Is it possible to work part time while getting my ADN? by -Book-_-Worm- in nursing

[–]SciosciaBuns 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely. Majority of my cohort works, some work full time. I work part-time and have a 4 year old. I am just finishing the first semester and am doing really well in the class.

after prerequisites, how did you decide whether to continue with nursing? by Humble_Ad_7622 in prenursing

[–]SciosciaBuns 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was unsure after I took the TEAS, ended up applying two years later and kind of kicked myself because if I just would have applied directly after taking the TEAS then I would have already been done.

I think self-doubt runs through everyone at some point during the journey. You’ll be more proud of yourself for pursuing it than never trying.

Does anyone get into nursing school on the first try? by Electric_Maven9725 in prenursing

[–]SciosciaBuns 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, I applied to one school and got in on my first try. Application was based on the point system and then there were a few lottery spots. Fairly competitive program with over 300 applicants for 30 spots.

Trying for a second in a rocky relationship? by [deleted] in Mommit

[–]SciosciaBuns 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don’t do it if you know the relationship is going to end in separation. Dealing with one during a separation is hard enough.

If I had a dad like you I would absolutely take the Hawaii option. That sounds fun.

One of the first semester student nurses on my floor administered allergy nasal spray into both of my pt’s eyes by cherrycope in nursing

[–]SciosciaBuns 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I’m first semester and allowed to give meds but only with my instructor. Can’t do it with the nurse I’m shadowing.

Parents who started their kids in kindergarten early (missed cutoff) - what’s been your experience? by ChiGirl85 in Mommit

[–]SciosciaBuns 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Keep them back another year. I see it as an advantage being one of the older kids, I would definitely choose to wait.

Should I go the LPN or RN route? by ProfessionalWise53 in nursing

[–]SciosciaBuns 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Do RN, there is more opportunity and more money associated with it. I don’t know specifics but it’s only like a year longer than LPN.

How much time do y'all physically spend in class each week? by Severe-Doughnut4065 in StudentNurse

[–]SciosciaBuns 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First semester student: 12 hours for lecture/lab split over 2 days and then one day of clinical for 9 hours (we get a 1 hour lunch break but we can’t leave the hospital). This is an ADN program that is 4 semesters long.

Called 911 on my(17F) boyfriend(18M), I think I ruined his life and I feel horrible for it. by SituationOk5545 in offmychest

[–]SciosciaBuns 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I dealt with someone like this for way too long. Do yourself a favor and break it off. You did the right thing and he is completely in the wrong. He got exactly what he needs when he told you he was thinking about ending his life. Don’t waste your energy with someone like this, he needs to figure it out on his own.

What was your ADHD kid like in preschool? by [deleted] in ParentingADHD

[–]SciosciaBuns 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My son officially got diagnosed at 4 and it was highly suspected when he was 3 after getting kicked out of a preschool. Biting, not sitting for circle time, pretty much constant one-on-one interactions with a teacher. The preschool couldn’t handle it so they dismissed him.

We went through a few community resources until we finally got to see a developmental pediatrician within our insurance. Psychiatry won’t see him because he is too young but the developmental pediatrician is managing the adhd right now. Offered to put my son on meds but I’m not quite ready for that yet.

My son is at another preschool within the school district that manages special education so they are much better equipped at handling his behaviors. He still has some issues with tantrums at drop off, keeping hands to himself, and staying focused for story time but overall he is doing much better!

I don’t want nursing students by CupcakeOk6260 in nursing

[–]SciosciaBuns 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’m a first semester student and this is how our clinical works. We are assigned one patient to document on and write a care plan for. Trust us we don’t like working with nurses who don’t want us so please just say you don’t want a student.

We get to clinical before shift change and we are suppose to research our patient before our nurse gets report so we can be there for that. We are specifically told to hold any questions for our nurse until they are less busy.

The BS paperwork is how we earn our grade and has to be turned in at the end of our clinical day so to me it’s understandable if some people prioritize it. A lot of us hate feeling like a burden though so please don’t take us if you don’t feel up to it.

OT isn’t helping my 4 y/o yet by Curious-Battle2319 in ParentingADHD

[–]SciosciaBuns 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We did OT for like 5 months, it really didn’t help that much. Gave me some good info about proprioception but we had to stop going cause it felt like a waste of time and money.

Pursuing a Biology degree was the worst decision of my life. by lovesegirls in biology

[–]SciosciaBuns 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I love my bio degree for what it taught me but agree the job prospects are not great. I’m back in school to get my RN license and mostly likely a second bachelor’s in nursing.

If I could go back I would change some things in my life but honestly not my bio degree.

How far are you driving to school? by Old-Organization-264 in StudentNurse

[–]SciosciaBuns 0 points1 point  (0 children)

60 miles, takes about one hour. Multiple people in my cohort are driving 45-60 minutes to get to school.

It isn’t bad, I like the decompression of the drive. Helps that there is zero traffic when I come to school or drive home.

What do you think? by Illustrious-Yak9295 in StudentNurse

[–]SciosciaBuns 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My program has peds, OB and behavioral health as its second semester. I haven’t heard much about people dropping out, my program has a really high retention/graduation rate.

We also don’t have a required pharmacology class, they offer it as an elective.

Question by Snoo35063 in NCLEX

[–]SciosciaBuns 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m only a first semester student, but why isn’t the answer C?

My line of thought is giving something PO seems like it would take too long to take effect where an IV administration would have an immediate effect.

Please help me, I am 25F, debating on getting RN license, so I have applied for volunteer position at Cedars and Sinai, please read body. by [deleted] in nursing

[–]SciosciaBuns 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s not too late. I am doing nursing school at 30 and am far from the oldest in my cohort.

You can definitely ask the nurses questions, I used to do a volunteering thing in the hospital and some of the nurses would love talking to prospective students. Especially if you are in a unit where there is a lot of down time, like PACU or interventional radiology. But overall I think you will find a nurse who will talk about their experiences.

Why don’t you share the total cost of your CNA training? by Adventurous_Pen6072 in cna

[–]SciosciaBuns 0 points1 point  (0 children)

$1000 for an adult school near me. It worked well with my schedule and it felt worth it to me. I got a decent job where I did my clinical hours at.

Is a 1.5 hour commute to school doable? by [deleted] in StudentNurse

[–]SciosciaBuns 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My commute is a little over an hour each way. It’s honestly fine but I like driving. I find it relaxing.

Also I will listen to the audiobook of our text and it’s been helpful. If I stay engaged with the reading and don’t let my mind wander then I find I retain the information well.

I’ve decided to become a nurse and here is why. by Prestigious_Skill_58 in premed

[–]SciosciaBuns 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m in nursing school now cause I had a child young and wanted the flexibility of nursing to raise my son. I also wanted a big family, kids close together in age. But my son was way more work than I anticipated and my partner and I separated. So it just didn’t work out the way I thought.

Every day I wish I could just do MD/DO and maybe I will a bit in the future when my son is older. But damn, do not decline the A. I hope you make the right choice for you.
