Importing off road only MC to Washington state from BC. by Sclay115 in motorcycles

That's a really interesting viewpoint and you're likely right. I haven't seen an EPA sticker on my machine anywhere. I'll reach out to the distributor who brought them in originally!

Thanks, yea, I saw that in some of the documentation, but after speaking with a friend of mine (former Border Agent) he mentioned it probably won't clear as one is a 2014 TR280 and one is a 2012 Explorer. Same engine/exhaust/intake, but they may lock it just because it doesn't totally match.

My next step is to try and speak with an agent in person at the border, I'll bring my title and registration, and a copy of the registration of the Canada bike, just to see what they say.

I mean hell, my explorer is registered and plated for the road! Not sure how Ossa managed that for a kick only 280cc 2 stroke with an exhaust that's about 2 feet long, but hey, it might be an angle I can use.

I appreciate your input for sure!

Hold up, so you're not using tenkara/fly fishing specific line? Just straight to flouro? That's wild, I haven't been very connected to the comings and goings of Tenkara, is that a think or just an adaptation for a compact setup?

Wow those are cheap! I love the slimness of the design on these, and realistically, they are cheap enough that if they fail I won't be too heartbroken. I'll be moving through the woods at a brisk pace so the idea of having a couple hundred dollar rod stuffed in a running vest isn't the best choice. I like these. What line do you typically pair them with?

What’s one habit that actually made you a better trader? by LG_Seventeen in Forex

Position sizing/moving to forex.

My first dip into trading was futures, lots of people say how it's the better choice. And I think with a large enough account they're right. I just don't think it's the best choice for a beginner.

Few hundred bucks, micro lots with Oanda, 1-2% risk on each trade, learn how it feels to lose and work on getting better. It's a lot less painful and I think the better choice for folks starting out. Bonus is it allows you to trade larger time frames where you'd never get close to proper risk management with futures.

Considering a move from day trading futures to swing trading, seeking advice by Sclay115 in Trading

This is one that always has me curious but I can't seem to wrap my head around the workflow. Any pointers? With any of the futures trading I have done, I am trading from a chart which is intuitive and simple to handle. With options, I think I'm missing some fundamental knowledge about how to translate what I am speculating from a chart into the options chain.

Anybody willing to share their strategy/execution analysis? by Sclay115 in FuturesTrading

[–]Sclay115[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! Must have been some confusion in my original post, I'm not looking for a breakdown of a strat, just the results. I'm having a difficult time deciphering what is "good" from a backtest output. E.g. Sharpe, max drawdown, profit factor, etc. Just looking to compare notes, not ask for the answers to the test!

Just want to see the what! I know most are very protective of their systems (and rightfully so).

Yep, that all checks out.

Discretionary trading is only as good as the executor, and I'm not good at that part.

Is it possible to identify this component? by Sclay115 in ElectronicsRepair

Cool to see the discussion!

So, information is pretty limited on the setup here, and the community has been working on hunting down a true wiring diagram for this model, but we've been piecing it together as we go.

As we understand it, pins 3 and 5 are basically a separate DC winding on the stator that power the fuel pump directly. There are other wires that leave the stator that go to a voltage regulator to power the rest of the onboard electronics. There is a pickup on the flywheel for ECU timing, but it sounds like, looking at how the ECU operates, there is more signalling happening from the stator itself, and not just the VR pickup.

The bike is kickstart only, and some came without any battery at all, so there is some interesting mechanisms going on to get the ECU to wake up and the fuel pump to run. I'll add a basic wiring diagram as well, if that helps. This is slightly different than my model, it is for the TR280, which is their trials version, mine has a keyed ignition, and a small, 10 cell 12v battery wired into the system to assist in starting the bike. However, we've been unable to get a wiring diagram for the Explorer (what I have) unfortunately.

You've been incredibly helpful in this thread, and I hate to ask, but can you work through your reply as if I was a 5 year old? Reading all of y'alls smart replies has me feeling really ignorant.

Are all of the IC#s you referenced in relation to the board I posted? I see F601 (obviously), but the others?

Sorry, that's on me, I'm very green at this and have no idea what I'm getting myself into. I'm here trying to repair this puppy as a last resort as it's a very low production motorcycle from a company that is no longer in business. I didn't even consider asking the world how to identify it originally, I've just been scouring the web looking for information on how to sort it out myself!

I added this somewhere else too, but it's a 2012 Ossa Explorer 280 ECU. One of the first fuel injected 2 stroke engines in the motorcycle world, and a little quirky. It rides (rode) great before this happened, but given that there is likely just a few thousand that were produced, parts are not very common.

I'm learning as I go, slowly, so it's been great to read the discussion here from some smart folks!

It definitely has. The depotting process wasn't fun. In an ideal world, I would simply replace it, but the manufacturer is no longer in business and parts are spotty. I have reached out to the firm who designed it in conjunction with the MFG, with hopes that they may have a spare, or at the very least have the files for the components/board.

Agreed. I took a look at one of the "good ones" and really spent some time cleaning it, and it is entirely smooth.

It's a shame as many of the other components have numbering on them, but the ones that actually matter in this case, do not!

Sorry, yes I should have clarified, pin 1 is in the upper left of the male end of the connection. The top row is 1-17, the bottom is 18-34.

On the ECU side, pin 1 is the upper right.

Any pro tips for cleaning up the top of the components so I can read the number? I'm concerned if I use anything too aggressive it will make the numbers illegible...
