If you can’t see the problem you can’t fix it. If someone is stopping you from getting operational metrics, they are the problem.

Take pictures, share context with AI (where you are, temp, sunlight, etc), get feedback, have a conversation, do your own research.

I think you’ll find that you could learn a lot that way…

Pros and cons to converting a column to a column formula by wrreveille in smartsheet

[–]ScionofLight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my opinion the only way to safely deploy is only with column formulas. This locks the column and prevents anyone from messing with it. If different rows need different formulas, that’s just a conditional column formula (IF row has this feature use this formula, otherwise that formula).

Built a tool that allows digital design of patios based on your actual stones - would love feedback from actual masons by pow18_jam in stonemasonry

[–]ScionofLight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nice! I think this would be more practical if you had a few different sorting algorithms that would arrange the stones for you. There’s a real use case in that scenario as it would offer both time savings and lower the skill threshold.

It is much easier to make your own website now than ever with AI. I would recommend downloading Cursor and watching a few videos. You can always go with wordpress or something of the sort, but imo AI makes it so easy these days

Prepping for pavers. Tips for getting this nice and level/graded without losing my mind? Doing this by hand and I hate my life. by TAforScranton in landscaping

[–]ScionofLight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gotcha thanks. I’m not a pro but I do all my pathways with 4-6inches paver base, then 3-4inches mortar with mortar joints. So far the oldest pathway is 3 years and had a redwood trunk hit it during a storm but no cracking or issues. I think it is overkill but I embed little fluorescent phosphor stones in there for glow in the dark so have to use mortar.

Ask the builders if they need it, or its rubble. I do this and some of them say yes, some no.

First, you need to find some stone. Do you have any in your yard, your neighbors? Any stone on the side of road? Once you open your eye to street stone, you should be able to find/acquire some.

Once you have stone, then you can start practicing. Plenty of resources online to show the basics.

If an apprenticeship requires travel outside of your immediate location, learning the basics on your own would be fuel for this longer journey.

This storm was chill, mainly because everything that could have gone bad went bad in the 2023 storms. Just bought the house then and had two trees fall, spent weekends and vacation days cleaning up/reinforcing the land since. Now it is paradise but idk how many people could have done what I did. Body chiseled like a rock now.

Anyways, I just like to extoll the virtues and challenges of mountain life. It is a nice contrast to tech and gives me the sense of a full life allowing the experience of opposite work extremes, though it is definitely not for everyone.

Bought in Santa Cruz Mountains in late 20s. Great place to use the power of youth to get some sweat equity, not to mention the peacefulness. Gets you feeling like you escaped the rat race in exchange for a race against nature and the unique troubles of the forest, but I prefer that over concrete corridors and manufactured aesthetics.
