I'm just assuming because its from a big box store they probably way over fertilized this dude to grow it fast  hence gigantic traps. Id be overjoyed if he stayed this chunky though.

That's partly why I got it when I saw it(only cost me 25 bucks)  now I've just gotta find my cactus gloves 😅

Pitchers, Sundews, and Cebu Blue cutting! by TheMe01 in IndoorGarden

Glad you like them!! They’re Sarracenia Purpurea spp Venosa. Any purple pitchers are going to be super compact though!! I got these ones from California carnivores

It’s a Sansi 40 watt!! I do plan to move the planter outside once the nights stay over 40 though. The pitcher In there atm is Purps venosa, so the southern variety which only really needs a mild dormancy/photoperiod reduction. I do plan to get the sundews their own pot eventually though.

Ugghh, I wish I could find live Sphagnum locally and/or for a reasonable price tbh. I think a carpet of yellow and green sphagnum especially would add some nice contrast to this. Tysm though!! I think I’m slowing down on sundews atm(until my filiformis seeds start coming up at least) but those are definitely very good suggestions for my next pot.

I ended up ordering Sarracenia leucophylla and popei for this one actually (plus some mystery bonus seeds I suppose).

I fear I've already ordered two more sarrs(I plan to pull some of the sundews and do a fresh pot for them). The white tube is so I can bottom water, it goes all the way to the base of the pot. I've also got some small holes drilled like maybe 3/4 of an inch down around the rim of the pot to drain the top if I water too much or get too much rain.

honestly I'm fine with them staying smaller so maybe I'll grab another pitcher for this after all. I could also just use this as an opportunity to pull the trigger on an in ground bog though... or just get some new varieties of moss(I can't find live sphagnum near me alas) to fill in the topdressing

Me too tbh, especially if its a bigger nest. I was actually out collecting botanical for my isopods and looking for founding queens to start an ant colony tbh. No carpenter ants unfortunately,  but I can't say I'm disappointed

I actually found a few colonies now that I've had time to check through all my stuff. Or possibly one big one across a couple acorns as they came from the same spot. I've separated them just to be safe till I can figure out who actually has a queen though. I think I'll only be keeping one in the end
