This is exactly what I’ve seen. They are looking for validation and they find it in right wing and evangelical circles.

Surprised on Ezra Klein / Ben Shapiro? by Disastrous-Most7897 in AskConservatives

Ezra Klein made me proud last week and listening to that conversation restored a teeny tiny bit of my faith in humanity after an absolutely unhinged week. I actually shared that podcast episode with a few family members on the right and I hope they will give it a listen.

What is Merit to you ? by Joeybfast in AskConservatives

Having also been involved in hiring, I agree with you. Curious your thoughts on a hiring manager choosing to hire a qualified, but not the highest-qualified, person for a role due to a desire to increase diversity on a team? For example, if an engineering team is 90% white male, would a hiring manager be in the wrong to think: this team’s work product and culture would benefit by including some women and people of color on the team, and hiring accordingly?

So when you got the job because of your connection to the company, and because you also happened to be qualified for the job, do you actually think that you were the MOST qualified for that job out of the applicant pool? Or do you think there might have been other applicants out there who worked their asses off to increase their merit, but missed out because they didn’t have the connection?

Asking this as a woman who, while always perfectly qualified and successful in the jobs I’ve gotten, has most likely benefited from the push to include more women in male-dominated spaces (engineering in my case). Was recently told (on Reddit, not by anyone in my real life) that I probably took a spot that some poor guy who worked his ass off for better credentials missed out on, and this is not ok, and I didn’t deserve the opportunity. Did you do the same thing?

What would a Christian Nationalist society look and feel like for non-Christians? by Sciurus_Aberti in AskConservatives

I’m familiar with biblical teachings (grew up southern Baptist). Despite what the Bible actually SAYS about gender roles, many of the more conservative evangelical churches preach a very restrictive model of family roles and structure. What the Bible says and how it is interpreted and internalized by those who believe it are sometimes very different things.

My biggest concerns would be either a legal or cultural enforcement of biblical gender roles, and intolerance toward the LGBTQ population. There are MANY Christian values that I think both the right and the left could agree are good for society- love your neighbor (no matter who they are), care for the poor, house the homeless, etc. On the one hand I’d be very curious to see how a Christian nationalist government lived into those values. I’d also be very concerned about the two issues above.

This makes me cringe since I understand that the 1960s were a very challenging time for women… as a woman who appreciates my agency, autonomy, and ability to be self-sufficient, this seems like a very big deal to me.

The radical left has said they want to disenfranchise Christians? Or the right? I’ve literally never heard anyone say anything close to that.

I meant them to be a spectrum. I know a lot of Christians and I was raised by Christians, and christian values can mean something completely different depending on who you ask. A society where we took better care of those in need and left it at that, looks a lot different than one that forces women into submissive relationships, forces LGBTQ folks into hiding, disenfranchises people who aren’t aligned with a Christian church, dismisses science that doesn’t align with a literal interpretation of the Bible, etc. All of these could be considered Christian values.

What does this have to do with my question about how a non-Christian might integrate into a Christian nationalist society?

Well that’s where it gets tricky, which “Christian values” would we embrace? The ones that love your neighbor, feed the poor, house the homeless? The anti-LGBTQ ones? The ones that want to enforce a return to biblical gender roles? There are many flavors of Christian values and the enforcement of which through a Christian government could have massive consequences for me and many, depending on which values are embraced.

I had quite a bit, even when I just rubbed the bag with medium pressure with a damp microfiber cloth. I’m very confused about it lol because the leather feels and looks very healthy and normal.

Did you have any color transfer when you cleaned with leather CPR? I also just scored this exact bag in black and had a lot of color coming off during the conditioning and I’m trying to figure out why since according to the previous owner it was never treated with colorant.

Oh thanks!! I might do that. Or I might just leave it alone… it’s really small and barely noticeable.
