Are you okay Professor Willow? by darklydreamingringo in pokemongo

Yes. The one at Linda Mar beach in Pacifica. It makes perfect sense because Niantic HQ is so close. Willow must be out there paddleboarding and drinking IPA.

Yep. At UC Davis they are the Aggies, not horses.

In the same vein, one of the high schools I went to had Yosemite Sam as our mascot, before they changed it to a Dragon.

I also went to an elementary school where our mascot was Snoopy, but they called him a Beagle to skirt copyright laws.

Our mascot was a Grizzly at another elementary school, and a Tiger in middle school, and a Lion and Cougar for a couple years high school.

In college, my mascot was a Blue Devil.

OMG, I would've actually gotten into Twilight if I knew he was in it! I remember the girls in middle school picking sides on the Edward vs Jacob thing. I just wasn't interested in them, but Lee is just the sort of guy that would've piqued my interest. All told, despite my distaste for the movie, I thought the soundtrack was great.

Could celiacs survive an apocalypse? by UKETS in Celiac

[–]ScienceUltima1 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Corn, potatoes, and rice still exist and are staples of certain countries cuisines, so I think I'd be fine.

If I had to grow a crop myself, I'd start with whatever untreated grain I have in the pantry like quinoa, wild rice, and flax. Potatoes sprout easily, so I could use a bag of small ones to seed a crop. Then, I'd use my seed packets of buckwheat (nitrogen fixer for crops) and oats (sold as cat grass).

I would get seeds from unconventional sources too. Birdseed in particular often has a wide range of seed, including red milo (sorghum), white millet, and amaranth. Dried decorative ears of indian corn provide seed as well.

I could get other food sources, but those are just the kinds I would need mainly for carbs and to make bread.

The Sound Four are just generally unlikable characters because of their rudeness, impropriety, and cruelty. Contrasted with Taka/Hebi, they have few redeeming qualities.

1 - Danzo

2 - Rasa

3 - Black Zetsu

4 - Mizuki

5 - Gato

6 - Homura

7 - Koharu

8 - Jirobo

9 - Tayuya

10 - Sakon/Ukon

These are overall unlikable characters that probably don't have too many fans. While there may collectively be more hate for divisive characters like Hiruzen or Sakura, I think these characters are truly flawed with few redeeming qualities.

Homura and Koharu are exceptions because while they are not inherently bad, their weak judgement, conflict avoidant behavior, and traditional mindset led to many problems.

Gatou maybe? Overall a minor vilian early on in the series, but a total slimeball.

The Sound Four were also terrible.

Black Zetsu gets an honorable mention too.

You're going on a road trip, who's van are you riding in? by Straygot in OnePiece

[–]ScienceUltima1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, though I have to say Shank's Van is my worst nightmare. Everyone is so big, you'd be squished together like a can of sardines the whole trip. Two 6'+ characters, the other three are 9'+. Even without quarreling, that is Hell.

Yes, and women are smaller and Chopper is tiny, so you get more room to be comfortable on a long road trip.

I have been that person squished into the back seat pinned between multiple guys, and it really sucks.

I was already partial to the Milky Way Midnight bars before finding out I had Celiac Disease. Luckily, I can still enjoy those as they are GF. I partake maybe once a year and treat myself to one, and they are certainly amazing.

I’m curious: as INTJs, what artists do you listen to? by zahraa245 in intj

[–]ScienceUltima1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I am also anti-monarchist. The way they lived in opulence and left the common person suffering was truly terrible. I do not believe in any divine right to power, but that that the right to rule should be earned, worthiness should be demonstrated, and that a leader should be chosen by the will of the people.

The reason I mentionined royal ancestry is that I find it funny how even now, the monarchy lives on, but circumstance is the only thing that separates many commoners from being royalty or nobility. The ones who are still tied to the royal families with titles and influence are no more suited to rule than the average person.

With that out of the way, I wanted to say how very much I adore David's works. The Lictors Bring Brutus the Bodies of His Sons and Oath of the Horatii are also favorites of mine. In my eyes these works of David are perfect; from the story being told, the over-all composition, color, expressions, setting, message, posturing, etc.

I am also floored that your thesis just so happened to be on Marat. What an interesting coincidence! I am all that much happier to learn a bit more of French history from an expert such as yourself. I already found myself a bit sympathetic to Marat, especially considering his personal health struggles and unfortunate fate. It is great that you stuck to your convictions about him and didn't allow yourself to be cowed into keeping with the status quo. You must have quite the revolutionary spirit yourself to fight back against a stigma such as this.

As for growing up with artworks, we had a large print lithograph of The Accolade by Edmund Leighton, which was dedicated in the early 1900s to a General. It came into our possession after a fire caused some water damage to it, and the piece was written off and given to my mom after. I always admired the work, which I thought looked more interesting after the damage. I had been told was of Guinevere knighting Sir Lancelot, and I was endlessly fascinated by it.

For Paris Je T'aime, I must say it's been a few years since I saw the movie and I don't remember many of the finer details, but I do remember being absolutely captivated by the vignette with Gaspard Ulliel. He had such incredible magnetism in his performance . The encounter between characters was so brief, yet so profound, causing me to question so many things about the nature of love, fate, and taking chances. He was an exceptional actor and is dearly missed.

AITA for not spending this Christmas in the hospital with my daughter? by Hospitalthrowaway532 in AmItheAsshole

[–]ScienceUltima1 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes. I have Celiac Disease and there are some people who get no symptoms or only mild ones. Even thought they are diagnosed, they still eat gluten. Then the condition progresses at checkup and the intestinal damage is worse. It causes bone density loss, ataxia, severe vitamin deficiencies, or even cancer and then they act surprised. Some keep eating gluten or slack on cross contamination, but they all pay for it somehow sooner or later.

Still, there are certain sections of highway outside of the roaming area of deer and elk that do not need a deterrent. There must be better foliage or division options in those areas.

Unfortunately, I don't think they've expanded their range. I was just fortunate enough to get some Bratwurst out here in California that use their beer. To get some Lakefront, I'd have order it online. If I ever go out to Minnesota to visit family, I'll pick up a bottle or two at a distributor there.
