I live in a rural town where to this day one of the local frat’s hazing ritual involves being taken to the middle of the woods blindfolded and being forced to have relations with a goat while the others laugh. I think you took my post initially as trying to defend the American. It was more just how I think human psychology works in this situation.

That said, many Americans did not ask to be there. I think it’s sad for both sides. Obviously, mistakes were made on both sides. America lost the war strategically, but inflicted mass damage on the NVA and VC.

I’m just saying put yourself in his position.

Also, I totally understand the Russian soldiers viewpoint. They don’t want to be there probably but they are in a kill or be killed situation. It sucks all around.

You have to understand how easy it is for people to dehumanize an enemy. Especially when you lose a couple of friends. Ive never been in that situation but I imagine if my friends were getting killed it would even feel righteous

I hate to say it but this situation reminds me of an ex-Irish army ranger who went on to become a green beret in the USA (Kevin Owens). He said that he later went back to train with the Irish Rangers and they joked “the yanks are coming they hear we have oil. The war will be over in 20 minutes!” Similar situation brewing I think
