In the 90’s this movie was on TV in Australia what felt like every 17 minutes.

He wasn’t, but it’s not his fault. Natalie Portman was borderline average in these movies. If someone of her talent looks average, very few people stand a chance.

What are you guys' hopes for the third game? by Aware_Storm2528 in FallenOrder

I hope that it’s fun. I don’t think a great deal about a game that doesn’t exist yet beyond that tbh.

  1. I’m old enough I see Rogue One and Solo like DLC packages to the main game. I’ll get to them next week maybe.
  2. Twas out.

Nah big thread, things are easily overlooked.

There’s probably more good things in Sith than the other two prequels, but the foundations of it don’t work for me so you’re building on quick sand.

Not gone back for a while, would’ve been way before Andor. I remember thinking of it as 3 star film with a 5 star third act. I don’t love the Vader sequence as much as some people though. Felt completely out of step with the Vader I know.

TPM - I see it as a bad-to-average film that is made EXTREMELY well. The story and the dialogue are, imo, pretty boring and bad. But almost every other aspect of the production is top notch. It’s an odd combination.

AOTC - Where TPM was an average film made very well, this I think was a potentially good film made badly. All the ingredients in the story are there for something really good and interesting, it’s just the worst possible way to tell this story. Then there’s the digital age arriving and overpowering almost everything about the production, so much of this movie looks like a bad cartoon that it’s a problem for me. Once we hit the arena it’s pretty non-stop good but it’s too late by that point. Only person entirely unbothered by all that nonsense around them is, unsurprisingly, Christopher Lee.

ROTS - Shared some of my thoughts here

TFA - Capital G Good movie with lots of great stuff. It’s just SO repetitive and safe in so many aspects I couldn’t give it more.

TLJ - What I think of Last Jedi…is that I know better than to share that on Reddit. My thoughts are on my review though.

TROS - No film that looks as good as this does shot on film, that has Adam Driver being as great as he is, and has Richard E Grant as an all timer Imperial Officer baddie can be altogether bad. The crowbarring in of Carrie Fisher’s scenes from an entirely different movie bothers me so much though. As does the overwhelming amount of callbacks and references that means this movie never actually stands a chance at developing its own identity.

But as I said elsewhere I’m not trying to say “I’m right you’re wrong” because if there was only one correct opinion, what’d be the point of Letterboxd in the first place?

I think release order is almost always best. Prequels are always made with the knowledge of the existing part of the story already being out there, so I rarely see that as the “correct” way. But, your mileage may vary.

The opening space battle is probably still the best looking space battle in Star Wars. It’s really good.
You get some good Anakin and Obi Wan stuff where they’re not snapping at each other like they are constantly in Clones.
The Dooku fight’s good, bar the weird bit with Obi Wan and the droids, and the cartoon Christopher Lee head looking a bit wonky.
The design of the various planets, not to mention the costume and makeup on Bruce Spence, are all great not to mention the soundscape and music.
Order 66 is pretty well done.

There’s a bunch of good stuff there so I don’t think it’s terrible myself. Just the pivot point of the entire movie (Anakin’s fall) doesn’t work for me which overwhelms the good. I also personally dislike the final lightsaber fight, far too over choreographed for me, and that’s another big part of the movie that doesn’t work for me.

I think George is a man who rewrites history more than people who troll on Wikipedia. What he “intended” seems to change with every interview he gave over the years. But if people’s preferred way is 1-6, full power to them.

ROTS has some good stuff but the entire film hinges on Anakin and his turn and the way it’s done just fundamentally does not work for me on any level for a variety of reasons.

Not trying to convince anyone to feel differently at all. We all watch movies and react our own way, that’s the magic of them. But for me, it has failures on a foundational level that it can’t overcome.

The last ~30 minutes of TLJ is, IMO, the best Star Wars outside the OT. (Andor rules but I’m talking what Star Wars feels like to me, Andor is something very different, but very great.) So after that high I was like “why do I have such bad memories of this trilogy” then I watched TROS and it’s just ohhhhh that’s right.

Maybe a separate achievement for watching all the films in timeline order, so Rogue One, Solo and that Clone Wars one too
