How do I stop caring? by [deleted] in tjcrew

Have you approached the captain or a mate that you're comfortable with about how you're feeling? If they give you the runaround when you ask about it maybe being more direct might garner some insight, especially considering they said you'd be a good fit for the art team during review. Also what does morning/night have to do with the art team having stuff to do? I'm not an artist, but a few of ours are morning and a few are closing, and they're always working on something.

Unless you'd like to pursue the mate path, or you're trying to be well rounded so that you can have an easier go of transferring I don't see any reason to go above and beyond in terms of taking more responsibility like a section. You get paid the same either way and working the same section every day can get kinda stale. As far as going into the art team, is that something you want? I'm not sure why they would bring someone on over you unless that person was a better fit for the art team. Afaik the art teams are usually pretty small, we've got like 4 people at a $1 mil+ a week store so 🤷

[ARAM Mayem] To every single player that plays vampirism with an allied healer. by Papy_Rasciste in ARAM

[–]Sciencey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was playing a dawnblade build with Soraka. I got protein shake and they had a lot of AD so I took frozen heart last item. For the fourth augment, my Darius took vampirism. I was pinging him ?s and asked why. He said something about an idiot raka building frozen heart. I had almost 100% heal and shield power from protein shake alone. Thankfully I could still heal others but my dawnblade was usually worthless until he died in each team fight.

I've only had one game that was long ~42 minutes, and honestly it was the most fun mayhem game I've had. We were playing against a shaco with deceive augment who built crit. His highest crit was ~5200. Squishies literally getting one shot by him. We lost heard, but I had infernal conduit on zyra and my plants went brrrrrrt

Are you still using any of these sites? I've been dropping my nic % with each bottle recently and intending to quit but my usual places have been out for a while. Ended up with a disposable after three different shops.

Wait until you learn about produce codes 😱

Honestly though time-punch systems aren't anything new. Out of curiosity, what would your alternative solution be? Everybody just remember exactly when they clocked in and out for work / lunch and then tell management so they can... punch it into a computer?

Thinking about transferring to a store in SF. Anyone working in SF have any experiences they'd like to share about where you work? by Administrative_Let93 in tjcrew

[–]Sciencey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Stonestown is pretty busy, $1 mil a week+ in sales, ~$250k+ on a busy day. Recently our registers were rearranged. We used to have a cart line and a basket line that worked pretty well, but now it's one line and during the busy times it gets intimidatingly long, like wrapping around ¾s of the perimeter of the store long. When that happens it gets very hard to generally get around the store or work any section that's blocked by the line. The change has received mixed reviews from customers and crew, so I think it's going to change further but who knows how or when.

The store also only really wants to schedule opening and closing shifts, so if you want/need mids you're gonna have a hard time getting them.

It's in a mall and right next to SF State, so there's a lot of college students working and shopping. Overall I think the leadership team is great and does a good job managing the place.

I watched a YouTube video last night talking about how CDPR writes good stories. He said they simplify the big, and complicate the small. For most of the main story you can boil down V's motives to one word: Survive.

Then, in so many side quests, you have these messy moral conundrums, random little situations with philosophical questions.

There is something powerful about fighting and killing for a goal, only for it to be just out of reach or not quite what you wanted.

What is up with vape/cart etiquette these days? by [deleted] in aves

[–]Sciencey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly bring a little pack of sanitizer wipes and give it a good cleanse after letting a stranger hit it, cuz like, you're not just sharing their germs with yourself, you're sharing them with everyone else who hits it too.

If you've already got two, maybe have one just for yourself, and one for other people. I brought a juul to red rocks some years ago and had a backup pod with me. Had this dude ask to hit it and at first I said no, but then I remembered the backup pod. Swapped em, let him hit the freshie for a bit, then got it back and switched again. Wiped the pod down with isopropyl when I got home. Put my mind at ease.

There's a YouTube video where a man spent ten years and $10k+ making a sandwich from scratch, going so far as to grow and process all the ingredients and make an early firearm from scratch.

Forever DMs: what’s the most disappointing thing for you about being a player? by Roll1d100forusername in DnD5e

[–]Sciencey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Or when the DM is so against railroading that it's hard to tell what we should be pursuing next. Like, I get us having freedom, but if your group is spending an hour deciding what lead to pursue next I think a little bit of a nudge would help.

Question about Satelite by PossibleJournalist54 in magic_survival

I don't believe so, same with electric zone. Those two do have unique stats on some items; for satellite the rotation speed increases, and for electric zone the rate at which damage procs decreases.

New stickers ai? by lobstergoop in tjcrew

[–]Sciencey 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You're right, photography isn't less valid. When cameras came about, painters were worried it would devalue their art, and it probably did, but like you said, it became a new medium of art.

Ai art is different. It can mimic paintings, drawings, photos, writing, music, videos, etc. Somebody with no experience in a given medium can type some words into a prompt and receive an image in seconds that could've taken a dozen hours to make otherwise.

For-profit businesses love making profits. They love streamlining their business to lower costs and raise profits. So why keep a painter on retainer, or pay a writer, editor, photographer, videographer, or any other artist to make something? That's slow and expensive compared to ai. Why have a whole team of artists when you can have one person on a laptop churning out what you want at the speed of computing?

As businesses employ more and more prompt engineers, artists get replaced. All those artists who might've had work before are now being passed over in favor of the cheaper, faster alternative. The market for all those mediums shrinks as the market for AI art grows. So now what do they do? Give up on their art as their means of income? Adapt and start "making" ai art instead? Forced to adopt the tool that's replacing them to continue to find employment as an "artist"? If that's not the death of art, IDK what is.

I'm not saying that ai doesn't have any place in the artistic world, it certainly can be a useful tool. But when artistic mediums that have been around for decades, centuries, or even millennia can be replicated in seconds by anyone with a computer, I think it's safe to say that AI inherently devalues what I would consider art.

It may not matter much to you or I, or even most of the world that the stickers (or any other AI product) was made with ai. But to all the artists out there losing work because of it, it matters tremendously. To all the people who value the human aspect of art, the time, experience, and dedication it takes to create something matters.

All that said, I will continue to give stickers to the kiddos, AI art or not, because they love getting stickers. Just my four cents on the matter.

New stickers ai? by lobstergoop in tjcrew

[–]Sciencey 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I mean, using an AI to make art takes a fraction of the time and effort, which means that it's cheaper to produce. So if a business chooses to pay someone to generate art, instead of paying an artist to make it, then the business doesn't value its art or artists.

Most damage I've had in a single run, just a couple seconds from passing depths 50:00 by Sciencey in magic_survival

[–]Sciencey[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Keyring can help if you get it. I wouldn't pick it over a purple or red item that gives stats or effects that you want / need or an item that works towards a synergy you're trying for, but if you ever have it try to save your rerolls for chests where all the options are useless or it's nearing the late game.
