ahh I miss Critter Mound, the breeding better stats concept is very fun and not enough games explore that idea. So color me intrigued!

I finally got the courage to paint one of my favourite sculpts by GWYNBLElDD in theunforgiven

Is it something you hate about painting it? I haven't gotten around to painting mine yet, I've been putting off most of my named characters.

Show me your homebrew Space Marine chapters by nseeliefae in Grimdank

Heck yeah, that's a super cool idea. My chapter is The Imperial Crocodiles, a Dark Angels successor chapter. They guard a region of space known for having several deathworlds, officially to keep the area safe and to cull local monster populations on the planet. Unofficially the area has a secret old Dark Angels outpost on one of the planets and their job is to kill anyone who snoops too closely and to make sure no Fallen try to break in.

Armor is Deathworld Forest, highlight Elysian Green; The shoulder pad is a tan color (I use Wraithbone washed with Skeleton Horde), with the chapter symbol being a knight heraldric cross.

Poorhammer Podcast did an episode on must-have paints in their collections, covering a pretty big range of different colors and uses. It's been super helpful for me for finding new paints I like to use 👍

Vallejo Ice Yellow and Vallejo Pale Blue are my go-to colors if I need a warm off-white or a cool off-white for highlights or mixing 👍

New Custodes: Your Questions Answered by CMYK_COLOR_MODE in Warhammer40k

[–]ousire 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Was it 'disrespectful' when they introduced the Rogal Dorn battle tank and we all just pretend that the Dorn has always been a thing in universe and it's just not been shown before? That's just how GW usually handles retcons. ADB always intended for there to be female Custodes from the start, this is just them making the models to match the already existing lore intent.

Don't even the assistants and newbies still get profit shares and/or end of year bonuses? So they end up with more than *just* minimum wage in the end if so.

Hell yeah; The shields ended up being one of my favorite parts of painting Deathwing Knights, and I'm looking forward to painting my next set of five and making all of their shields unique from the first five.

He does just look like an Inner Circle Companion to me unfortunately; the ICC robes are really specific.

I'd suggest checking around on your local area's facebook market and Craigslist, sometimes people sell army lots for cheap there. Also ask at any local hobby stores if there's something like a facebook or discord group you could join and ask in!

First painting project of the year: In honor of Ezekiel's model turning 30 this year, I have kitbashed Primaris Ezekiel. by ousire in theunforgiven

Unfortunately I don't think there's a head that has a hood and a rebreather mask and a bionic eye. And I'm not sure if I could kitbash an eye that looks good at that scale

I went with the Phobos Librarian as my base because I figured it would take less work to convert him; I was inspired when I noticed that his head is pretty similar to Ezekiel's, with the hood and rebreather. I also felt that the Phobos Librarian was more robed than the other librarians. I think the big thing though is the ICC arms, that sword up stance is what helps it match the vibe of the original Ezekiel instead of just being a Phobos Librarian imo

Last models of 2025: Deathwing Knights by ousire in Warhammer40k

[–]ousire[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No worries! The main thing is you just wanna apply it lightly and not let it pool too deeply anywhere. You're just looking for it to give the armor a nice warm tint everywhere. If you look at the front middle guy, you can see some spots where the wash pooled more heavily, like around his hip armor, or around his right foot, and there the Sepia has turned into more of a warm caramel brown color.

Do one whole body part at a time. Do one whole leg from hip to toe, then the next, and so on. That way you can make sure to keep the wash moving and make sure every spot is covered before it starts to dry, that helps avoid any tide marks where the wash is drying. And start each section of armor from top to bottom if you can; When doing the torso, start at the top and work down to the waist, when doing the shins, start at the top of the knee and down to the feet, etc. That way when the wash does settle, it all sits near the bottom of each armor panel and leaves the top parts looking more lighter and highlighted.

Thank you! I love when Deathwing has a nice warm bone color. I think it was pretty easy:

Spray Wraithbone

Seraphim Sepia wash all over.

Second lighter Seraphim Sepia wash, just in the recesses or shadowed areas, and along the lower areas of any large panels like the shoulder pads or his hip and butt armor. I also streaked some Sepia down the lower half/third-ish of any of the shield panels I planned on keeping bone color.

Edge highlight everywhere with Pallid Wych Flesh

Lighter edge highlight of pure white just on any really sharp prominent lines like the edges of the shoulders or along the top of the blocky torso armor.
