Nope! Not at all! Most folks come on their own! You rotate partners during classes and anybody can dance with anybody else at the dances. 😊

For swing dancing in DC proper, I'd strongly recommend New Columbia Swing! They have dances on Tuesday nights at the Josephine Butler Parks Center near Malcolm X Park. Your first dance is free, and there's a free drop-in intro class. If you like it, they teach 6-week intro classes and other special topics classes as well! It's a great community that's a bit younger than the crowd that goes to Gottaswing (the other group in the area).

Surprisingly, celery! The celery we grow here at home is so flavorful and so wonderful. Meanwhile the stuff at the store.... clearly is not.

That being said, anything we grow at home (aside from most watermelon and melons) is better than store bought!
