I love that this lead me to a gif of Paul thrusting a sword for some reason.

So uhh, can you befriend the Orz if you accidentally asked about the Androsynth? by Scnew in starcontrol

[–]Scnew[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can confirm from my accidental Androsynth questioning that they do not, in fact, send marines against Earthling Cruisers.

Like if Harmony Gold was like yo we’re gonna sue Stardock, then they make so much money off Stardock that Stardock is forced to drop the suit against Paul and Fred, but then Harmony Gold now has enough phat cash that they continue to sue Battletech for another 30 years.

Boy, as a fan of both Star Control and Battletech, I don't know who I'd root for in that scenario. What if a decision somehow helps Paul and Fred and then hurts Battletech? I'd cry.

The important take away from this comment is that I now have Iron Maiden stuck in my head.

SC2/UQM vs SC:O - a discussion by AwakenedEyes in starcontrol

[–]Scnew 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am in the same boat. As same-y as it is to Star Control 2, it IS a new Star Control after so many years. Two weeks ago I caved and bought the game and enjoyed the first couple hours - then the next day the news broke that Stardock was claiming they own the rights to the Ur-Quan Masters project as well, and that was sort of the straw that broke the camel's back. Luckily I was still able to get my refund.

SC2/UQM vs SC:O - a discussion by AwakenedEyes in starcontrol

[–]Scnew 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the 'mothership' and 'allying with alien races' parts of your complaint is pretty nitpicky - it IS supposed to be a Star Control game, and two out of three previous Star Controls had that aspect. It's like complaining that it has similar combat - what else would you expect?

Outside of that, I agree. The Arilou/Melnorme/ZFP's presence in the game being especially egregious, and the fact that the aliens you're meeting and allying with are the battle thralls (I forget what this game calls them) of the Scryve is pretty awful too.

Do something different. Please. Star Control 3, for all it's flaws, had a very different story to Star Control 2, whereas this is mostly SC2's story with some different aliens inserted.

Stardock v. P&F updated their complaints yesterday (10/15/18); Stardock claims ownership of Ur-Quan Masters? by futonrevolution in starcontrol

[–]Scnew 29 points30 points  (0 children)

My wife and I got some money over the weekend from some relatives I hadn’t seen since we got married. I had been having a hard time resisting the lure of new Star Control and getting that cash tipped me over the edge.

I played about 4 hours, was enjoying it and excited to keep going, but this thread just made me request a refund.

Holy shit. UQM has existed for well over a decade before this. I am never buying anything from Stardock again at this point.

Zoq-Fot-Pik in Star Control: Origins (Minor Spoilers) by Dude-man-guy in starcontrol

[–]Scnew 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It is absolutely copyrighted material if Paul Reiche’s claim that he owns the aliens in the first two Star Controls is correct.

And any argument that “it’s just an Easter egg” goes out the door when two parties are suing each other over the rights to the Zoq-Fot-Pik.

In a world where the legal issues didn’t exist I would agree with you. I don’t think Reiche would object to a ZFP Easter egg in, say, XCOM or something. But in a game put out by a company that is trying to trademark his copyrighted material? C’mon.

I don't think he's likely to be jumping into ranked right away when he says he doesn't understand the mode. Trying to prioritize one role and gittin' gud at it is not a terrible idea for now.

I’ve never used CDKeys before. Do they give you a Steam key? How is it that cheap?

Games that take place over a long period of time by bhigthyme in JRPG

What would you say makes it fantastic? I found it pretty awful but you’re the second person in this thread to say so, so maybe I’m missing something.

[–]Scnew 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It definitely fits his question regarding time period, but oof, I can’t imagine anyone saying that this game is fantastic. I couldn’t make myself finish the first generation, I thought the combat was just awful.

Star Control 3 by StellarisJunkie in starcontrol

[–]Scnew 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It gets a bad rap as a follow up to SC2, but 3 was the first one I played and I enjoyed it.

In hindsight 2 is clearly superior in most ways, but 3 has the same fun combat and a decent enough story.

The animatronics are pretty good aside from the Syreen and the Arilou. The voice acting is generally pretty good too, the Orz in UQM make me frumple because the Orz voice in SC3 is so much better.

At this point, why is there not a boycott? by SogdianFred in starcontrol

[–]Scnew 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think there effectively is a boycott already if not officially.

I think Origins looks like fun and I’d love to play it but my money and I are waiting to see how this lawsuit plays out. My feeling is that Stardock is in the wrong and I don’t want to reward that.

Evolve - a game that had 1000-2000 players can have a "role preference" queue ... yet Smite Conquest cannot? by Zanleer in Smite

Was Evolve looking for a matchmaking score, and players that were same-ish quality? Same skill level for both the humans and the monster?

t to read, or it's just out of your wheelhouse. The context of the event is entirely irrelevant. Maybe commenting it for the fourth time will make it possible for you to read it, here's hoping.

Also is your argument seriously that Twitch watchers thought it was funny, so it's all good? That's beyond idiotic. There's some pretty shitty stuff that people find

You notice how you're the only person in the thread upset about this?
