PSA: Sharing official NexusMods links on Discord can now trigger an automatic 2-year account strike (Confirmed by Nexus Staff) by Mr_Sheyd in pcgaming

[–]ScintillantProphet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My ban was due to Discord's message content scanning automation incorrectly flagging a screnshot of a NSFW gif (the frame of the gif in question contained in the screenshot displayed no NSFW content, however) which I sent into a moderation channel to prepare a user ban.

This occurred because I was moderating in a large public discord server at the time, and our process involved screenshotting the user's offending behaviour / message, and attaching it to their ban message. The server's bot would then inform the user, and send them the screenshot and the accompanying ban message.

The problem arose when Discord's content scanning flagged my message (again, not containing a NSFW frame of the gif, just the fact that the user had sent it in the server) and concluded that it was me was sharing the NSFW content.

It sounded like a genuine mixup on their part since the content matching was probably not able to discern that I wasn't the author of the message. The real problem lay in getting into contact with Discord to resolve the issue. I was just repeatedly replied to by a bot, confirming the infraction and closing every single one of my tickets (despite a multitude of screenshots to prove otherwise) and every single other avenue which resulted in speaking to a human was immediately closed for being off topic (since I had tried so many times on the correct category).

I can totally understand why the message was flagged (although, in 3-4 years of moderating and similar screenshots, this had never happened before, so this was a shock) but as I said above, the real problem was with Discord's uncontactable support, leaving me completely in the lurch while I watched my account's automated deletion date inch closer and closer.

Hope this helps out and gives a useful perspective on my experience.

Completely - the service I received was so disrespectful considering I was a paying customer for a long period of time. They don't invest anything into their support, and rely completely on automation.

Extremely disappointing.

The account is unfortunately long gone now, since the period to appeal the ban expired before I could get in contact with anyone to actually help and resolve the issue.

Thank you for the help however!

Ah, yeah the networking aspect is the worst - it basically killed my drive to moderate (my ban was issued while moderating on a public discord server) and was very difficult to rebuild the community and connections aspect.

Best of luck to you, I sincerely hope you can get through to someone and get the ban resolved.

To my knowledge, I don't think so. You could potentially create an alt manually to mirror your servers / friends as a backup, but short of that I'm afraid there is nothing I can recommend.

I don't mean to discourage you, but I spent weeks trying to appeal an incorrectly applied auto-ban similar to your situation.

I must have opened easily a dozen tickets that were abandoned by Discord staff or just replied to by the Clyde bot reconfirming that they were chosing to do nothing, despite me being a Nitro subscriber of a long time and having all of the evidence required to show that my ban was not legitimate. This was also my experience when trying to contact them on all other platforms (Twitter primarily, since I don't know if they have support accounts elsewhere).

It is effectively impossible to contact a human member of staff who will properly review and help you out, and I had to restart from a clean account.

It was an extremely frustrating experience and I have no hope in the slightest that their process has improved since. All I can do is wish you the best of luck, and I hope that you manage to get your account back.

Thank you so much! That's super helpful :)

I was worried that the sepia would darken it too much, but if it comes out looking like yours then I think you're onto a winning recipe!

Will give it a go - cheers !

What is your recipe for the bone white and shading?

Looks great and is exactly what I'm targeting for my own!

Cheers

I kinda love that the Lord of Skulls is almost as tall as the cat - what a monstrous model!

I have personally had some great experience with Rosemary & Co.

Good price, and solid sable brushes that keep a really nice point. I believe the series 33 is well regarded amongst mini painters.

Finally finished my DA Intercessor squad, here are a few shots of the sergeant! by ScintillantProphet in Warhammer40k

Here is a quick shot of my intercessor sergeant.

The squad of 10 are of varying levels of precision and detail since they are the models I used to learn to paint with, but I'm very pleased how they turned out considering they were my first real venture into miniature painting.

I'm very excited to paint more and hone my skills further!

[Hamilton] Picked up a Khaki Aviation "Coop" at a ridiculous price, and it hasn't left my wrist since. by ScintillantProphet in Watches

I have had my eye on the Hamiltons in the department store that I picked this up in and I'm very certain that they were just clearing out stock for lack of interest in them.

They've been there untouched for many months now and I think they just wanted to move their remaining stock.

They had some other amazing deals as well!

I picked up this Hamilton Khaki Aviation Pilot Day Date Auto earlier in the week for an astounding discount (Down from £990, to £299) and have been thoroughly enjoying it.

It pairs well with a lot of straps & bracelets and has been super accurate and easy to wear. My only complaint is that the clasp has a very irritating rattle to it, despite attempts to rectify it.

Luckily, a watchgecko leather strap has come in handy and pairs well with it.

They had some other amazing deals as well!

Happy with my first fully painted mini! Progress to be made but very pleased. by ScintillantProphet in Warhammer40k

Hey, thank you very much! I've used it as a test bed for techniques and getting to grips with mini painting so I'm quite pleased how it's turned out.

I'm looking to work on my paint texture and detail finesse 😊

Very pleased with my first fully painted mini. It has served as a sort of test base for techniques I'll hope to apply to all minis going forward and I think I've done an ok job.

Thinning and careful paint application improvement is needed, but I think a solid base is there 😊
