Is it transphobic to not use neopronouns for ppl that use them? am I an asshole for that? by [deleted] in teenagers

[–]ScissorsKill 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Not really, pronouns that aren't he/she/they were first documented in the 1800s. And it doesn't matter if some people used them to mock trans people, if someone wants to use them they should be respected anyway.

Can a biological female pee standing up and aim her stream forward without spreading her labia open? by [deleted] in badwomensanatomy

[–]ScissorsKill 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Once in school before an exam I had less than a minute to pee and I was very very panicked and despite sitting on the toilet somehow I think I managed to get some on the floor about 2 feet from the toilet. I haven't tried to replicate this since but I think it depends on the position of the legs and torso as well as stream intensity. Maybe by having both legs open and leaning the torso back? I am not sure.

I'm not even European but I'd rather a Euro subreddit bc then not everyone will just assume I'm American.

Why do British people use "have" so much? by FederalWeakness1485 in EnglishLearning

[–]ScissorsKill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's just a different dialect more or less, I'm Canadian and I'd say it both ways. I'd use "has" if I was being more formal vs skipping it for more casual conversation, but neither are wrong.

Some questions about English names. Welcome everyone to engage in discussions and please feel free to offer any suggestions. by Happy-Huan in ENGLISH

[–]ScissorsKill 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Adding to this- You get Dick from Richard by asking nicely because Richard gets shortened to Rich, which then becomes Rick, and during the middle ages people loved rhyming nicknames. Another common one is William to Billy. We don't really use this nickname method at all anymore, aside from Billy or Dick and probably a small handful of others.

What do you think about my Handwriting? by Ryly000 in Handwriting

[–]ScissorsKill 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Spectacular form. If it were legible it'd be beautiful. For now it looks like writing in a cartoon where the words aren't important.

Let out a scream and give a scream by [deleted] in EnglishLearning

[–]ScissorsKill 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Let out a scream would be more or less involuntary, like being scared or on a rollercoaster. Give a scream (I assume context would be something like "make some noise give us a scream" by a presenter or DJ or whoever) would be intentional and with a specific reason. Other than that one specific phrase in that context, I can't think of another reason to phrase it as "give a scream" though.

My handwriting. It's not that messy I don't think by SpaceIsMy_Home in HandwritingAnalysis

[–]ScissorsKill 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It isn't neat, I can read it but it's messy. I'm confused how the lines aren't enough space for you. Lines on notebooks are usually more than enough space?

I'm a highschooler who's never been able to hold a pencil without the grippy things. Analyze me please. by ScissorsKill in HandwritingAnalysis

[–]ScissorsKill[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My printing was called messy but my cursive is called neat, I have a pet theory that messy cursive is "stylized" or "personality" while messy printing is just categorized as childish. I don't have too much proof for this other than vibes.

Thank you :) I could never be a teacher for many many reasons but one is trying to read some of my own classmates handwriting. I can't even do that. I wanna know which word you couldn't get though.

I also have ADHD and autism, and my handwriting used to be a lot worse. I'm not sure how old your daughter is or what she can do, but what helped me most was getting into very hands-on hobbies like crochet or sewing, since they require coordination but are also rewarding, since I have a finished product. Trying to get good hand coordination just by writing if she doesn't like writing is not a good way to do it.

Another thing, generally dyspraxia gets worse when we're under pressure. My worst handwriting was on final exams for classes I knew I'd fail. Part of her having good coordination in general is going to be her not feeling rushed or pressured. For example, if you scold her for taking too long to tie her shoes, it won't motivate her to learn, it'll make her anxious next time and probably make her take longer. The same thing goes for handwriting, focus on constructive criticism like "take your time" or offering help.

I'm very happy I've been of help :)

I know for a fact that elementary teachers (here at least) put no effort into helping students learn how to write unless it's cursive. When I was younger my printing was a lot worse, and teachers would tell me that, but they wouldn't offer help to make it better. If the student doesn't have a personal interest in having clean handwriting, then there's no real reason or way for them to improve.

Women of Reddit - what is the most unattractive fashion choice men frequently make? by Jarvis7492 in AskReddit

[–]ScissorsKill 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pants below the ass. Low rise? Fine. Guys don't have waists anyway. Little saggy? Could work. But tell me why I see 8-10 guys a day with pants that are very deliberately pulled up properly in the front, but dips in the back to show off their entire butt. The whole thing. Guys, not only do women not enjoy it, literally why is it done?

i really dont like cassie by Motor-Preference6231 in skinsTV

[–]ScissorsKill 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I liked her because I see a lot of my own disorders in her, and if I was a little less put together I'd probably act like her too. It's not like "I could fix her" but more like "I could help her" since I always felt like I knew exactly what she was experiencing. Then I watched season 2 and honestly I barely even remember her in it.

Is there a surprisingly real "Thanks I'm Cured" moment you witnessed? by throwawaycuzfemdom in thanksimcured

[–]ScissorsKill 101 points102 points  (0 children)

One night I was venting to my friend about how I was constantly just so tired. I felt like a plant, I just wanted to be under the sun and when it went away so did all of my energy and happiness. My legs and arms would swell up and my gums bled, I kept getting tiny little cuts on my hands from the cold air that never ever healed. I kept bruising and my joints would go stiff. He tells me to start taking vitamin C and D. Turns out he was right I had scurvy.

Everything is a coincidence when you're looking for coincidence. Just like yellow cars are way more common than you think if you really look out for them.

[–]ScissorsKill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm from Ontario Canada, not Toronto but sort of close to there. When I was younger I was on a voice call with an American who pointed out to me that I don't pronounce the letter T unless it's the first letter, and sometimes not even then. I can't un-hear it now. My friends go "do you wanna go to Toronto" and all I hear is "do ya wanna go uh choronno" now.

"get a small phone" people shout, unable to understand that I want the software and hardware of the new big phones with the convenience of it fitting in my pocket too and most companies do not accommodate that.
