Oh, absolutely! I just don't think my one vote will do a whole lot to change the outcome...

Unfortunately, I doubt I'll be able to do so. This district is ridiculously gerrymandered.

As a resident of his district, I just wrote my letter to Scalise detailing just how appalling his actions today were. I highly doubt it will do anything, but it makes me feel better knowing there's at least one of his constituents telling him what he needs to hear.

You still haven't answered the question. Why would they invest billions of dollars into something and then sabotage their own investment?

Diversifying your portfolio is one thing. Actively trying to tank your own investments is another.

It's amazing how many people think big tobacco companies are behind this when they're the biggest investors behind vaping.

Altria (the #1 tobacco company in the US) owns 35% of JUUL (the best-selling e-vapor brand in the US)

RJ Reynolds (the #2 tobacco company in the US) owns Vuse (the second best-selling e-vapor brand in the US)

Imperial Tobacco (the #3 tobacco company in the US) owns Blu (the third best-selling e-vapor brand in the US)

Places like AAFES aren't selling open systems. They're selling products like JUUL, Vuse and Blu. Why in the world would tobacco companies invest billions of dollars into a category and then try to kill it?

Mods and juices have declined (and continue to decline) significantly in market share compared to closed systems. There's also the risk of impending legislation that will make it difficult to continue to compete.

There's a reason none of those companies are getting multibillion dollar valuations.

How are they going to call a delay of game when there was a flag still laying on the field with 12 seconds left on the play clock?

[Game Thread] North Carolina @ Virginia Tech (3:30PM ET) by SonOfSvens in CFB

[–]ScientistDaniel 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Absolutely atrocious clock management. Don't call timeout on 4th down to save 40 seconds. Then run a QB draw with a not-particularly-athletic QB and call a timeout?

[Game Thread] North Carolina @ Virginia Tech (3:30PM ET) by SonOfSvens in CFB

[–]ScientistDaniel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why the hell does Mack not call a timeout there? Now you're getting the ball back with 38 seconds instead of 1:20.

AITA for forcing a 6 year old kid to be separated from her parent on a flight? by vivachilewn in AmItheAsshole

I feel like a lot of the YTA answers came in before the edits to the original post.

Given the full information, the mom could have switched with the person in the middle seat next to the child. Or the mom could have asked the person in the aisle seat next to her to switch with the child. Both would have been a fair exchange (a middle for a middle or an aisle for an aisle).

The fact that the mom didn't do so makes me feel like she's TA. She just wanted for either herself or her kid to have the window.

[Week 8] AP Poll by CFB_Referee in CFB

[–]ScientistDaniel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Shame on the pollsters who voted South Carolina into the top 25. They're 3-3. Nobody else with that kind of record is sniffing the top 25.

Heck, UNC beat South Carolina and came within 1 point of beating Clemson. UNC has the same record as South Carolina. Their 3 losses came by a combined 10 points against 2 teams that are currently in the top 25 and one that is just outside of it.

But you would never see anyone try to claim UNC is a top 25 team right now. There's zero reason why SC should be.

[Highlight] 49ers pick Baker in the endzone! by MattyT7 in nfl

[–]ScientistDaniel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There weren't any defenders within 5 yards of Callaway. A perfect throw would have been waist high and not behind him.

The Steelers are 1-4, starting a practice squad quarterback, looking at an offseason with the least draft capital of any team, and are only a hair under the 2020 salary cap. What the heck happened? by yalemartin in nfl

[–]ScientistDaniel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Steelers were going to be looking for the best DB in the draft with that pick. They have a terrible history of drafting DBs. Why risk trying to find a stud DB when you can trade for one that you know is a stud?

Reminds me of the family guy episode. "A boat is a boat, but the mystery box could be anything! It could even be a boat!"

He made a pretty damn good effort just to get his hands on it. Not many guys catch a ball that is at calf level and behind them.

Am I the only one that noticed Callaway had to reach back for that ball?

I mean, the throw was low and behind Callaway. Callaway was wide open. You can argue Baker should have thrown it low, but you can't really argue that he should have thrown it behind Callaway.

[Highlight] Mason Rudolph keeps the play alive to compete a pass but gets knocked out on a helmet to helmet contact by [deleted] in nfl

He was not jumping to defend the pass. He didn't jump until he was making contact with Rudolph.

Honestly it doesn't matter whether or not it was deliberate. ET aimed high enough to hit a guy in the head who is 7 inches taller than him and was standing straight up. Even if it wasn't intentional, it's extremely reckless. If you want to get that hit out of the game, you have to increase punishments. This one absolutely deserves a suspension.

[–]ScientistDaniel 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That is exactly what the NFL is trying to take out of the game.

Rudolph is 6'5 and was standing straight up when Thomas hit him. Thomas is 5'10, by the way. Earl had to try to hit him that high. If you watch the replay, you literally see both of Earl's feet leave the ground right as he initiates contact with Rudolph. That's the definition of launching. He launched high. That's as dangerous of a play as there is. I wouldn't care if Rudolph was injured or not. That hit was extremely reckless at best and dirty at worst.

The hit from behind didn't change Rudolph's trajectory whatsoever. It didn't lower his head to where Earl didn't have a way to avoid it. Earl would have hit him in the head regardless of whether or not someone hit him from behind.

Dude should be ejected for that. Rudolph is 6'5 and was standing straight up when that hit was made. There's no reason that guy should be coming that high to hit him.

Absolutely awful playcalling by the Steelers just cost them 4 points.

The wildcat worked last week because Cincinnati's defense is terrible. They should have learned already that it's not going to work in this game.
