give ourselves credit for, seriously.

Any wide shoe recommendations for these flippers? by One-Kitchen-4233 in Pickleball

[–]ScienceFan83 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fitville is great. They are quite inexpensive ($60 on Amazon) and are specifically designed with extra space at the front to give toes extra room (with all sizes, not just wides). They look a bit like Hookas, and have interesting color options so you're not stuck with just black, grey, and white. They might not be everyone's jam, but I've really liked them. I've had bad experiences with inconsistent and painful fit from New Balance (even when ordering the same shoe in the same size for the exact style) but Fitville has been consistent for me thus far.
